  1. I'm 6'2" 260...too bad I don't fit into the "can do everything better" box. About the only thing I do "better" then the next guy in skydiving is fall rate and wingloading. when i wrote that i was picturing "that guy" you see doing level 1 AFF and talking a big game. it is a joke though, its all in good fun! one more: Here's to you, Mr foot-in-the-door-of-the-plane on a hot summer day. 2. How about... Here's to your Mr. Trust Fund Baby with your BMW and brand new gear at 25 jumps. or Here's to you Mr. Pilot who still can't find the spot even with GPS. or Here's to you Mr. 6'2" 220 who thinks they can do everything better than the next guy
  3. one word: p-a-r-t-y rent a room/rent a suite/rent a condo/rent whatever buy alcohol get girls i'm just old school i suppose, but i can't even believe you're asking this question. you're in college, be in college. if your friend likes gambling, he probably likes partying, shouldn't be hard to convince him. find some boobies, and wave 'em at him.
  4. i can't resist.... i've seen quite a few girlies running round with the thong straps showing on their hips, oh my....little slutty, yes, but damn...
  5. this *may* be true...but....whatever "it" happens to be... it changes every 15 minutes!!! /seriously, girls in college will change their minds about anything in approx 15 minutes. time 'em and see... an idea - flip open that free weekly/monthly paper on campus/in town and put your finger on a cheap event. doesn't matter WTF it is, seriously - just pick one and go for it. i landed myself and a date at an alternative jazz trio one evening that was phenomenal using this dartboard method.
  6. if you are ever spending more than $40 on the date you have broken one of the cardinal rules, so i applaud your effort to find good cheap options. 7. Interesting thread to read to say the least...for a number of reasons. But, this is what I will take away from here: You've really just have to love Marketing.
  8. Here's an interesting view on how the world will end: (SFW) http://www.ebaumsworld.com/flash/endofworld.html It's flash animation, and a little old, but def worth the load time. Make sure you have sound on. Fire Z Missiles!!!
  9. I marked 2K as that's the lowest I've exited at. I'd like to try lower, but I'm not in any hurry to do it tomorrow. /please feel free to yell at me for this attachment...
  10. right on, i'll chime in...we're on page 5 now :)
  11. $23...just went up from $21. no blocks available at all either. Does whisky count as beer? - Homer There's no justice like angry mob justice. - Skinner Be careful. There's a limited future in low pulls - JohnMitchell
  12. I know what you're saying about fuel and I also hope the price comes back down. It's interesting that half the people so far have responded that prices haven't increased this summer. If prices haven't gone up for you...say where you are.
  13. Mine just did...went from 21 to 22 a few weeks ago and now they're up to 23... *sigh* What's worse, they've done away with buying in blocks for a modest discount. Previously you could buy a roll of 10 for $210 (this was when they were $22/ea). Now it's strictly $23 a jump. Anyone else experiencing the same? Hopefully this isn't too redundant...I know people ask this question all the time.
  14. B...14... missed the menopause question (how the hell do i know?) and 2: i guessed higher and #7: "It is usually difficult to tell whether people are or are not gay or lesbian just by their appearance or gestures." i live in cali and i have a problem with this one. most of the gays and lesbians i've run into pretty much look and act like a gay or lesbian person. maybe, it's because they *are* gay or lesbian...so "usually difficult" is too vague for me. but i get where the question is going "don't judge a book by its cover" & "dont label him/her gay/lesbian without knowing them" & "gays and lesbians are no different than you or i" so that's all good in my book.
  15. just some more info to add: http://money.cnn.com/2005/08/31/news/gas_prices/index.htm "There's no question gas will hit $4 a gallon," Ben Brockwell, director of pricing at the Oil Price Information Service, said. "The question is how high will it go and how long will it last?" ... "Brockwell said with gasoline prices now exceeding $3 a gallon before even reaching the wholesale level, it "doesn't take a genius" to expect retail prices to hit $4 a gallon soon." ... "With this kind of hiccup in refinery capacity, in stretched markets like California, you could see over $4 a gallon in gas," Evan Smith, an analyst at U.S. Global Investors, told CNN/Money." gouging? a real problem with supply? overdemand? either way the consumer is in for a ride. on monday i bought 87 for 2.79 in Santa Barbara, CA. today, wednesday, when i drove to work i passed the same gas station, it was 3.09. something tells me it will be even higher when i go to work tomorrow morning.

