  1. pictures or recommendations? moving into house from apartment. Also live in florida, would storing my rig in the garage be a bad idea with the heat?
  2. thanks to everyone for info and advice. before going to the tunnel I would really struggle with slower people. now after the tunnel and learning a different technique, I am able to match fall rate with people I couldn't, so my intention of the post was more directed at why aren't we being taught this right away. I wish I would have had the going flat technique sooner in my training
  3. jumping with people my experience or less lately, often means there is a lot of work trying to match fall rate. I have a pretty quick fall rate so am usually the one slowing down. As a student I was taught the "beach ball" method to try and cup as much air as possible. I have been going to the tunnel recently and they teach extending your arms and getting straight which in the sky has translated great and was able to use it over the weekend. going straight also seems to allow me more control to keep flying as well. maybe this technique just works better for me but I was curious as to why as a student they teach to cup air as opposed to getting straight and if other people had similar results
  4. ok I am an idiot but that is exactly what I was looking for thanks
  5. does anyone have or can point me in the direction of where I can find a breakdown/diagram of a main canopy w/ all the lines. I will be working with my DZO to become a packer and would like a better understanding of everything. thanks

  7. this. ever time I have a few jumps and think I am getting better I will have a very humbling jump that reminds me I suck. I found the tunnel very helpful. just stick with it and it will all be beneficial when it all starts to click
  8. not to hijack the thread but I am saving up for a new custom container and trying to decide what to go with. with wings, javelin, vector it is easy to find pictures of rigs to get an idea of what they look like. with the curv it is not so easy. I have only seen one at the dz and the orange and grey one they use for advertising. can any one post a pic of theres... thanks
  9. i agree the podcasts are good and the discussions in the podcasts have made me think about things I was not thinking about... which in turn has led me to better understand those things. With out the podcasts or threads on this forum I may never have thought about the difference between hard deck and decision altitude. any way I really enjoy the podcasts so keep them coming sandy
  10. this was my impression right off student status as well and that combined with the discussion on the podcast I heard is what prompted me to start the "hard deck" thread. in episodes following the podcast I mentioned they brought up the difference between hard deck and decision altitude, after they said they had many questions regarding the difference. so it seems to me that many other besides you and I have confusion with these terms
  11. I agree I am not chasing anything (including my own freebag or canopy) into an off landing unless I am very sure I can do it safely. maybe that will change with more experience and skill down the road but my focus after opening is to get to the ground safely and uninjured
  12. I started a similar thread a few months back wondering about things like you just described http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4686814;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread may be helpful for you ETA: already mentioned above
  13. so it seems most recommend the tunnel for learning backflying/sitflying, I am pretty close to ifly Orlando so I can go there. I have ten minutes in the tunnel (all on belly), 69 jumps mostly belly w/ 5 jumps backflying on my own and 3 attempting to sit (1 with a coach). My question is, does anyone having any recommendations for good tunnel coaches to get the most for my money. PM if preferred. Thanks for the help and any other advice is welcome

    Scam Alert

usually this response should be a red flag. I would think most people would respond with hey I am interested in your vector, or hey I am interested in your rig, or hey I saw your ad and was wondering....

  16. I know nothing about this rig, but is it possible he will actually sell it to you. but the reason for no serial number is it maybe stolen. this is not an accusation just a heads up to any one
  17. I agree with sky mama. I payed the 1200 for AFF then went broke trying to pay for coach jumps and gear rental every week. I stopped jumping for about 4 months saved every penny I could. then finished my A license got all my own gear and had money left over to keep jumping for last 5 weekends. Whenever someone gets "hooked" after tandem my advice is to have to money so you can go at it 100%.
  18. or instead of complaining about the parents who come in late and leave early, be the employee who volunteers to come in early and leave late. make it known that your the one employee who is very flexible and will pick up the slack when needed. do this while working your ass off for six months to a year and you will become invaluable to your employer/manager and will be rewarded for it. (has happened to me in every job I have had and whenever I decided to leave I was offered increase in pay or PTO or both to stay) And then the parent employees would complain about how I was the golden employee and could do no wrong in front of the manager

  20. I may be misunderstanding your point but are you saying it is a distraction for a child to be interested in the history of our earth? ( the real one proven by fossil evidence) and I am sure in elementary school dinosaurs are not the only thing distracting students. My issue would be telling them if they don't believe a certain belief they will burn in eternity. non believers dont have such a "threat"
