  1. But it is so damn hard to train butterflies. They are quite free-spirited. It must have something to do with the whole double birth-ritual thing. FallRate
  2. Good point. I was thinking they should have received a punishment that was a bit more stiff. But state prison should provide plenty of stiff punishment. FallRate
  3. Not that they used a condom...hence the stain. I found this line interesting: Whether you think it was the worst thing a President has ever done or something we shouldn't think twice about, they did have a sexual relationship. FallRate
  4. If you had posted my quote in its entirety, the fact that your response is nonsensical would be much more apparent. FallRate
  5. "His followers" may be willing to accept that the Federal Government could have reacted better to this crisis and that Bush has taken responsibility for this, but "his followers" are generally unwilling to accept the allegation that this was almost entirely Bush's fault. An accusation you have made in a round-a-bout manner by calling the federal response a colossal failure. The failures seen at the state and local levels far outshine those of the federal response. 6. One of the EMT's and another woman in the group were interviewed on NPR. It's worth a listen if they have posted it on the their site. Apparently the partner of the EMT who was interviewed was able to contact his union president and that person knew someone in FEMA who made a special allowance for the EMT's to cross the bridge. At the bridge, the EMT's were told that only immediate family was allowed out...so the EMT's were a little creative were able to get about 5 others out. This is one of many stories that will come out of this, but this has been enough to make me ill. FallRate
  7. Wow. What luck! I usually have to pay $39.95 for the benefit of such wisdom. But, wait...are you willing to throw in a free Ginsu knife? FallRate
  8. Let me emphasize...I will not lose sleep over someone who earned a shitload of money for part-time work losing out on his retirement. I didn't post this. I only responded to the idea that this was somehow alarming. It isn't. As far as very few people being able to do the job...there are more people who are qualified to do that job than there are who actually have the job. As far as supply and demand goes, supply is quite high right now...and Airlines are adjusting for it. His money? Not if he doesn't actually get to deposit it in his own account. If the company doesn't have it...well, promises, promises. FallRate
  9. Most everyone walks a fine line. Most Americans are insulated from bankruptcy by two to four paychecks. I watched a man, who was raising a family, lose his job delivering pizzas because a customer complained that he was rude...not insulting...just rude. I know of a man (my Father knew him well) who broke a window at Kroger's Grocery by accidentally pushing a stack of carts into it...after 20+ years of service to this company, he was immediately fired and denied any retirement benefits. A co-worker of mine lost her position as a Truck Driver for FedEx when she developed diabetes. We can all lose our jobs (or careers) for many reasons, at any time. Pilots are not unique in this matter. FallRate
  10. Umm...anyone notice this: $7,000 a month One of the most serious problems that the majors face is the exorbitant salaries paid to flight crews. Sorry if I'm not sensitive to the plight of someone who made a six figure salary while employed part-time! (This statement is based on a conversation I had with a retired Marine Colonel flying for Fed-Ex. His direct quote concerning flying for a major: "You can't beat the money for a part-time job.") Edited to add: While I feel strongly about this, I would like to say that I do not wish your Father any ill will. FallRate
  11. This is excellent commentary. The current position of power that the Republicans enjoy is mostly a reaction to the unstable position that unchecked progressive policies have left us in. (This is an opportunity for the Democratic Party to re-evaluate their platform and policies.) If the Right/Republicans/Conservatives use this position not to remedy real problems but to push simple-minded objectives then the pendulum will certainly swing...err, fall back. And nothing will be accomplished, except that we will further divide ourselves by continuing to choose the lesser of two very serious evils. FallRate
  12. I have always thought that except for newly made citizens and military inductees, it is somewhat pointless to make people recite the pledge. I imagine most married couples don't recite their vows everyday before breakfast. I don't know though...maybe it does instill a sense of civic duty. *shrug* FallRate
  13. That is a separate issue. All liberal ideas and plans cannot be lumped together as the same thing. While people fought for equal access to the polls for everyone they did not necessarily argue for a welfare system, while well intentioned, the would have the consequence of ruining a large segment of society. 14. Quite seriously, Kallend, it would be much more productive if you would expound on your thoughts. I have an idea of what you meant, and your position may be valid, but ambiguous quips do nothing to further the discussion. FallRate
  15. How about throwing a generator on a stationary bike, connecting it to your TV and peddling your way through your favorite shows. Can't watch if you don't pedal...could help with the obesity problem.
  16. That was a gutbuster!!! Thanks for the laugh! FallRate
  17. Hello all. I recently ended my four year experience in North Dakota/Northern Minnesota and have finally made it back to civilization where I can have something other than a very slow dial-up connection to the Internet. I had cable four years ago...it was like going from rich to poor. Anyway, I now have the ability once again to take full advantage of the Internet and have been browsing sites for video that I wouldn't have been able to take advantage of over the past four years. Launch.com has proven to be cool, and Kontraband.com is interesting. But without a doubt the coolest site I have visited has to be PBS.org. I had no idea that you could watch episodes of NOVA online! While it might just mean that I'm a big nerd, I can't get over it. It's like discovering a free porn site! Only you don't have to deal with watching a minute at a time. And it doesn't seem to make you as sleepy. FallRate
  18. Interesting...what are the rules/qualifications regarding the competition? FallRate
  19. I find the fact that so many nations have offered us help to be quite reassuring. It makes me happy. Thanks to all of you. FallRate
  20. No wonder you're so cranky. FallRate
  21. I'll see that and raise you by 15 with my Golf. :) Almost forgot, my YZF gets 44. If I lane share and run the lights, it does really well in the city too. FallRate
  22. Hmmm...intentionally inflammatory post...yet you have the nerve to arrogantly question whether anyone here actually read your post after receiving inflamed responses. Makes perfect nonsense. If you have a point to make, it is best to do so in a polite manner. If you would rather be offensive, don't pretend to take offense. Sit back, relax and suck it up. FallRate
  23. The fact that you compare Iraq to Katrina as being a choice is ridiculous. No one had the opportunity to sit down and say to themselves "Should we pay to end the war in Iraq* or save the money for Katrina?" You don't agree with the effort to end the war in Iraq? Fine. You are entitled to your opinion and I do respect that. But the position that it was either Iraq or Katrina is arbitrary...certainly no different than someone who claims we should not have spent billions on NASA while New Orleans (or any other city) faced devastation. *Just in case you weren't paying attention during the '90s...the Iraq war was ongoing.
