  1. So the guy being investigated is doing the investigation?
  2. Amen to that brother. I made that mistake this weekend. Our last load on Saturday after all the work jumps was supposed to be a beach jump into a bar on Lake Michigan. We had a new pilot fly tandem loads all day long and we forgot to feed and water him. After the last tandem load he came out of the plane looking all green and sweating his ass off. He said he felt like he was going to throw up and couldn't fly anymore so we got screwed out of our beach jump. I'm pretty sure it was because we didn't take good enough care of him. It's weird that one of the people you need the most is the easiest to forget about when it gets busy. Pilots, if you need something, please say so!
  3. I don't see why this incident would affect whatever office he was elected to. Yeah, I think he's an idiot and a hypocrite for trying to impose extra rules on wingsuiters while he's off swooping crowds like an asshole but he was elected to the board because enough people like the way he represents them. I don't think any one person should have the authority to over ride that. If the people he represents want him out they will vote him out. He should face the exact same consequences as anyone else w ho fucked up the way he did. Nothing more and nothing less. Was there even a bsr violation?
  4. We've been keeping it at 15" mp and 2200 rpm and descending at 120 for 2 min then 140 for 2 min then 150 the rest of the way down. It's a '57 182a so no cowel flaps. We never let the hottest cylinder get over 420 on the way up. Had 2 cracked cylinders at the last 100hr. How do you guys do it?
  5. I've seen it twice where someones main popped open in the plane. Both times they took off the rig and closed it back up without pulling the pc out of the pouch. Both times the people ended up with a pc in tow.
  6. That hasn't been my experience at all. I think in general the skydiving related companies provide way better service than in the regular world. Every company I've dealt with in this industry has been great. Tonysuits, Strong, Nitro Rigging, Paragear, Sunpath, Square 1, The Polish dude in the classifieds, and tons of others have all been fantastic. I can't really think of any that suck.

We are aa student focused dz but we'll do all we can to get funjumpers up too.
  9. The student is wearing a hard helmet. It could have knocked his teeth out!
  10. Drop out of college. Buy a tent and move to the dz. Help out picking up trash, cleaning toilets and performing sexual favors for jumps until someone teaches you to pack. Then you pack your ass off for a while and buy some cheap gear. Live on Ramen noodles and put all your money into jumps. Then you get some instructor rating and a riggers ticket and you're good! It's easy.
  11. I have one that I'm a little hesitant to tell. I'm almost ashamed of it, but there was a lot that lead up to it. One time, when I used to pour concrete, I pooped in a guys glove. He got the bobcat stuck and went to put his glove on and stuck his hand right in it. It got all up under his nails and everything. As soon as he smelled it and realized what it was he instantly threw up. Then another guy started laughing about it so the dude whips the glove at him. I was young and living on draft beer and McDonald's back then so it was pretty loose so when he threw it the poop went flinging everywhere. It hit the guy and got all in his hair. There ended up being poop and barf all over the jobsite. It was nasty.
  12. When I was a corporate stooge the guy in the cubicle next to me left his computer logged in at lunch so I sent out a company wide "coming out of the closet" email from him.
  13. I didn't know that. Thanks. I found it.
  14. I'm hoping to get some advice from people with experience in local politics. I'd like to get on our county's Board of Commissioners this November. Anybody got a guess at how much I'd have to spend to win an election like that?
  15. About 3800 jumps in 18 years with 7 reserve rides. 3 on tandems (two of them were back to back) 1 was a lost pud on a borrowed pull out rig with shitty velcro 3 were hp canopies with a wingsuit
  16. I would hope that an incident as described happens to someone who has deep enough pockets to litigate the matter. The entire business of employers being able to drug test employees is constitutionally wrong. An employer rents your services for part of the time. Employers have no business trying to regulate what one does on one's own time. The worst part about "drug testing" is that the results are bullshit. The bad stuff, like heroin, barbiturates, cocaine, etc, all metabolize out of your system in about 48 hours. The least harmful drug, marijuana, has metabolites that show up for weeks after the ingestion. In no way does the effect of the drug match the test results. If drug tests are acceptable, why aren't ALL employees subject to them, including all management, right up to the corporate officers? The employees should be able to select which management is tested. Slavery is supposed to be illegal. How is allowing employers to control what you do on your own time any different than slavery? I have to disagree with you. I spent over a decade working for AT&T where I had to be able to pass a drug test. Their company, their rules. When they legalized medical marijuana over here in 2008 I quit and opened an indoor gardening store and we wouldn't hire anyone who couldn't test positive for marijuana. My company, my rules. Big brother should have no say in it. Don't like the rules? Don't work there.
  17. It looks like we're going to have ethanol free auto gas available to us next season. My plane already has the stc for it, but I've never actually tried it. It costs 4.15/gal vs. 5.65 for 100LL. Anyone know of any reason I shouldn't use it? Anyone using it with good results? Thanks in advance.
  18. At least they took him to a doctor. In Texas they just do their cavity searches right on the side of the road. http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/01/30/16769883-texas-set-to-terminate-trooper-following-roadside-cavity-searches?lite
  19. I might do the groupon tandems for half pay, but I'd also want a cut of the money from the ones that paid but never redeemed their groupon. I'd also want the opportunity to make side deals on handcam video with the ones that didn't order it up front.
  20. Seems like a good idea, but what do you tell them when they show up with their own gopro? Do you let them take it? Do you still make anything off it?
  21. Why would yo ask this? How is the Hobbs connected to the oil pressure switch or the E bus? Can yo do anything about this??? Why are yo asking us as compared with the rental aircraft owner? You have just held up a sign.... C I suggest you take this particular aspect of this question to the student pilot section on the AOPA site.... Not being sarchastic or nasty here, just ending a conversation that you can't do anything about...when renting aircraft.... In the long run it really dosn't matter, shopping for rentals based upon how the meter is connected isn't going to save any cash.... I asked because I'm thinking about renting out my 182 while I'm not using it over the winter and I was curious what others thought a fair rate would be.. And the Hobbs spins faster than the tach so it would make a difference in the rate. What was it about the question that got your panties all in a wad?
  22. Thanks for the reply. Was that $130 on the tach or hobbs?
  23. What's a fair rental rate for a 182? It's a 57 182A with an O470 and no wingx. Thanks,
  24. We just did one of these for IAD jumps. So far we've picked up over 100 new students and there's still a couple days left on it. They pay about $110 each and we get about $78 of it. That's $230/load to 4000ft. Not bad for .5hrs on the plane. Plus we can upsell them on video/stills. That could easily be an extra $100/load. It doesn't suck that bad. I'm not going to get rich off it, but it'll keep the plane spinning and we're gonna make a whole bunch of new skydivers. I know we'd make more money if we'd "do our own marketing" and I'm planning on taking some classes over the winter to learn how, but for now at least we're not just another bunch of skyride taking tandem factory carnies.
