I don't know enough about the design going up in San Diego to know if this is going to be a clone of that facility or a new design altogether. It also looks like this is going to be a 16 foot design unlike most of iFly's 14 and 12 foot designs they are building right now. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  2. I just looked up the candidates site: http://electspragins.com/ From her platform: Eliminate the state income tax, with the first priority being the tax on business income to accelerate job creation Opt out of federal regulations to the extent possible and do not use state government to enforce federal regulations. Help protect Missourians from the Fed’s inflationary policies by making gold, silver and other forms of physical or digital currency that the market adopts, legal tender in the state. Opt out of federal interference in education and federally-imposed standards Eliminate the state department of education and return children’s education to full local and parental control Eliminate state requirements and restrictions on the provision of education Transition state universities to a self-funding model and ultimately privatize them Eliminate plea bargaining that coerces defendants into accepting a guilty plea without a trial. The court system will be dramatically less congested without victimless crimes. As long as the party puts forward these types of plans/canidates they are looked at as a joke by most educated voters. 3. You need to fly more then I've encountered at least 3 of these this year so far.(74 segments/58k domestic so far) The worst one was about 3 weeks ago on a flight from PHX to the Midwest. Older woman that needed assistance/wheelchair getting on the plane had a large German Shepard/Lab mix. They seated her in the Bulkhead row (A319) so the dog could lay down for the flight. On the other side of the aisle one row back a couple was traveling with a small dog that was under the seat in a carrier. The "emotional support" dog spent the entire flight trying to get up and go see the other dog. It was in the aisles the entire flight and its owner had no control over it and eventually just gave up in trying to control it. The owners of the small dog eventually put the small dog next to the window to keep her away from the larger dog. Emotional support owner eventually went to sleep and the crew was just shaking the heads at the situation. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  4. I would be quite inclined to vote for a Liberation candidate if that was the platform but far too many of them are in the mindset of eliminating all of government and letting the local agencies take over. I was stuck in a hotel on the road the other week with CSPAN on and listened to the MO Governors debate. The Libertarian candidate's plan to eliminate the deficit that the state was facing was to shut down the department of education, transportation, commerce and a few other agencies and turn those functions over to the local counties and cities instead. Her proposal was basically to privatize all roads, bridges and other infrastructure and let the counties/cities fund everything at the local level. She wanted to implement a toll at the border of the state to charge all non-resident vehicles an entry and exit fee and use that money to fund the few highways that the state was mandated to maintain and then leave the rest of the functions to the local government. The plan for education was to allow every school district to fund itself and to be able to set individual standards. She was really big on home schooling and was proposing allowing parents to set their own standards for their home schooled child's education. It was not called out specifically but it seemed that she was wanting to pull all funding for higher education and privatize the state universities also. Her plan basically called for the elimination of the state level of government and was going to force the locality to figure out everything locally. This might sound great but when faced with the realities of needing to have a statewide standard for education so that graduates are all expected to be able to be at the same basic level this plan does not work out. Low performing Schools and home schooled students especially could adopt very low standards and reduce the education level dramatically of large portions of the state. This type of deficit can take 15-20 years to correct itself with an entire generation of students and graduates suffering. Funding of schools generally relies on a much larger tax base than a single district could cover due to the variance in income and property values in a single district. Allowing a rich suburb or office location to set a tax rate could raise large amounts of money but trying to tax farms or intercity locations will not result in near the same income which will automatically reduce money available to spend on students. You are essentially creating a two tier education system in these cases and that is not even considering Private schools in this equation. She did not seem to have an issue with this and the reply was basically "move" to counter this argument from someone on the stage. The examples go on and on in this case but as long as the party puts forth candidates that want to basically destroy the government and all the value it provides it makes it hard for large portions of the voting population to get behind them. 13. If you keep your USPA sport license current and paid for you will also need to get your coach rating first and the USPA tandem rating also. For the re-currency in the spring you might need to find an experienced jumper to come out and do the ride along to keep that current and legal. Once a year you will also need to get an Examiner, S&TA or Regional Director to sign off on your paperwork for the renewal also. All BSR's still apply even if you are not at a USPA DZ so all the fun stuff like night jumps and such are still prohibited. It will not be hard to do it but its going to be a lot of hoops to jump through and expense to avoid getting in to commercial operations and needing