  1. Really appreciate 1st jump course being offered at BD. This event tends to attract 1st time jumpers from that area. My personal feeling is this is a horrible place to learn to BASE at. Sketchy exit, big trees, railroad tracks, fast water, big boulders and an under the gun short window. It's not that much more to travel out to your neighborhood and do it right at the ONLY bridge that invites BASE jumpers without exploiting them. Just my .02 worth....
  2. I use Precision and Icarus mains. They dont eliminate the problem. Yeah thos other things are annoying but, I don't see as much of a ready solution as simply putting magnets in place of the snaps. It's not like they haven't already done something like this before.
  3. Is it me or do the snaps for the toggles and harnesses always come off and fall apart? Bill isdaMan and it seems a no brainer to put magnets on these and eliminate those pieces of crap. Bill? Mark?
  4. After briefing the student on where to sit in the plane, he proceeded to sit on the step for the ride to altitude. I suggested he might like to join us inside the plane
  5. I sure like that! I'm looking at a 61 182 with a 550 in it. Being told those numbers by him also. I'll be taking a look at it later this week. I run a smal DZ and most of the time a single tandem is in it. Shude be a short ride in the future.
  6. I agree with re-configuring and selling it. Way too nice of a bird for skydive operation. Great cruiser, just the wrong airframe for this appilication. I've seen several places try to make 206's work, Some with more success than other's. I'm not a fan of them. Narrow body, P Ponk or 550 with the mods. Give me a rocket ride up, I don't care if it's a bit cramped. Customers only know the difference between a turbine and piston plane. Depending on who they are, it was either a big plane or a tiny
  7. 1975 Cessna 182 with a Texas skyways 520 conversion. 3 bladed Macauley prop. Heavy bird. Interior has been stripped out but dash is full of GPS, Radios, Autopilot and an older weather radar. Heavy elevator (widebody) so quite a bit of trim to keep the pilot from doing a 20 min curl. Have experimented around with different speeds with little success. 500 initial and falls off fast. 3300' elevation and 80 degree day. Stops climbing at 10000MSL. Drops like a rock when ya pull power back. I have more experience with straight tails but, I was expecting much better performance. This thing is like a top fuel dragster down the runway. Any suggestions?
  8. Best way to preserve the elastic in the BOC is to store the PC under the main flap. Leaving it in the BOC just stretches it out and over time the elastic breaks down. This will extend its life 20x or more
  9. This whole situation has a familiar bad smell to it. An EXTREMELY unusual set of circumstances. A couple that traveled across the world to a strange land to work in an assisted living workplace only to turn around and shoot innocent, handicapped folks. Witnesses claimed they saw 3 heavily protected men, not some Arab clad small woman and a man. These people were gunned down and conveniently cannot say their side of the story. They left behind 2 small children. Now almost 3 months later, 1 of many alphabet criminal organizations from the government suddenly wants to subpoena a Corporation to give what can only be seen as unlimited access to ANYONE'S private info for who whatever reasons they wish. Let's say Apple folds, they get this done for "National Security" reasons, what possible info on this phone could there be? Anyone/thing they may discover will be long gone and whatever plans may have been on there will be abandoned. Sure smells like another government attempt to weaken the 4th amendment by digging up something from the late 1800"s.
  10. Ralph says he has the STC for the P model. He doesn't. I found this out after I bought it from him, installed it, then tried to get it exported. The DAR spent 3 days searching but discovered the STC was pending. Probably wouldn't have found this any other way and we mite have gotten it into operations with no problems had he not looked so close. Ralph knows it's only pending and isn't returning my calls. Avoid my headaches and skip this guy.
  11. Some really amazing footage of the wingsuit scene but, the rest of the movie and the story line could have sure used some improvement. Doubtful this will be as much of an asset to the skydive community as the original did.
  12. Your assumption is wrong. Yeah , I disagree with why the US is involved in the middle east And whether it's a conspiracy is a seperate issue. I thought this organization was slippery and it turned out to be so. Rather than directing an incorrect personal attack against someone, you might want to just look at the facts If you can.....
