  1. I think that I might have the Cobalt almost figured out too. After several weeks of sucking finally a good swoop. Joe Reger...who has a very cool website www.joereger.com...posted my swoop cobalt 135 at 1.6 michael hunt (yes, that is my real name...and i've heard them all)
  2. Kinda unrelated but.... Abercrombie did a special on freeflying at skydive atlanta a few years back abercrombie michael hunt (yes, that is my real name...and i've heard them all)
  3. Skymaster? 293 Skymaster? 223 Triathalon 175 Cobalt 150 Cobalt 135 I have jumped many other 135's (stiletto, nitron, saphire, sabre) and a few 120's (Stiletto, Extreme FX). I plan on staying with the cobalt for at least another 300-500 jumps. michael hunt (yes, that is my real name...and i've heard them all)
  4. During my two-year stay in England I found that most of the food was very bland...which to me is nasty...but what can we expect from people who enjoy eating "Spotted Dick" anyone out there actually tried it? michael hunt (yes, that is my real name...and i've heard them all)
  5. Dude, it totally depends on the individual. There are some people who are naturals, and there are those who flail helplessly. First off, I think that most people try too much, too early. Just go out and have fun. When a jumper is comfortable in the air then they can get some advice from another jumper and do a bunch of solos and two ways. Then coaching can be a real plus. Also, do not be afraid to do solos. I believe that people will not make much progress towards becoming a competant freeflyer doing twoways with another person who cannot fall down the column. Chasing someone around is not much fun. michael hunt (yes, that is my real name...and i've heard them all)
  6. Clay, I think that you will do fine under a 170. But who am I to say...everyone chastized me for my canopy decisions...until they saw me fly. Being a student pilot and an all-around smart guy, you understand how a wing flies. Plus, at SA you have the advantage of getting your landing videotaped on every jump (thanks Tim) and getting advice from doug, trey, and woody. Just stay current and listen to what people tell you when you get your canopy. And stay current! michael hunt (yes, that is my real name...and i've heard them all)

    Audible's

I will start out by saying that you should NEVER rely on an audible to tell you when to pull. Eventually you will not hear it or it will not work. The next time you are at the DZ ask the skygods which of then has had a cypres fire. The number of expierienced jumpers that have had a cypres fire is very great. I guess I will tell my story...I had about 200 jumps and was becoming very comfortable flying headdown. Every jump I looked at my altimeter a few times but really waited for the audible to go off. The other thing that I unconciously started to do was look at the guy with 1000 jumps that I had been jumping with. When he broke off I broke off. Well one dive he broke off a little low...at about 3000-3500 feet. I was so confident in his abilities that I just started backtracking off without looking at my altimeter. When I turned and pitched I knew that I was low...but it was too late. After my main had deployed I felt the reserve pilot chute coming off of my back. The reserve deployed normally and I landed the two canopies in a bi-plane configuration. I learned the hard way. Sad to say, but most jumpers will eventually scare themselves at least once. Now I jump with a device called the wedge. I highly recommend it for freeflying! In any position you can see it without even turning your head...just look down. I will upload the video of the jump if anyone has any webspace...just let me know. michael hunt (yes, that is my real name...and i've heard them all)
  9. I will start by saying that everyone will learn in their own way...but for me it was much easier to learn to stand first. Maybe because your legs are strait and together, therefore you have less to think about. You control it with your arms and body position. Then I learned to bring my feet up and then to bring my feet apart. Worked for me. michael hunt (yes, that is my real name...and i've heard them all)
  10. Myself and freeflytim were in tuskegee national forest popping caps with my new gun and we saw a bag of Pure White Clay in the gas station for two dollars...had to buy it...apparently clay is pretty cheap!!! michael hunt (yes, that is my real name...and i've heard them all)
  11. I got a Triathalon 175 loaded at 1.2, but I recieved constant feedback and did 10 jumps on a 190 before getting the 175. I really just ended up getting a really good deal. Then I jumped the Triathalon for about 100 jumps and got a cobalt 150. Now I have about 400 jumps and am jumping a cobalt 135. Just goes to show how much canopy coaching can help. I had people like Tony, who jumps the cobalt 65 giving me advise the whole way. michael hunt (yes, that is my real name...and i've heard them all)
  12. I used to jump a triathalon and they are great canopies...they offer them in a hybrid version which gives you a retractable pilot chute and some of the other options check out thier website http://www.aerodyneusa.com/ michael hunt (yes, that is my real name...and i've heard them all)

  22. Better than most people jumping Safire's at 1.4 hooking it and better than stilleto's at 1.4 straight in! He needs a more high performance canopy! michael hunt (yes, that is my real name...and i've heard them all)
  23. I am sure the four of us could actually form a line or a round and hold it for three seconds. I guess we will have to try it! See you on Saturday...now you will have to talk Caryn into jumping. michael hunt (yes, that is my real name...and i've heard them all)
  24. Has anyone heard what the sitfly/headdown record is. We could easily get a fourway this weekend. Can anyone out there beat that? I guess it would be Clay, freeflytim, myself, skangel1, and if watcher would come out it would be five. The challenge has been layed down...are you going to do anything about it? michael hunt (yes, that is my real name...and i've heard them all)
  25. Read Clay's post...he wants to get a 170. We are just kind of ribbing him because I don't think that he would jump a 120 or 135 if we asked him to. Just kinda sucks that no one seems to own a 170 for long anymore, therefore there are none around. Some of us probably downsized too fast but there are usually reasons for that. In my case I had about 200 jumps and had been jumping a cobalt 150 for 110 jumps. Then my canopy sustained some damage and I decided against ordering another 150. I probably would have jumped the 150 for at least another 200 jumps but I have no problem handling the 135. Don't worry about Clay, we will not let anything bad happen to him! michael hunt (yes, that is my real name...and i've heard them all)
