  1. I made the initial comment about pissing off a liberal but it was quoting a man in line at the theatre. the point of my post was that I found it funny that he was there just too piss off the liberals, if you picture an 80+ year old grumpy guy saying this its kinda funny I did not go see it for that reason but because I had nothing better to do. as I said earlier im pretty neutral I have liberal views and conservative views I just find the extremists on either side amusing and this old man was one of them
  2. I agree, not necessarily names but a small dz and large dz can have very different vibes and different types of advice may be given for each. I have jumped at large and small and find it a bit easier to "break through" at the smaller one ETA: and I clearly have to real skills to offer yet
  3. do you jump at a big dz or small? what state or dz?
  4. i saw the movie over the weekend... while in line an older gentleman says, " I have not been to a movie in 2 years... I'm just hear to piss off the liberals." I wouldn't consider myself far right or left but this made me laugh
  5. if it's fun, when you can't stand up a landing, or can't exit or fall stable at 500 jumps, then OK if it really is like this you will be number 1 in no time
  6. ***[, watching others while jumping, who can afford anything and you see they're don't want to step up, don't want to develop their skills, its just disappointing. its there money if they just want to have fun instead of becoming a pro skydiver or #1 in the country ( is that a thing in skydiving?) that is their choice
  7. guess he will have to pay his dues and get his license i can always hook him up with some jump tickets or my old gear
  8. This is a weird hypothetical question and wont apply to me for a long time if ever. anyway... imagine an AFFI has a close friend who has decided to start skydiving. the AFFI decides he is going to wave his instructor fees and pay for his slots on the plane to help the friend out and just wants to jump with his friend at beginning of his skydiving career. My question is if they decide to do this at a DZ where the AFFI is not necessarily an employee or a full time one, would it be considered rude to be taking potential income from that DZ's instructors. i ask because i have a friend who is a scuba instructor and runs a fishing/spearfishing charter. he has trained me and taken me on many trips for next to nothing. If i am ever skilled enough to be an AFFI i would like to return the favor (he has already expressed his desire to skydive down the road) also i understand i have along way to go before i can consider being an AFFI so please don't burn me on that just curious

I do not know if the story is true or not but both sides have weighed in and this is the liberal side of the story. Yes, sadly politics play a role in how this story is reported. i very much support the military especially special operations and think ventura is a kook and i would love for the story to be true. i would imagine if it where true there would be plenty of eye witness accounts from other seals backing it up and that would have swayed the jury differently... that being said i am very uninformed and if presented with facts supporting kyles story i would much rather believe his side

  11. im not sure at all about this but I thought I remember hearing that the lawsuit was still going after kyles death and that ventura changed it to go after his wife following his death. Any one know if that is true and what part it plays in the whole situation.

    Name a beer

something along the lines of "My first stout" When you say ill have "my first stout" then you owe beer... a never ending beer cycle.
  13. i am new to the sport and packing was the first real frustration I have had in skydiving. I got my own rig a few weeks ago and everynight when I got home I would pull out the canopy and practice packing. when I first started I thought packers used some kinda magic to fit the canopy in the bag with out fucking it up. with practice it has become very easy and I am packing myself after every jump... just keep at it
  14. i have not had this done but i am a physical therapist assistant and have seen many patients with that procedure and many end up better off after the procedure. the key as mentioned above is being very diligent with your rehab (and having a good surgeon). in my opinion (not knowing too much about you) it is very possible to skydive after this procedure it may just be awhile depending on how your rehab goes. good luck!
  15. thinking about going to ifly Orlando for my first time in a wind tunnel soon. was wondering if its best to just sign up and go and they will take care of me or should I seek out a coach who specifically teaches new skydivers. thanks for any advice
  16. i did my aff at a bigger Florida dz and am a student now jumping at SD southwest Florida.. they are great and they offer aff jumps. they are a smaller dz so you will have the same coaches on all your jumps and they will remember between each jump how you did instead of relying on your logbook I highly recommend but I am sure you will get good training wherever you decide to go only downside for you is sd southwest florida only open Thursday through sunday I believe

    hard deck

thanks for the responses they are helping clear things up. especially the difference between decision altitude and hard deck ( seemed like they could be the same if interpreted wrong)

    hard deck

What if you have 5 broken lines? What if you have tension knots? What if you have a torn cell but the canopy is holding together? i guess if your below your hard deck with problems like these as a beginner you've already blown past the safety precuations to prevent this so you have to make some hard decisions and do the best you can with your situation

    hard deck

listening to the jump twenty six podcast they mentioned that if you have passed your hard deck with a mal that you should pull your reserve with out cutting away. my understanding was more along the lines of your hard deck being the decision to either cut away or ride the main down. I am sure there is not a black and white answer and it depends on the mal and I will bring it up to my instructor this weekend but was just curious to any opinions on that subject
  20. i started listening yesterday after I saw this post. I find it great being a newb with so many questions about the sport
  21. when I graduated aff my instructor told me aff was to teach me how to not die and now I could jump by myself or with an instructor until I learned how to not kill others. that made it pretty clear who I could jump with
  22. and if you are in florida vote yes on 2 for medical marijuana
  23. i heard a saying before about walking across a wooden plank on the ground with no problems at all. put that same plank on top of two ladders suddenly it becomes much harded to cross. maybe this applies here
