Me too.. have to sit still for too long. Since there are a bunch of smarties who maintain this site, I would assume that there is a reason we just have PM's and no IM. I would assume that the reason is that this is, for the most part, a site for posting questions and information regarding skydiving. IM's are not searchable. The forums are a good .. um.. forum.. in which to find information, and they work well on this site. Hopefully that made sense.. I have a fever and feel a little incoherent.

One of us is grounded for the time being due to a perforation in the inner ear canal. Plus, that person is only on Cat. D-1 of AFF. I'm not telling who that person is. Chris Your doc will let you travel by plane but not skydive? That doesnt make a lot of sense.. but then I'm no expert on inner ear maladies. (ouch!) But seriously, if y'all decide to come jump in Tullahoma, we are fun group of jumpers, we have a big plane, and for Muenkel, lots of room on the ground. I'll even let you pack for me so you wont feel left out! I'm sure your hosts will take good care of you, but if you want more info on fun places to go out in Nashville, PM me.

I flew from Nashville to DFW and back less than a week ago with my rig as a carry on. Had no trouble at all getting through security. They paid more attention to my shoes. I've carried it on (round trip) flights three times this summer with no trouble at all. The card out of my cypres manual came in handy one time. I guess it just depends on how anal the security personnell on staff is.

I'd have to agree with buying used gear for your first rig. I'm just barely off student status and I have a used talon. I'm only a little embarrassed to admit that I dont stand up every landing just yet.. but if I had brand new gear, I'd be more likely to sacrifice flesh rather than scratching up my gear or getting it dirty if I bombed a landing. Its similar to buying a sixteen year old a brand new car. Doesnt make a whole lot of sense. Get a good, sturdy rig that you can contine to learn on. Also, as stated by others in this thread, you are likely to downsize before you can get your moneys worth out of brand new gear. But hey, its your money... just get a rig and keep jumping!
