  1. Hmm....after being tazed, the suspect grabbed one of the officers' batons and punched him in the face. Sounds justified to me. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
  2. I trust that I'm not the only one that sees media bias in this video? Having lived in West Virginia most of my life, I've seen my share of slanted hillbilly videos and news stories. As I sit here next to the NASA building working as a mechanical engineer, I can only hope that some misguided news reporter will eventually stumble upon MY little section of West Virginia for a non-redneck perspective. 3. Comparing homosexual marriage to the interracial marriage issues in the 1900's is like comparing apples to oranges. Is it just me, or do some people (Bill) find a way to interject race into as many threads as possible? I am against homosexual marriage because I feel it is morally (not necessarily "biblically") wrong, it is unnatural, it is a financial burden on our government (taxes, social security, medical, and other benefits paid to the "spouse"), and it devalues traditional heterosexual marriages. In addition, I feel the increased acceptance of homosexuality does increase the likelihood of young adults choosing that lifestyle, especially those with identity issues. I am willing to bet there are many more like me, as 61% of Californians voted against homosexual marriage a few years ago. We all have our opinions, but I still respect the opinions of others who disagree with me. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
  4. Another sad day for those who value morals.... We might as well expand the definition of marriage to include animals, small children, and multiple spouses. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
  5. Sorry, I watched the video twice and disagree with most of it. People have always been judged by the company they keep. For the last 20 years, Obama has been hanging out with racist Rev. Wright. Does that not say something? God-damn America........the American government developed AIDS to destroy black people.....blah, blah, blah. Rev. Wright is a scumbag. Continually blaming white people for your problems is not the solution. Perhaps if we stopped labeling everyone "white" or "black", we'd begin to make progress..... (c)2010 Vertical Visions. 6. And here's a great example of exactly what you're talking about: U.S. Nanowire Lithium-ion Battery Expert Gets a $10 Million Grant…From Saudi Arabia (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
  7. I'm having a hard time finding where McCain or the GOP actually said "Screw You". A little help please, Professor? I used to work at a job where the pay was lousy and I didn't make as much as some of the women there. I simply got a new job elsewhere..... (c)2010 Vertical Visions. 8. If you're worried about the bottom line, then you shouldn't buy an electric car - especially the Chevy Volt. If you want to lessen our addiction to oil and spur new solar/wind/battery technologies, then keep your eye on several upcoming electric vehicles. A side effect of increased use of electric vehicles is a reduced demand for oil. I can see a situation where electric vehicles become fairly popular, then gas prices drop due to low demand, and finally everyone will be happy again with their gas guzzlers. So, please don't rush to get in line behind me to buy the Chevy Volt. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
  9. Coal is not the only source for electricity (wind, nuclear, hydro, solar, etc.). I'm not sure about the cleanliness of coal vs. oil, but I'm sure anyone can manipulate the data to their advantage. Everyone needs to watch "Who Killed The Electric Car", an excellent documentary outlining the demise of the EVI electric car less than a decade ago. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. 10. Here's a guaranteed solution to high gas prices and I'm ready to buy one NOW: http://www.chevrolet.com/electriccar And more info is here: http://gm-volt.com My early calculations for the cost to drive 1 mile in the following vehicles (using West Virginia's electricity rates and gas at $3.69/gallon): 2011 Chevy Volt: 1.5 cents 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid: 9.5 cents 2002 Chevy Express Van: 25 cents Forget biofuels and Exxon boycotts. Get a Chevy Volt in late 2010 that'll go 40 miles on a charge and 650 miles total range using the onboard generator (gas engine). You probably drive less than 40 miles a day anyway, which means you'd use NO gas. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