a commercial pilot to fly if there is any money or goods being exchanged at all. 14. A Vector2 rig as long as its still serviceable can be jumped. The Sigma is a much superior platform from UPT in my opinion. The entire release system is better and it is way more comfortable. I too let my rating lapse a few years ago but you need to really think hard if you want to drop the cash into a tandem rig since even a good condition used Vector 2 tandem is still getting 4-5K and a good used Sigma with canopies is 6-9k right now. Tandem courses are going for $350-500 plus the cost of the gear rental and slots so budget about $1000 for that. That's a lot of money for the rig plus the maintenance on it just to take a few tandems a year. If you get a Sigma you will need the Sigma endorsement plus the Vector 2 rating, most courses are only being ran on Sigma's right now so you will need to be really clear to the examiner your intentions so they cover the right instructions for your rig since there are a few situations where the procedures differ. As for me, doing anything less than 100 tandems or so a year was not worth it for me since I never felt like I had got to the point of mastering all aspects that were needed to be a good TI. The only way to get more comfortable is to do a lot of jumps and that does not sound like something you are intending on doing so I would keep that in mind as you are looking at this. You also need to consider the liability behind this, even if you are not charging for it and only taking family and friends there still is liability that if you injure someone or yourself then their insurance still may coming knocking looking to recoup some of the money they paid out. You will need a waiver at least plus the waiver that UPT/Strong needs signed for all tandem jumps to occur. Also here is a note from UPT if you do get their rating: Tandem Instructor Ratings must be renewed annually. To apply for renewal, you must have made at least 25 tandem jumps within the preceding 365 days, and you must have made 3 tandem jumps within the preceding 90 days CURRENCY REQUIREMENTS In addition to yearly certification, Vector/Sigma Instructors are expected to maintain currency during the year by covering all tandem emergencies while in a hanging-harness simulating canopy emergencies, and while wearing a tandem system (standing on the ground) while simulating drogue and aircraft emergencies. A. If any currently rated Tandem Instructor has not made a tandem jump in the preceding 90 days, he/she must make a minimum of one (1) satisfactory tandem jump with an experienced jumper acting as a student prior to jumping with actual students. B. If any currently rated Tandem Instructor has not made a tandem jump within the last 180 days, he/she must complete recurrent training before jumping with actual students. C. If any currently rated Vector/Sigma Instructor has not made a tandem jump in the preceding two (2) years, he/she must attend a complete tandem training course covering the classroom/ground school and make a minimum of three (3) satisfactory re-certification jumps. Here are UPT's requirements to attend their course: APPLICANT QUALIFICATIONS Before an applicant may attend a tandem certification, the following criteria must be met: •Be at least 18 years of age. •Be a USPA license holder for a minimum of 3 years •Hold a current USPA D license. * • Currently possess,or at one time been issued, a USPA Coach, a USPA static-line instructor, or USPA AFF Instructor rating* •Have logged at least 500 ram-air jumpsand accumulated at least 6 hours freefall time •Has logged at least 100 ram-air jumps in past 12 months. •Hold a current FAA Class I, II or III medical certificate. If you look at Strong here are some of their course requirements: Minimum of 18 years of age. 2. 50 jumps within the last year. 3. Jumpmaster or Instructor rating, or the Basic Instructor Course (BIC), or coach. 4. One intentional or emergency cut-a-way. 5. Four hours of freefall time. 6. Current FAA Class III Flight Physical, or parachuting physical approved by a national parachuting association or the military. All Candidates must meet the FAA requirements and Strong Enterprises' prerequisites before attending the Tandem Instructor Certification Course. Proof of prerequisites must be shown to the Examiner. Along with original logs and documents Candidate must submit copies of:. a. Logs showing three years of skydiving experience. b. Logs showing 500 freefalls. 3. Logs showing 50 jumps within the last 12 months. 4. Logs showing four hours in freefall. 5. Logs showing one cut away (intentional or emergency), 6. 15. What are the expectations on what it will take to win the debate on Monday? I actually think no matter what Clinton will lose unless there is an epic meltdown from Trump. This is because the expectations that have been laid out for him to this point are so low that as long as he does not openly threaten to start a nuclear war on his first day in office he might be the winner of the debate. The expectations for Clinton are so high due to her previous background that she has to clear a much higher bar. Trump can wonder around topics and spout off about anything close to the topic and he will be OK but if Clinton is either too precise or too vague in any answer it is going to come off as a wrong answer. 18. I have seen more than one individual get grounded for a day for spiraling down as fast as they can to 800-1200 feet then sitting in brakes to shoot a landing pattern or accuracy on a target and cause a dozen jumpers that were later in the load to have to veer off since the first jumper was unpredictable and caused traffic jams behind them. Modern canopy flight is all about making mixed traffic patterns work even if that is having slower canopies that were out first land after the smaller faster canopies that were out last. Its something to be aware of no matter what size canopy you fly. Smaller canopies need to be prepared to fly in brakes the entire time in case traffic gets ahead of them and larger canopies need to be prepared to yield to faster traffic. 