  1. Mine was a nickname given to me in college. It started out as 'Toothpick', but got shortened to just 'Pick' soon after and it stuck all through college. Since I couldn't think of anything creative when I registered, 'Pick' seemed to be as good as any.
  2. I worry about deer at half that....on four wheels...in the woods. I don't even want to consider one at 120....... http://www.hindsightunlimited.com/db2/00178/hindsightunlimited.com/_uimages/Turn4-2.JPG I like slingin' dirt....or mud....or my back yard.....
  3. and all this time I thought they were just ticked off because we wouldn't play Free Bird... Seriously, I saw it as I read it.......that's a talent.
  4. Did it start life as a ZRX1200 (I assume)?! I generally stick to four wheels.......but that looks like large fun!
  5. I got my private ticket in 1985 before I graduated from high school. I passed my instrument ground school and written test a year later, then failed my Class 2 medical and quit flying altogether because I couldn't afford it as a hobby if I had no hope of doing it as a profession. I started flying again last father's day.......then decided to jump last November. (I'm waiting for warmer weather to start AFF.)

    I'm a criminal

First of all, I'd make them provide me with "the booklet" they reference.......ask a neighbor if they were given the list of covenants when they moved in.......in my case, the subdivision didn't uphold its end of the bargain for "phase 1" (no sidewalks, streetlights, county water, etc. ad nauseum.) so all bets were off. (county ordinances were still very much in effect though!) You said it is a new subdivision, and the HOA isn't made up of actual homeowners yet, right? It sounds like the developer is trying to pass off a "pristine environment" right up until he makes his money and moves on.......he's trying to make every "property" a model home......for now. The architectural review committee is probably made up of the developer, his secretary, and his less-than-tolerant wife that wants the higher limits on her credit cards her husband promised her she'd get when he started this subdivision. "Architecture" is typicaly permanent or at least semi-permanent.........a portable basketball goal doesn't seem to fall in that category, especially if you do move it around. Lay it on its back and put it in the garage for one night. (it is temporary storage, right?) As an example, the county ordinance said that my racecar and trailer had to be on a "prepared surface"......asphalt, concrete, or gravel......they didn't count on the trailer being parked on top of 4 bags of gravel "prepared" for the occasion. Then, allot like AggieDave's suggestion, they didn't count on my racecar being decorated with Christmas lights and parked in the front yard for the holidays one year either. (my neighbors ignore me now........I don't know why.) I know it can get serious...and I can't even begin to tell you how idiotic I think MOST of it is. Yes, there are legitimate issues.......but a basketball hoop isn't one of them. I hope it works out for you! I should probably add a disclaimer that "your results may vary" if you try any of the stuff I've gotten away with.

    Unbelievable?

My current flight instructor considers log books to be some of the most prolific works of fiction ever produced in quantity. If you desperately feel the need to tell us about it, chances are good that some of us won't be overly impressed. Sorry. I hate it for ya. They might not be laughing with you.......they may very well be laughing AT you........ Lying? maybe, then again, maybe not. I don't know them nor do I know you, so I have nothing to gain either way. It's just a thought.........or a collection of thoughts........I'm a one-jump-wonder........take it for what it's worth.

    Unbelievable?

Exactly where did politics enter the talent/ability/wing-loading/AFF progression formula? Perhaps I'm confused.
  10. I liked the 200 even......but the 319.8 works too.......I guess.
  11. Fling.......it's allot like flying, except it requires much less skill, concentration, talent, etc. It requires a bit more in the way of luck though.....
  12. "Pick" seems like a good name......or not. I like Miranda.
  13. My first car was a '71 Dart and a '72 Duster that both donated enough parts to make one car that was semi-road-worthy. The end-result resembled a dark green Duster with slant 6 "power". (I still despise green cars......)

    Skyhook 5

A friend of mine got a "silk ride" when the engine quit in his Flightstar ultralight over dense trees......his BRS saved him from certain injury and even limited the damage to the airplane to remarkably repairable. Bottom line: They work. There are a few other vendors out there that use other means of chute extraction, but BRS is still the most popular........and to my knowledge is the only one STC'd for use in certified aircraft.
  15. I've changed careers or career paths involuntarily a few times now......I'm currently a machinist again.......after being a wanna be airline pilot, then I kicked tires and pumped gas on fighter jets, then became a machinist, then a tool maker, then a tooling designer (it's like being an architect or an engineer, except my designs actually work) , then a project manager.......now I'm "just a machinist" again, and flying again for fun. In a perfect world, I'd be designing, building, and flying the "perfect" airplane........and making mass quantities of money in the process.
  16. So it's OK to use a broad stroke to trash "us" here? (hint: most flight crews are union.......not to be contradictory or anything.) I asked for a PM with specifics........do you want it fixed or do you simply have a desire to complain?
  17. Gee.......I'm glad I'm not an airline employee........oh, wait......I still am....THANK GOD! I know a few hard-working folks (even veterans) that aren't anymore. Yes, I do also fly as a passenger, and I think I know what you probably meant........I think. PM me with specifics. At the moment, you've lumped me, as an airline employee, into a group with terrorists.....THANKS! I'll try to refrain from personal attacks at this point. PERIOD.
  18. Before the department cuts a year ago I was designing tooling and ground equipment for an airline, now I'm back on the floor as a machinist again.
  19. Racing is a funny thing.....ill-handling cars TRYING to go fast on the edge can be more of an adrenaline pump than well set-up cars going twice as fast yet nowhere near "the edge". I was buzzing ALLOT more after my first short-track race than I was after driving around Nashville Speedway at 155 in a pseudo-Indy car the first time......even though my first lap at Nashville was faster than I'd ever driven anything, anywhere.....it felt "too easy" after being used to hustling a car sideways through every turn, every lap. I picture a tandem being much the same way....it doesn't feel like you're anywhere near the edge (except when you are in the door, I guess....) .....yes, I LOVED my tandem jump just like I loved driving 101 at Nashville........but I can also see how he might not have been as blown away by his tandem jump as most folks. My TM gave me as much control of the jump as he possibly could, so that helped me feel some level pressure that added to the rush........if it was JUST a ride, I might not have been too thrilled either. I didn't figure he'd let me scare him, but I figured he'd let me get into enough trouble to scare ME if I didn't do it right......the added pressure added to the experience for me.......I WANT to see what AFF feels like.......maybe I'm hoping it is more like short-track racing? I dunno if that helps.....it's just me.
  20. Exactly what market is this? The "not a truck, not an SUV and not a Subaru Brat" market? It's a vehicle for people that can't make up their mind what they really want, so they opt for something does a little bit of everything, yet does nothing very well. Just my opinion.
  21. I get a bunch of stuff about some guy that played basketball for UK. (the University of Kentucky) http://www.ukfans.net/jps/uk/Statistics/Players/Harden_Roger.html edited to explain "UK"........for whatever reason.
  22. On the road.......I'm on the way to work, in a not-so-special '93 Dodge Dakota 4X4 (in '95 or so)(yes it had a 318, and yes it was "messaged".) I wasn't especially late, and wasn't really going THAT fast.......as I approach the light following a POS baby-blue Mercury Topaz, the light turned yellow and the lady driving it STOOD on the brakes.........I did the same when I saw brakelights and it must have stood the Dakota on its nose. (judging from the damage.......) As it ended up, I still punted the Topaz through the light and ALMOST completely accross the intersection. (I was stopped well short of it though.) (the Topaz had no trunk......and I had a pretty mangled grille, AC condenser, bumper, and hood.) Either fortunately or unfortunately.......I'm still not sure which........a county deputy was sitting in the left turn lane (yes, in a marked car) and saw it all happen right before his eyes. He flipped on the lights and barely stood up out of his car to ask if I was OK. As I shook my head and somehow eeked out the words "I'm fine" he said "if you can drive it, park it over there." I parked the truck and walked back to check on the Topaz.......while the deputy was TRYING to communicate with the driver that we really needed to get the car out of the intersection. She spoke very little English, but seemed to understand at least some.....and was obviously more than a bit freaked out by the situation. (obviously) As it turned out, the deputy got her out of the POS and he and I pushed the car in behind my truck. When the smoke cleared and her wrecker left.......the deputy finally had the time to talk to me. He began with an apology?! Then said "you know I don't have much choice, right?.......I have to cite you for following to closely." (as he shook his head) I signed the ticket.......he thanked me for my help......and I drove on to work. (it didn't get the radiator or any other vital organs.) Rear-ending a car at a stop light is usually BAD.......in this case I think I actually got lucky that the cop saw it happen! (you asked.......) On the track.......I'll just say that I KNOW what those blueish-purple stiripes on your shoulders feel like.
  23. "Look!!!.....the faceplate of our product can survive a skydive"?! Drop the whole thing at 4K and REALLY impress me.... (I may be cynical.)
  24. 'Since you aren't doing anything else, go get coffee.......you gotta stick to your strengths.......'