  12. I don't necessarily believe that the parents should be charged with a crime. However, I don't know all the facts since my only source of information is this thread. My main fear is that the government or law enforcement will eventually imprison us for things like not vaccinating our kids, smoking near them, feeding them foods with trans fats, homeschooling them, allowing them to jump on my trampoline, etc. Gov't is becoming too powerful. 14. Creating a hazard or nuisance is vague, which leaves it to the ranger to decide your fate (if he's even legally able to). If you took precautions to insure no vehicles or foot traffic would be affected by your parachute landing, you weren't creating a hazard or nuisance. Your video evidence and/or groundcrew's testimony might get you off the hook, showing you didn't affect anyone and that you exhibited good judgment. Then again, I don't see how a BLM ranger can enforce Dept of Interior CFR's on a state road. I'd fight that charge all the way and set a precedent. There have been too many instances of rangers twisting the laws in their favor (mechanized transport in wilderness areas, for example). Good luck. PS. Ask Rick Harrison (USBA). He might be able to help. PPS. New River NPS made a jurisdiction agreement with CSX, who owns the railroad tracks below the bridge, reportedly in order to lawfully arrest base jumpers who landed there. There are lots of behind the scenes deals going on, unfortunately. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
  15. How are you averaging 41-43 MPG with the Yaris when the sticker says 29/35 MPG? Just curious.... (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
  16. I wish there was an engineering union that could whine on my behalf as much as our local teachers do, because I don't make six figures. And I work all year long...... Teachers should know by now that they're not going to get rich in their profession. If enough teachers realized this, supply would drop and salaries would increase. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. 17. It's just a bird. Big deal. Humans kill and eat birds everyday (chickens, turkeys, etc.). I had chicken for lunch, by the way. Tasty. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

  19. I always wondered where the "Robin Hood" mentality came from on the Democratic side. If I work hard, spend a decade in college, and eventually make a lot of money, why should I have to pay a larger tax percentage? EDIT: Don't dig too deep into Robin Hood's victims, please. He stole from the rich and gave to the poor and that, alone, is the concept that I despise. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
  20. A better alternative would be to offer large tax credits to anyone driving a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) or extended range electric vehicle (EREV) such as the upcoming 2010 Chevy Volt. It's too bad your government wants to penalize you and make $ in the process rather than effectively promoting new technologies or offering tax credits for driving the above new vehicles. 21. My wife almost died a few years ago after waiting 6 hours in severe pain due to an ectopic pregnancy . They rushed her into emergency surgery a few hours later (just in time). Last year, my two year old had a bleeding gash in her forehead. When we approached the ER front desk, blood dripping everywhere and my daughter screaming her head off, no one was at the front desk to help. We waited several minutes before anyone even came to take our names to get on the "list" to be seen. As much as we pay for medical care, one would think that the lines would be shorter. You can partially blame it on people who don't pay their hospital bills, knowing that the hospital will simply write it off as a loss. After what we went through, I'll call an ambulance next time. 22. Kudos to the store owner for posting the video online. I've caught so many bad guys on camera around my house and car that I can't remember them all. In 2002 after several vandalisms, I caught a 17-year old rich kid vandalizing my home while under construction. After his influential father got him off the hook, I did an interview with Home Automation magazine and they agreed to post a screen grab from the vandalism in their magazine along with a story about my smart home. So the rich kid got his mug in a national magazine. Last year, I caught a guy on video trying to break into my car. He also smashed windows and stole a lot of money from other vehicles in the neighborhood. Video was turned over to police, aired on local TV stations, and the guy was eventually caught. If you mess with my house or car and I catch you on video, YOU HAVE NO RIGHTS. I'll gladly put your face out there for everyone to see....
  23. To elaborate, your use of a reward card costs the merchant more (+.25% and up) compared to your use of a normal credit card. Since the merchant must give up to 4% of each transaction to Visa/MC/Amex, these costs are ultimately passed on to you. Only the credit card companies win...... (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
  24. The world is being sucked into using credit cards for everything. It sounds great that you're getting 1-2% back on each gas/grocery transaction using your rewards card, but did you realize that the merchant is taking the hit for your "reward"? Yep, your use of a reward card costs the merchant more in credit card fees, which is passed on to you. So who really wins here? AMEX, Mastercard, and Visa. Not you. PS. I just got another letter from my merchant account provider - Visa/Mastercard reward card fees are going up again. It's a yearly thing. (c)2010 Vertical Visions.