20. Body flight has came a long ways from the 90's in terms of how we fly. Mantis was an unheard of body position for belly flying and now every team flies it since its a more efficient body position. We used to teach and were taught to hug a beach ball if we needed to go slower but after thousands of hours in the tunnel its been found that its not the slowest position at all and its easier to plank to go slower. Head down flight was something that was called freakflying and most people were happy if they could just see each other at the same time, now you have some insane moves that are only possible due to just stupid amount of time in the wind tunnel learning how to fly at extremely precise levels. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUDW3OMTMo8 To give you some perspective - 150 jumps is about maybe 2 and a half hours total freefall time. Most wind tunnel instructors are in the wind stream for that every day when they go to work. You will frequently find tunnel flyers that have 200+ hours in the tunnel or 12000 jumps worth of experience and have only done a few hundred jumps at most. This really is a case where in your absence the sport has changed by leaps and bounds due to new tools and techniques being introduced. Thats not a bad thing since now you can jump in and forget all the bad things we were taught years ago and start fresh again. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  21. As a rigger that has packed a few - Forget the Swift, any of the currently made reserves fly and land fairly great at a low wingloading. The general advice I would give you is to forget about the experience from 30 years ago and look at this like a fresh student that has not made any jumps. Do the training jumps and refresher jumps on the schools gear to see what size the instructors feel is best for you. Typically they will put you on a rig that is your body weight + the weight of the gear (30 pounds for student gear) in square footage or larger. So at 200 lbs with out anything I would not be surprised if they put you on a 230+. Depending on how your landings are going they may want you to stay there for a while until you get all of your landings completely dialed in or they could have you jumper larger or smaller as needed. I have seen people coming back from long layoffs that decide that they wanted to stay at that wingloading since it was comfortable to them and I have seen others that go down a few sized because they wanted to go a lot faster and had good piloting skills. A few major things have changed since even the early 90's in terms of canopy flight at the dropzone, the first is that with the larger number of small canopies there is a need for increased awareness under canopy. Things that used to happen a lot at small DZ's and back in the day like holding a toggle and spiraling a dozen times from 2000 feet to 800 feet are now liable to cause a collision and fatalities. This is also a consideration for pull altitudes, when jumpers with larger canopies at a lighter loading are out first they may be passed by half the load on the way back to the landing area. Many instructors and video flyers who are jumping out last tend to be flying the smallest canopies at the DZ, this leads to those instructors flying the fastest canopies through the rest of the traffic to get back to the DZ for landings. With the small canopies they start their final hook turn at 700-1200 feet so you really need to make sure you are heads up under canopy to A) stay alive, B) stay out of a collision and C) not get yelled at by half the load and potentially grounded for causing a dangerous situation. All of these details should be covered in a lot of detail by your instructors but make sure to ask since a lot of new instructors have not been around to know what we used to do. Second thing that has a major revolution in canopies was the adoption of Zero Porosity fabric on all main canopies. This fabric does not let air through at the same rates that the old F1-11 fabric does so that means that the canopies last for a long time before they wear out. Most F1-11 canopies start landing like bricks after 1000+ jumps and their landings start going downhill at low as 600-700 jumps. ZP canopies can go 2000+ jumps. The downside is that with htis new material the canopies if not properly packed now can open hard enough to injure. There have been a few fatalities that jumpers have suffered hard openings with internal injuries that have lead to their death. A "Slow" opening canopy can actually be a really nice thing especially as you get older since it allows for more time for your body to decelerate until the canopy opens fully. Most student gear is of the slower opening designs since students may be deploying in a spin, tumbling or other issues and this allows for more forgiveness in those less than optimal positions. Another major thing that has changed since the 90's is the adoption of electronic AAD's by most jumpers. With an activation altitude of around 800-900 feet for most units in freefall this has had the consequence of main deployment altitude going up since jumpers want to avoid double out situations. Some jumpers have changed their activation altitudes to as high as 1200 feet so they are deploying their main at 2500-3000 feet to make sure if they have a malfunction they have time to deal with it prior to getting to AAD activation altitude range. The case is being prosecuted as a hate crime under Florida law, and the suspect, Joseph Michael Schreiber, 32, faces at least 30 years in prison if convicted of committing Monday's arson attack, according to the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office. An examination of Schreiber's social media account also uncovered "multiple anti-Islamic posts and comments," Thompson said. He did not elaborate. But a Facebook page apparently belonging to the suspect - established under his name with photos resembling his booking photo - include a message posted on July 12 that said "ALL ISLAM IS RADICAL, and should be considered TERRORIST AND CRIMANALS" written in capital letters with several misspellings.