  17. this one was told me by some very very good friends...i'll only use it at worthy occasion. Here's to: To It and From It and To It Again If you ever get To It, and you can't Do It May you never get To It to Do It again... try saying that after a six pack or two... 19. don't beat yourself up too much. I failed a couple levels, hell I failed one level so bad I pretty much thought the "game was over." Thinking back, I remember failing the level where the JM finally lets go(lev 3?). I started potato chipping like crazy and turning at the same time. God, I wish I had video of that, I must've looked hilarious... The level before that incident I did something similar to you, when it came to pull time I nearly tore my JM's Alti off his wrist. Funny thing is, I went back to pull again and grabbed it AGAIN. Pull harder I told myself, haha, nope...I had found everything OK during the CoA but my hand was just gravitating toward the JM's Alti I suppose... Again, try not to beat yourself up. Lots of people post about failing levels. The trick, for me at least, was honest to god *relaxation*. It's a whole new feeling when the door opens, you hang your head out for the spot, look back in and your smiling like a 2 year old who just opened all his christmas presents. Remember to relaxe, have fun, and rehearse that dive flow until you can picture yourself executing every move in your mind. BTW, a bare bones "successful" skydive in my opinion means I jumped, landed, and walked away. Does whisky count as beer? - Homer There's no justice like angry mob justice. - Skinner Be careful. 20. Don't buy 'em. Check out the Gear section here at DZ.com and read the reviews... Search the forums... I had my own horrible experience. What a waste of time and $$. Wish I would've just ponied up for something else. Nuff said. Does whisky count as beer? - Homer There's no justice like angry mob justice. - Skinner Be careful. 21. I was off for exactly a year... call the time off a "series of bad decisions"... at any rate, my recurrency consisted of about 30min to an hour of classroom training and EP practice. After that it was plan a dive (I chose FF, because I am more comfortable with that) and execute the dive. Just paid for the Instructors slot was all. Course I knew him, so that changes it up a bit. I would say worst case scenario you pay for FJC, an Instructor, and their jump ticket. Best case scenario you get informal classroom training and pay the Instructors slot. Have fun, don't forget to pull ;) Does whisky count as beer? - Homer There's no justice like angry mob justice. - Skinner Be careful. There's a limited future in low pulls - JohnMitchell
  22. Is there a new mod that Velocity has out for better bridle protection? I have a rig that is mfg 6/2003, I believe. Not that I'm really worried, or I think it's required, I figure I have excellent protection as it is, but I'm just asking because you all got me curious. Thanks
  23. looks good... i'm missing the articulated harness...anyone know how much it would cost to upgrade/replace? your color scheme looks damn good :) Does whisky count as beer? - Homer There's no justice like angry mob justice. - Skinner Be careful. 24. i can understand and agree with your opinion. what's good for the goose isn't necc good for the gander. i would venture to say that anytime you are getting repeatedly slammed (by any canopy) you should probably sit down and talk with a rigger. 25. I jump a Sabre 1 150. I purchased the canopy used for cheap, it had approx 500 jumps on it. It already had an enlarged slider. I've put another 100 jumps on it or so and had easy openings everytime. If yours doesn't already have an enlarged slider (some folks will recco the pocket as they have done in this thread) go see your rigger. He/she will know exactly what to do. This is what I do during packing: After walking up the lines and flaking....Roll the end cells in groups tightly toward the center cell. You'll have two groups of end cells. Each group rolled toward the center cell. I tend to roll them 4-5 times. Pull the center cell out just a bit, you don't need to go crazy. Don't forget to quarter that slider. Wrap the tail around it for a snug fit. This, for me, means putting 2-3 rolls in before I lay 'er on the ground for folding and stuffing into the bag. Keep good control while folding and stuffing. I've deployed in a full sit before and been just fine. Obviously that's not going to be a wonderful opening, but I have yet to experience the "whacks" that everyone rants and raves about on the Sabre 1. I chalk it up to a lot of gossip and that old game of "telephone" where you start with the "the mouse has green cheese" and you end up with "the mouse took over the world and enslaved all of humanity." The sabre 1, IMHO, is a damn fine canopy for a beginner, especially because of it's price point and availability. Sure you can go grab a Pilot, Spectre, Safire or wutever, but damn I paid practically nothing for mine and it opens nicely everytime. /knock on wood //here comes a mal this saturday....
