  2. the website is still up but I haven't heard anything from Jim since the move. ADI ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -
  3. I really hate logging as well but keep up w/ it as much as possible. If you ever want to get an AFF, Tandem, etc rating, you'll REALLY hate trying to get all your logs signed so you have the necessary FF time, jumps, etc... After I went through the course I have been much better about logging jumps. Yes I've got both a Pro-Track and a Neptune but I still jot them down in my log book. ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -
  4. worked fine for me. Looks pretty nice ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -
  5. Which canopy manufacturer is saying no. PD, Precision, and I think Aerodyne all make TSO'd soft links. ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -
  6. Focus on something that is a good distance from you, across the yard, at least 100 feet or more. That should give you an infinity focus where everything from a couple feet from you to that distance or further is in focus. ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. 7. Is it in manual focus or automatic? If it's auto it will search for a subject to focus on. ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -
  8. Does that include the R-max? It seemed to pack bigger unlike the raven & dash-m series. ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -
  9. John, you should take time to watch it. It is absolutely amazing. It's a white knuckle video. If you get a chance ask KB about the blue toilet water in the plane. You'll get a laugh out of that. Do you know if that Folkker is still flying? ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -
  10. Folker didn't believe that the plane did what it did and was able to be recovered in one piece. They wanted proof that it had actually happened. By their data, it was impossible to recover the plane. Maybe not close to the ground but by all standards it was close to going in. I know I'd be pooping in my pants.... If you look the FAA definition of a stall and spin it is: Stall Defined:A stall is a loss of lift and increase in drag that occurs when an aircraft is flown at an angle of attack greater than the angle for maximum lift. Failure to recover from a stall may result in a spin or secondary stall. All spins are preceded by at least a partial stall of one wing. So technically, the Folkker did spin, it just never got around. Where were you in the AC? I'm still amazed that it didn't go in. I talked to KB about it and he was telling me about being on the inside of the plane and managing to get out of the door. I bet that had to be a memorable moment in you skydiving career. 11. It was a porter that collided w/ another aircraft in March 2002, at Marana. Mr. Timmons The Folker almost crashed as is went into an inverted spin, but the pilots managed to recover the plane before it crashed. REALLY amazing video. No other info on the wing bending otter, except that the pilot was supposedly out of the army within a couple weeks. ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. 12. The reason it doesn't look like it's running that fast is because it has a gear reduction box between the power-turbine and the prop-shaft. The N1 turbine speed is about 19000rpm at 100%. A interesting fact is that the PT6 prop shaft is only connected by air to the power section. You can actually start a PT6 w/ someone holding the propeller and it won't move. That's also why you get a lag when you apply power to the engine. THe original PT6 did not have a reversible prop, but since then all variants have had reversers. The -20, -21, -27, -28, -34 , -41, -42, -67, etc.... all can move the prop 8 to 11 degrees past beta (zero thrust ) to achieve reverse. It's worse to blow a nose than a main tire. however most blowout occur on landing not takeoff, since the tire is going from 0 to 60-80 kts instantaneously.. That's why you have a parachute.... ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -
  13. small mistake - I just got a PM from the author of Paralog. Jumptrack is L&B's software and does not have anything to do w/ paralog. HOWEVER you can buy Paralog for the Protrack and buy just the ProTrack Cradle. ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -
  14. You'll need to download the Paralog and then you'll need to purchase the license key to have full download capability. There are no wires for a neptune for download as everything is IR. If you don't have an IR port on your computer, you can get a USB IR port either thru Alti-2 or at BestBuy/CircuitCity/ etc... Uploading jumplogs from the Neptune is pretty easy, but I'd advise you to get someone to help you set it up if you don't know computers very well. The JumpTrack is the cradle for a Pro-Track and paralog software comes as part of the JumpTrack Package. You don't need this unless you get a pro-track. ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -
  15. OK I'll chime in here. I prefer the goldmember over the stroboframe. I felt my stroboframe had more play than my goldmember. I do agree w/ quade that it would be nice if BH made a flash mount for the goldmember. I personally feel the GM is more secure and if the retainer pin was to break, the camera would probably stay on regardless. I don't think you can go wrong w/ either. just my .02. ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -
  16. I've got an Illusion w/ a 10D mounted to the top w/ a Goldmember mount. I've had no problems with that setup. The hinge jaw is VERY secure. If you're looking to add multiple cameras (eg: two video + still or two still +video) or you want to have a flash system for a common use, get the FTP. I've put a flash a couple times on my Illusion, but would have been better served w/ the FTP. ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. 17. You must have gotten a "generic" Sony HC40 cause my Sony DCR-HC40 does have a firewire port. It's between the USB and the AV port. It's the one marked DV. • Analog To Digital Conversion with Pass-Through Convert and/or record any analog NTSC video source to digital video via the analog inputs. Analog NTSC video can also be passed through the digital Handycam camcorder directly into a PC via the i.LINK® interface in real-time for easy PC editing of your analog footage. i.LINK is a trademark of Sony, used only to designate that a product contains an IEEE1394 connector. All products with an IEEE1394 connector may not communicate with each other. IEEE1394 is the same as firewire. ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -
  18. There were some problems with the original crossfires and only certain SNs. All the ones out there should have been corrected according to a service bulletin. It is still a good canopy. ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -
  19. What camera setup do you have? I got a Skyhook on my rig, but I've always disconnected it for camera jumps (especially w/ stills). I've got an optik illusion w/ a side mount. Dave ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -
  20. Thank-you for choosing the PIMPDADDY Open-Faced helmet. Please read these steps carefully BEFORE fitting your new helmet. The PIMPDADDY Basics The liner is made up of three sections of a thermo-formable foam, which when heated will soften and can be molded during the cooling process. * Preheat oven to 200 Fahrenheit or 80 centigrade. * Place the helmet with liner, on a piece of cardboard, in the center of the oven. Make sure the helmet is not touching any sides of the oven. * TURN OFF THE OVEN * Leave the helmet in the oven for 10-15 minutes until the heat permeates the helmet making it more flexible. * Remove the helmet, AND THE CARDBOARD, and place the helmet on your head. * Using a towel or pot holders apply pressure at the ears, pushing the helmet down and towards the ears. * Hold the helmet in this position until the helmet cools and becomes less flexible. Approximately 10 minutes * REMOVE THE CARDBOARD FROM THE OVEN! The procedure above can be repeated for a custom fit. Fitting Your Audible Remove the ear pad and place the audible in-between the elastic (in internal pocket) and ear pad. Replace ear pad back in the helmet. Helpful Hints and Tricks for The Kitchen - Custom Fitting Instructions Practice putting the helmet on and taking it off before jumping it. * Always make sure your helmet is on straight during the cooling process. It forms the way you tell it to. * When you remove the ear pads from the oven, before you place them in the helmet pinch down the edges as follows: * Pinch down along the top of the pads until you hear the bubbles begin to pop. This will make it easier for the wings to slip over the flange on the top piece. Continue this down the entire top of the ear pads. * When you place the helmet on your head and have it locked, tuck in the liner in any places it may be sticking out. * Remember that any areas you pinch or compress will remain that way permanently. Do this procedure only in places where it is absolutely necessary. * The helmet may be uncomfortable in the beginning. This is caused by the expansion of air bubbles in the liner at altitude. Be patient, the liner WILL break in and become more comfortable. And yes you can put a chin cup on a pimp-daddy. ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -
  21. I have seen one unstow itself (loose fabric) but I think the only way it could have stowed iteself is if both the cords caught on some part of the jumper and when it was cut, it collapsed the slider and then released the canopy. I think he probably didn't unstow it. People do make mistakes. ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -

  23. From the post it sounds like the student was a Cat D or higher since he had one instructor. Was he not taught to fly to the DZ? What about calling back to the dz on his radio (assuming he had one) when he landed off? A mile off isn't that far (lenght of a runway). I've had a Cat A student have a radio malfunction and make it back to the airport. A Cat C or higher student is allowed to continue a stable skydive w/ no instructor however a student is also supposed to pull if he sees the instructor pull. I'm not sure you've got all the info about the dive right. If the instructor had pulled due to the bad spot the student should have pulled immediately. I'm also confused about the partial malfunction; was it before he pulled and he pulled becuse he had an unsafe condition on his rig OR did he pull and then had a partial malfunction or issues with his opening. Your second post said the instructor was above the student, but your first post sounds like the instructor went low under canopy due to the malfunction. An instructor isn't going to say "F$#% the student, I'll have a nice skydive and open high so I'll make it back ok." His first job is going to be keeping the student safe until hard deck. However even the best AFF instructors / evaluators/ course directors can have a bad jump, we're all human. Like one of the above post said, I'd first talk to the DZO/Chief Instructor if you have concerns. If his answer doesn't satisfy you and you think he runs an unsafe operation, go to another dz. 24. Hey guys, I'm going to try to make it out for a day. Dave ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -
  25. The C is the size yoke, or size of shoulders. I had a C yoke & I've got about a 42in chest. I have also seen a guy w/ probably a 38in chest w/ a C yoke. The largest size is a D the smallest is an A. The 17 is about the inches from the top of your hip-bone to the hole in your throat. I'm 6'3" and I had a 19in. So my size harness from sunpath was a C-19. Hope this helps. If not call the manufacturer. Every manuf. sizes their harness differently. The best thing to do is to ask the person what size they are. ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -
