  1. Hey Ton, So you don't get your students to arch, to bring their arms out at 90 degrees, to steer the canopy after opening? Oh yes off course I tell them what to do during exit and freefall. Makes my job a little easier with a good passenger body shape. Hand at 90 degrees, no problem, that brings you in a more level fall position. I also correct the body position if I do not like the position of the legs and arms. Steer the canopy after opening? Only very few students/passengers want to do it. For me that is fine. Allow the student/passenger to assist in landing flare: !!!NEVER!!! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig
  2. While I agree with Mark, I think he may not have meant it that way . . . Quote I meant it like I wrote. When I ask an average passenger (or potential student) why they want to do a skydive. I mostly get an answer like "I always wanted to do this once, but I do not want to spend a complete day in the classroom" so they are not comming to a DZ with the idea of learning skydiving they only want a nice experience. Although you have some exceptions most tandemjumps are just expensive rollercoaster rides. If you really consider tandemguests as student I assume you do not allow any videoman in front of you that can distract the student from his learning process. Like the AFF student forgetting everything the moment he makes eye contact with the videoman. For your info, the DZ I jump does not offer something like Tandemprogression jumps. We have Tandem, static-line and AFF, no mixes of this. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig
  3. Have a little more than 500 tandems now. I do not know how much was male/female. I do not care. A passenger is a passenger. The only thinks I know out of my head: Age: from 10 till 80years Weight: from 40 till 110kg For the rest my head is filled with beer. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig
  4. If you do not notice the difference in performance before and after a reline you could have saved the reline. Why did you reline the canopy anyway? I felt a huge difference after a (microline) reline on my stiletto 107) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig
  5. here in europe (holland/germany) no video. Only the video recorded during the dive ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig
  6. Bacon, I do not really like the greasy pig-stuff. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig
  7. Yes succes with the rest of the course. How it the fit of the advance tandem. Seen one but never got the opportunity to jump one. The BT80 is a very nice tandemcanopy (no flare toggles required) but I have to warn you there are quite some mains on the market with a much higher toggle pressure. (EZ, Contrail..) Because the BT80 is rather responsive it is rathjer easy to steer the passenger sick. Remember: Save some energy for the FLARE. Good luck and HAVE FUN ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig
  8. BT60 is about 170 sqft BT is an old serie of main canopies made by parachute de france, (BT serie is no longer sold) BT serie is famous for the very hard openings if packed incorrect. Because of this I do not like this canopy, Except the BT80 tandemcanopy, which I like to fly. Advice: do not buy this canopy unless it is very, very, very cheap., but even than! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig
  9. If it's a bomb you can detonate it with a good hook. Just wondering, how much would the frontriser pressure be? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig

  11. 9 out of 15. Is that ok for a dutch redneck? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig
  12. You guys don't have to do any tandem terminal jumps to qualify? I couldn't find any reference in the IRM Essentials (sorry Ton, I have no idea what the Dutch/Germans do). In the UK, prospective Tandem Instructors are required to do four jumps (from a minimum of nine) where they do a combination of stable/unstable exits and turns, without and with an experienced skydiver on the front of them before deploying the drogue. See section 2c of Form 152 - Tandem Instructor Training Syllabus Sure you have to do a droqueless jump for qualification. I had to do a backloop and both left and right turn befor throwing the droque. Perhaps some TM think I'm old-fashioned, but: - I always go for a perfect exit. - The moment I throw the droque I know where the videoman is. - I even do a handle check every jump and a secondary pull every weekend - I do not jump old/worn out shit I'm only a freelance weekend TM who has done about 500Tandems, but I want to do a lot more that is why I want to rule out some risk-factors that are avoidable ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig
  13. I believe ALL tandem instructors ALWAYS use the drogue to gain stability. Try flying tandem terminal without one*. And dress for success? Invest the time in training and in the door to get their body position where you want it to be. Our friend Lisa really hasn't understood the significance of what we've asked her to do here. L. *No, don't, scratch that, don't do that, that's not advice, you know what I mean. What's the problem in flying a tandem to tandemterminal for some time. In the early days there were no droques only tandemterminal. To my opinion the droque's primary function is to slow you down. Aditional advantage is it stabelises you in freefall and can be used for opening the main. DRESS FOR SUCCES means buy yourself a suit with enough drag to your arms and legs. This gives you an aerodynamic advantage. With a suitable jumpsuit you make your job so much easier. Does not mean you do not have to spend time to "shape" the passenger in the door. But once out of the door you need your body to fly. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig
  14. 1) Every mechanic knows: Each moving joint or valve needs to be greased once in a while! 2) This medical statement comes from a medical university in bordeaux: One or 2 glasses of wine each day is very good for your blood system and heart Detail: Bordeaux is located in one of the best wine regions in france ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig

  16. Hmmm, can't say that it does happen to all of us.....THINK before you throw. Be safe. Ed Agree, nice stable exits, face to the prop and this is not likely to happen. At the moment I have about 500 tandems and uptill now I NEVER used my droque to gain stability!! This situation on the photo might develop to a side-spin! Another remark to this photo: DRESS FOR SUCCES!!! The one throwing the droque is the one trying to kill someone ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig
  17. Welcome, Be safe and of course HAVE FUN ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig
  18. You're sure about it. Read the manual/website please. Expected life!! No SCHEDULED mainenance. only maintenance on condition and of course battery cost!! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig
  19. But will last 8 more years - no? It is expected to last for 20 years! Like the rest of the tandemrig?? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig
  20. Traffic is dangarous. So I try to spend no more time on the road than absolutely required. Best way to do this is to drive as fast as possible. Well in germany there is no speed limit on some highways and in holland I do not care about speed limits (and red traffic lights) I always drive the speed I want to drive and I only get one or 2 tickets in a year (about 30euro each) so what! Brussels airport to helmond in 70 minutes is rather fast!! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig
  21. Just wondering, which tandemmaster still jumps 20year old 360-s when you have a couple of very nice tandemcanopies (US and/or european built) available nowaday. The DZ I jump uses very new equipment (well maintained also) If the DZ-owner lets me jump a 20year old 360 he can start advertising for another TM! Ok tandem is for me just weekend freelance job. I have a regular job during the week, so I'm not forced to jump for money. Jumping good well maintained equipment decreases one risk factor in skydiving dramatic, in each case during tandems. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig
  22. Not speed limits, but solving traffic jams will solve the polution problem. At 120Km/h my 3.0V6 mitsibishi sigma uses about 8km/liter At 170Km/h it's 6km/liter In a severe traffic jam it's 1km/liter So what is the problem here The 170km/hour is of course in germany. (Just in case some stupid dutch speed chasing police officer is reading this) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig
  23. Agree, worked once on a BT80 for me
  24. It may be a good question but you should turn off both units (Tandem Cypres and Vigil in Tandem mode) if the descent rate exceed the 78 mph. Robert WHY?? One of the manufacturers says it is ok to leave it on while decending. They even made an explicit advertising statement about this subject some years ago. I do not know why the other manufacturer says switch off in decent mode but they must have a good reason. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig
  25. Possibility one: You get sucked out the pit or The F1 goes airborne due to the interruption of the airflow between the car and the surface. Ok thank you you can send the new rig to me. (The price was a new rig wasn't it??) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig
