  2. It is kind of funny that this came up. I have many skydiver friends that are in the Army. A large majority of them are in the middle east as I write this. One of them was going to be staying in GA, as he is in a non-deployable billet. But with two days warning he was sent to the middle east. Why? Because some kid had decided that he was not going to go and had decided that he must see a physician to give an evaluation on his mental condition. He gets to stay here and feel sorry for himself, while another with the courage to stand up for what he believed in went to the middle east. The way that my friend put it was "after the war at least I will be able to respect myself." Big newsflash for anyone who enlists in the military (or accepts money for college) and is in a fighting unit, you will have to fight. They made the decision and they will have to live with it. What about the guy that will replace this kid. What if he gets involved in the fighting. Then whose life will be ruined? See my above example. This guy I know was doing taxes for people last week. Is he as current in his training as the combat unit guy is? Probably not.
  3. I totally agree, but some would have you believe that this is acceptable. I also think that they should give the guy that will have to take his place in Iraq Mr. Funk's home address, maybe they could have a discussion when the honorable soldier returns from this war. Mr. Funk should be punished to the full extent of the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice).

  5. My best wishes go to all those involved...if you have the time (and you believe in doing so) say a prayer for my mom, she is over there(USAF).

    So sad....

[email]As I said usually those who are looking soley for money usually do not have the dedication to make it through (I can only speak for Auburn). In my limited experience in the Navy (3 yrs active and 3 yrs at auburn) regardless of initial motivations people in the Navy are willing to perform, without reservations, their duty. And I feel, as does everyone that I have talked to in my particular ROTC unit, that this is a just war. Well I am really glad that IMO we don't have that problem in Auburn or in the submarine force (six year commitment is too long for them).

    So sad....

I am attending auburn university on a naval ROTC scholarship and I assure you that the last thing that I or any other ROTC cadet want is your pity. We joined so that we could hold ourselves up to a higher level and give something back to the country that we love. If we had simply needed a way to pay for college we would have gotten a loan. I am glad that you never signed up because the military service as a whole would suffer if we were producing officers that joined for an "easy" way to get money. From the Auburn NROTC webpagewww.auburn.edu/nrotc Now achieving that would be a little bit difficult if we were all out looking for a few easy bucks.
  8. Come on people...if it messes up your computer you can uninstall it! Mine is running fine, it gives up the processor as soon as you begin doing anything. Give it a try.
  9. My second one is at 317/400...it might be just me, but this one seems faster than the last one.
  10. Check ouw www.wjjeeps.com there is a lot of information on the wiring for jeeps. Also check out the forums at http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/ Hope this helps!
  11. The $149 weekend has been rescheduled for 22-24 march due to bad weather.
  12. Neither...wherever you can find cheap gas-station priced sunglasses, try them on. Make sure they are tight at the top, attach a sunglasses strap and jump with the sunglasses. I haven't worn goggles since I had 20 jumps. But if you really must have goggles I like the kroops
  13. I had many of the same problems with my cobalts (150 and 135). They opened well most of the time but usually once per weekend I would have a neck-breaker. Solution...get a Xaos, mine consistently opens with a nice long snivel and does not have to be packed a particular way to acheive good openings.

  15. I think that neither method would be better for canopy control. However, most static line DZ's are quite a bit smaller than the DZ's that use AFF. When I started at a S/L DZ (walterboro) there were always plenty of people waiting around the picknic benches to get onto a load. Some of the expierienced jumpers that sat there would give you little tips when you walked in that went a long way...so the question really is...how much time do the experienced jumpers spend looking at others land and giving them helpful suggestions?
  16. We could grab some of the people that are taking my money already (unemployment, welfare) and make them actually start working for a living (while they are trying to find another job). Actually, I have always been in favor of something like that, it pisses me off to see people who are supposed to be serving time (prison) being outside and working. You shouldn't get something for nothing, and welfare and unemployment shouldn't be the exception.
  17. Both my parents are in the military as am I. One of them (my parents) is in the Middle East right now and the other one probably will be (and both were before) soon. I have to sit in my "Great Books" and history classes and hear the teachers blast america and the military everyday. But I'm in college, and smart enough to listen to what other people have to say and draw MY OWN conclusions. I make the personal decision to invest my time and energy to forming my own views. That being said, I could probably convince a group of 7 year-olds of just about anything given several months to work on them. IMO teachers of children at such a young age have the responsibility to maintain a level of disinterestedness about current events and give the children a few years to develop and begin to draw their own conclusions.
  18. So tim...did the plane fly on Sunday? What was the time to altitude?
  19. Even if the only offroading done is for no reason other than to have fun and get stuck...that is cool, I used to do it, but people have totally chromed-out everything on the bottom of their trucks
  20. Let me preface this by saying that I go up to the mountains more than 20 times a year and actually need an AWD vehicle sometimes, but... Most of the people here in auburn with those trucks never take them offroad and they will admit it. I think of the attachment when I see them. edited to say NSFW!!!language
  21. We ditched the otter (leased) for a "super" king air(bought). I actually like the king air better for those days when there are not enough jumpers to get back to backs on the otter. It's way easier to pack quickly when you have to watch other people going into the air every 15 minutes or so. As an added bonus the groups are smaller --> less canopy traffic
  22. Go and talk to an army recruiter...I think that they will take anyone