  13. Suggested that. The DAR said I would have to remove the hinge replace the frame where the holes are and get it signed off. Can just imagine what that wude cost. Totally ridiculous. Guy is being a total ass about it.
  14. If the VA is doing such a stellar job of meeting all the vets needs, why does Wounded Warriors even need to exist? Yeah, it bothers me when folks that are asked to sacrifice so much are then neglected. I think it's unfair and another example of how far away we as a country and as human beings have gotten. Rather than a company like Halliburton contribute some of the money they made on this continuing conflict to solve this issue, you and I are being asked to do so. Maybe it's just me but, that sits sideways with me.......
  15. As I suspected. The only part of my post that you see is an assumption that I choose not to contribute. Just curious, as to how you came to that conclusion? I never mentioned that. What my point is (or attempt at) is who should be doing the majority of it here. I feel that these folks need all the assistance they need. Rather than address the fact that it shouldn't have happened at all, you choose to accuse me of not wanting them to get the help they need. This is an enabling attitude. By failing to understand who is really responsible for this, you allow the continuation of our so-called leaders to continue to send people that deserve better into situations they should never be in. Perhaps instead of blindly making an incorrect assumption here, you might want to get a few facts straight 1st.
  16. I fully expect that this will get mixed responses. I'm hoping the message I'm trying to convey will be clear. I find it interesting when a certain country singer comes on the tube (singing "Pray for Peace...") asking for contributions to this organization. There's no doubt that these people have suffered incredible injuries and their lives are changed forever and can use all the help they need. Where I have a problem is, who should be contributing. I (like many) believe that America and the world were totally misled on why we even were in these places and allowing these folks to be put in harm's way. Halliburton and many other large corporations were the real winners in that war, The VA is a joke and the minute the promise of the benefits they were promised are needed, they disappear. Just incomprehensible IMO. Now this guy comes out begging for the American public is to pick up the tab. Am I the only 1 that feels this is wrong?
  17. I've been trying to reach Ralph Hatley without success. I bought what I thought was an STC jump door from him. The plane is slated for export and my DAR found that the door is NOT STC'd for a P model. He told me it's pending approval. Funny how he didn't mention that when I bought it. Probably any other time, this wouldn't matter. I need the export cert to get this outta the country. Of course the DAR had to search for 3 days to discover this. I realize it's all my fault that I didn't research it a bit more but, I trusted Ralph and he mislead me. Anybody got a different number besides the call ralph?
  18. Pretty sure this is Jeffro P. Cool stuff http://nvda.ly/UGP8P
  19. Another sad situation where they were tolerated and never welcome. I was there a few years ago and it was a bit tense with management then. These guys had struggled to make this work thru quite a few ups and downs. The demographics were there but, the airport never wanted them there and just waited for the right excuse to throw them out. I never witnessed any safety issues when I was there, Of course, perception can always be relative.....
  20. Just a note on what is going on at this event this year. As some of you may have heard, The person who has been in charge of organizing BD for the last decade has decided to opt out this after the RIDICULOUS actions of the BD commission and local LEO's. If anyone is planning to attend, you may want to do a bit of research into the current organizers background. http://www.basejumper.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2982046;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread has a discussion on the subject. Worth a look before making the trip.
  21. What's with these Cocksuckers? I have often said prisoners have more freedoms than DZ employees. This proves it once again. Any DZO that has an ad for help year after year, is a big red flag, LISC has an ad every year. Often mid season......
  22. Thanks for the replies. These are all opinions and I was really looking for some info on a real operation. With a full load of fuel (720#'s), 2 people it climbs at about 1200FPM to FL 6K. started to fall off after that. Yeah, it's a more complicated bird with the gear, engines etc. but, it seems for just a tandem operation it could work. Thanks
  23. Does anyone have/know of any DZ's operating this aircraft? The opening is a bit weird but its cleared to operate without the doors on from the factory.
  24. Skydive West Texas is open. 309-453-8259
