    Fatality: Swiss Valley

A big thank you Csaber to clarify. You and his family have my condolescences (I was in the valley that day, we all decided to stop jumping that day to think about him). Also thanks to the fellow jumpers staying in the valley that they didn't talk to any media. We (Swiss comunity) had the worst written article in the history of LB in the Swiss Press (BLICK, stating that the thing behind base is to pull as low as possible to get as much adrenalin as possible and more bullshit) and luckly for us, no baser was talking to them to make things worse. As was already the case in multiple accidents at LM, not depending on the level of experience (the wall doesn't change its shape with your experience level), one might think twice before doing multi-ways, arials, etc. at any spot... Stay safe! /t.
  5. And once again, don't call air glacier to ask which ones are legal or tolerated! People were jumping it this summer saying that Air Glaicier didn't say anything that it wasnt legal... Air Glacier do just control air traffic, that's all They don't: - give weather information - give wind condition - say which exit you shouldn't jump - say which field you should land on All you have to do is to jump with respect and a thing we call "menschenverstand" (michi, can you translate??), not all base tourists does have this Stay safe See ya soon, michi
  6. Treelines is possible from LM. Just with Trackjeanz ;-))

    Eiger conditions

Please, don't ask Air Glacier for any BASE relevat infos (conditions for eiger included), it's not their job.... They have already enough work to. For conditions, ask people who where there or who lives there. Check weather web sites, etc.... The best thing is: go have a look by yourself... all the best /t.
  8. Hello Everyone, Discussions are going and we are sure, they are for the good of all. The rules of the valley are well known and spread all over. These remain the same. One thing we would like to add since the sad easter weekend: when anything bad happens, DON'T TALK TO THE MEDIA, DON'T TALK TO THE MEDIA. DON'T TALK TO THE MEDIA!!! It is the rule of the police to inform the news agencies, not the one of the jumpers. I did multiple times the experience, that it is best not to speak to any of them. They will gather the news agencies reports and this will finish by a objective small report, which is best in those cases. The article printed in the BLICK (Swiss German sensation newspaper) is again reflecting us as sucidal crazy badass guys. take care /toni

    valley weather

Waterfall is closed. Period! (just to double 1007). Furthermore, please DO NOT CALL Air Glacier for BASE Jumping and condition information!!! CALL Air Glacier just before jumping. They have plenty other work to do, and are not responsible for ourselves. You can try to send emails or private messages to any of us "locals". We try to give our best to provide useful information. Thanks for your understanding, all the best /t.
  10. He James I worked there this weekend and next week. There is still a lot of snow at the exits. Currently it's very warm, so watch the snow-avalanches. For more, PM. seeya /toni
  11. Only one way to know: Jump it! Just open within the red circle. If you still doubt, jump again, until you're sure it'll pass or not. This is been done on several objects, the most I heard was up to 40 jumps prior to pass the underhanging parts. The least I did was 1 jump to know that it doesn't pass, it was obvious after the jump...
  12. Everyone is free to do what they want. Agree on this. So the paying course even take the ones noone is willing to show the activity.... Every paying customer... This is what I don't like. I do teach people for free, yes, but I don't take anyone with me I don't want. My "courses" take weeks and weeks (up to one year even) so I decide I want to be with this particular person (I never take more than one at a time!!). This is my opinion. I hope there will be never any BASE courses in my country at "our" spots! It will endager the spirit I (and many other here) see in it. Commercializing (and federalizing) doesn't make part of the my point of view of this game. All the best, toni
  13. Hello Clair, What would bother me in your place is, after read Jimmys responses about his motivation, you seem to be just a "proof of concept" (crashing dummy or just a mouse somewhere in a laboratory) that "IT" is doable. I wouldn't like to be that. I personally have nothing against jumping off stuff without skydiving (where I think it is a bad idea). Fact is, there is nothing better to learn to fly your body than skydiving. So in BASE you will not progress that fast, and you have to be reallyreally patient before doing the bigger jumps, means evolving in this sport. (And finding yourself beside a big cliff, it is really hard no say no, cause you can't fly your body there is the where the risky part lies..) Third, to say someone succeed doing BASE is a bit big... I think noone of us can say we succeeded doing it (except those who stopped jumping alive). all the best t.
  14. Yes, it's been done a dozen of times by P. He doesn't like Computers neither he likes spotlight... There are other things on his account. Have fun, don't get underdosed ;-) /t.
  15. Hello Tom, You mentioned in the Thread about "Beginners in Europe" (I don't know how to URL this thing) that TrackSuits are good to go. I can only disagree in this context (Beginners). What Douggs says: "...the tracking suit will take over your jump and the suit will fly you..." means for me, unless your track skills are not bomb proof, don't do it. I do know only the non-tracking suit side, since I never dared to put one of these funny looking suits (unless maybe for a Hip-Hop Party) and I have done over 100 (sub)terminal track jumps. Maybe I'm just an old fart, loving my old track-jeans (but stay interested to try this once I know how to track and am open for it). One Tip I can give is (I did some lows cause of this mistake) for exits you jump often: Don't take the distance as a reference for pulling (like Moritz mentions), always know where you are vertically! thanks for this good reading t. "On ne vie pas de saut pres..."
  16. When Uncle Charlie walks up there are some turbulences due to his fast walking style. And when he speaks very fast at the exit, again, this might increase the turbulences in the bowl. You always have to wait one hour before the infamous "Uncle Charlie"-Twister settles down... Keep also a special eye to the altitude winds, especially the ones from SW or NE.
  17. You go to N#1, !slider-down! (this exit got forgotten, a lot of newer ones don't know it), 1s delay, you will have about 60m (feet??) behind your back. If this is not enough to turn around the canopy, you're probably at the wrong place... At SB, you event have some meters more, but since jumping there isn't good idea. At YO, the overhang is to the bottom of the face. (!!Remember, this doesn't apply to the ramp. My recommendation there is: don't do the ramp!!) If you slide back in a box position, you're at the wrong place again... I don't give more details here, PM if you need.
  18. Agree with James here. Personnally had some really hairy situtations at the ITW where I'm happy to be alive... Two problems I see there: - Underestimation of the jump - Winds LB is ok to do your first jumps (did my very first jumps there), but I stronly suggest to do slider-down jumps first (there are some exits suitable for this). This is to train your eyes (often this point doesn't get trained enough) and to get used to the landing. But I agree with some on this thread, some spots require bomb-proof exits, good tracking combined with enough eye-perception and a little bit of cold-blood, hence are not suitable for low-timers!!! We (euros) all began jumping here I guess, and until last week (where I felt a bit lost) my jumping always involved a wall behing my neck...
  19. Thanks for the detailed reply. I understand all you wrote and I think the same way and at some points you ensured my thoughts. The use of the tail-gate at no-slider jumps was quite clear, and you helped me understand it better. The thoughts below only apply to slider-ups: Same for me and many others here: Whenever I put the slider up, it gets directly-controlled, always. I am still puzzled by Nicks "side-effects" of useing the direct-control. (By side-effects I understand some disadvantages/draw-backs) First I thought that the tail-gate on slider-ups inhibit tail-first inflation, I don't think this is that effective (again only at slider-ups). So, correct me if I'm wrong, I still don't see any point of useing tail-gate with a slider directly controlled except you want a backup-double-controllines-control. Thanks again for the explanations t.
  20. Hello Jonny, Nick, Can you explain the "side-effects" on direct-control?? I really can't see any advantage of useing a tail-gate instead of direct-control. Thanks t.

    Terminal PCs

    - What is the configuration you jump? - How did you control the slider? - Were the jumps in the afternoon? - Do you think too big PC was the problem? Take care, conditions are not great currently. Gusts like yesterday afternoon and valley-wind can be very tricky to handle, especially on the yellow wall.

    Terminal PCs

Hello Jaap I use following (with FOX 245 and FLIK 242) 4-6s: 38', ZP, large mesh 6-12s: 36', F111, fine mesh 36' ZP, vented, fine mesh I began useing the 36', after I felt that the snatch-force of the 38' PC became very hard, the moment when the PCs work is most important. The opening speed after line strech was feeling the same than with a 38'. >12s: 32', vented, fine mesh I used quite some time the 36' on delays up to 15'. At some spots, where it is better to pull in full track, I felt a big difference between 36 and 32, I began useing the 32' from 12seconds. This is just to give a different input about the PC sizes, since I see that people tend to use bigger sizes than I use. I think, that useing too big PCs can be very bad too, not only because of the harder opening more I think about of line-overs/twists/off-headings (I think that a too big PC and not useing a good direct slider control is the main factor of slider-up line-overs). For your questions: - Floating handles I don't use. - 36' vs. 38': Get both - 32' for a 8s delay: Sure, it works fine, but to feel confident: It depends... Hope it helps /t.
  23. Hello Tim, There is the know I talked about. I hope the picture is a bit self-explaining because my english sucks too much to get that explained. Just make as much "turns" as you need. This may even be 2 or 3 feet long. To move the thing you have to pull with the hand only the topmost sling and pull the rest of the "knot" around. Looks easy, but badly used it can ruin your day ;-)).
  24. Hello Tom There is a special knot, which were used in the old days by cable car workers and rescuers "prussik-like" on steel cables. I can try to describe if you need it.
  25. Hi Tom, Go ahead if you think this is worth it. I just did not wanted to stir in here, cause the original thread, for the good or the bad, was an advertising for the bridge: For those who did not aware about it know now. (To Hellvetic: Try to distribute such info via your friends first, before doing this worldwide.) That's why it should be on its own. So for the bad for the valley: speaking about it makes even more people there (no need to elaborate here.. even sometimes you meet good people). For the good: those people coming should know to behave, (all against it is actively burning this site). Thanks Tom for the nice support /Toni
