  1. I don't see where the 206 with a 550 has operating costs any higher than a 182 with a 550. Purchase price may be a bit higher, but wide body 182's tend to be more expensive than the older narrow bodies. I don't know about 182 inflight door costs vs. the lexan roll up for the 206. I can't say I enjoy doing 3 tandems from a 206, but if you have the horses it is a cash machine for the DZ. The jump from 182 to a turbine is a big one. I would be very careful about that. We went from a 206 to a turbine and, while the staff loved it, the stress on the DZO was pretty apparent. The other issue is IAD/SL jumps. If you do them can you afford to keep the Cessna for that purpose. If you then try to keep the Cessna busy you tend to make your turbine less viable. P-punk (sic) modifies O-470s and TSIO-520s. Overall I think the key is what do you need it for? If your tandem business is growing I would buy the U206. If you are still primarily a FJC based DZ with a healthy fun jumper crowd probably another kick-ass 182 is better as almost every type of exit other than the tandem is easier from a 182. I see no scenario where a P206 is the better fit.
  2. The driver has no chance without the navigator's constant narrative.
  3. Chilli rellenos is actually made with a poblano pepper which is nowhere near as hot as a serrano. Serranos also tend to be much smaller although similar shape. So which did you mean?
  4. David Frum, former Bush staffer who has been on the outs with the party ever since he publicly opined that Sara Palin was too stupid to be a VP candidate, wrote this in today's National Post. It does a better job of making similar points to what Canuck and I were making.
  5. Getting back to CanuckInUSA's point about where the GOP goes from here I think that while the GOP can really make inroads in the hispanic community, they also need to work with the Muslims, the Hindus, the Sikhs, the Chinese and Korean Christians; how many Iranian, Syrian, Lebanese, Iraqi ex-pats and descendants of ex-pats vote in US elections? While the inner city is always a tough sell for conservative parties, the truth is the actual voters from these communities (not to mention very socially conservative Asians) tend to live in the sub-urban districts. This is the fastest growing demographic in the country and they tend to be quite conservative. Anti-crime messages are particularly resonant. Republicans don't need to change their lower taxes/smaller government stripes to appeal to these people, they need to recognize that these groups have middle class members with middle class values and these groups are the future. The Prime Minister of Canada visited a Sikh temple in India today for the second time in three years. Why? because several ridings (districts) in suburban Toronto and Vancouver are controlled by the Sikh vote, that's why. These ridings are not dominated by the fresh off the boat, non-eligible, low paid, trying to learn English types. They are dominated by, hard working, entrepreneurial, successful types who are worried about crime, taxes and (wait for it) the breakdown of traditional values affecting their children. These are naturally conservative voters; these are the future of the Conservative Party of Canada, of the Conservative party of UK, and if they get their shit together, the GOP.
  6. God the omnipresent can intercede in the past too. Maybe he'll change the election outcome retroactively if Ron prays hard enough. "OHH, SORRY ABOUT THAT RON, MY BAD. I'LL FIX THAT UP FOR YOU RIGHT AWAY. WELL ACTUALLY EARLIER THAN THAT, LOL."
  7. Prayer is man petitioning God to intercede in the universe as it is currently unfolding. God the omnipotent can do just that. However it is important to remember that God the Omniscient created Heaven and Earth knowing that it was going to unfold as it currently is. In short prayer is Man's way of questioning God's judgement.
  8. God answers all prayers. Sometimes his answer is "WTF Are you on glue?"
  9. Disagree. Insufficient data (one point). I remember the early years of the George Steinbrenner era; people loudly proclaimed that you couldn't just buy the world series with money. The truth is you can make it a necessary if not sufficient condition. You can bet the next election is not going to be prosecuted with less money. 10. Clinton will be 69 in four years. The system is designed for candidates who are prepared to be president for eight years. She is simply too old. I thought she was the better candidate four years ago and her performance at State only intensified my opinion, but her time has passed.
  11. Here's an idea, why not have a tax on everything and stop trying to influence the normal development of a free society. Oh wait Representative Paul already proposed that.
  12. We did that for one season with less than great results. The biggest problem we had was the D-bags hitting the students' left arm as they reached for the PC with their right. This was with a direct bag system and perhaps would work better with a PC assist system. Our clients (British military) suggested tat a higher strong point might help. We were using the co-pilot's left seatbelt point on a 206. We returned to an IAD and BOC PC system the next year with much better results. For practice pilot chute tosses we used a parapack covered foam dildo that had an ~12 inch bungee tail with a short stiffened piece at the end, and a regular PC handle on the other end. We had sewn an elastic holder type loop on the right leg strap and double wrapped the rubber around the stiffener. The dildo just hung harmlessly from the leg strap after the student tossed it, but the idea was that if there was ever an entanglement issue it would easily be pulled off (the theory was never tested). The only trouble we ever had was some gorilla threw it so hard once it came off and we lost one. Other than that they have worked for years.
  13. Well he seems to have made a mistake vis a vis the offset markings, but I don't think it is reasonable for him to be expected to have seen the vehicle. Hard to believe there isn't a yield, or even a stop sign. If there wasn't I think the pilot might be on the hook.
  14. The great thing about the EC is that it is possible that just over half the county can be pissed off.
  15. Does the distribution of the EC and the house reflect the most recent census?
  16. Well I did two tandems yesterday with participants of this game. One had a broad scarf we wrapped around the outside of her harness. Good thing we only needed stills as the camera flyer blew a wing and was spinning the whole jump as he lay on his back shooting up at the sign. The other just had a cardboard sign that she pulled out under canopy and I took handcam shots.
  17. This is an often used saw. It is however patently false. A modified T-10 has a forward speed of ~8 mph. I used to smoke jump with T-10s. During training it was made clear that landing more than 30m from the target was not an option. I used to select which tree I was going to snag the canopy on for a softer landing.
  18. Very little. No need for either candidate to pay attention to Cali - it's already locked up for Obama. Why put effort and money into a game that was won? The spend money on the swing states. Look at where the candidates are. Those are the states that can give the biggest bang for the buck. In a sense, that's fine. They are playing by the rules. Like the season analogy, when you've got home field through the playoffs locked up in week 14, you can rest your starters the next three games. Does attention on the campaign trail equate to attention governing? It is easy to forget sometimes that the point of the exercise is actually governance.
  19. I don't have a problem with guns. I do have a problem with 'the cult of guns.' Guns don't kill people, idiots who worship them do.
  20. True, but they could write on their hands in marker. I have seen that before.
  21. Really? The house is strictly rep by pop. I think that means there will be many more reps representing urban and sub-urban voters than rural ones. These 2000 numbers indicate almost 70% of people live in urban areas of 50,000 or more with most in communities of 200,00 or more. All indications are that concentration has increased since 2000. Although some senators will come from largely rural states, Alaska, Wyoming and Montana just aren't going to rule the day very often.
  22. It is just another example of how targeted deductions consistently miss their mark. The simplest taxes are the best.
  23. Clearly the non-voter stock is the largest group, but no one is going to raise the participation rate that much. So going into the final weekend which use of resources will be more effective?
