  1. Hasn't anyone here read the worst case scenario handbook? That story came came directly from it. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

  3. I'm not exactly deserving of such a low number so you should give it out to someone who's been hugged before me ... I've been hugged a few times. Being picked up like a child was not exactly expected but it was awesome! My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  4. I've yet to see freeflaw do anything terribly dangerous so read his comments as you will
  5. Wing loading is for landing info not openings. You will find this hard to believe but: if you double the wing load you will only increase the opening force by 10%. This guy has a line dump problem. If a canopy opens soft once all one needs to do is control the variables and it will open soft every time. I seriously doubt line dump is the culprit. If the canopy opens nice some times, control the slider by proper canopy management so it doesn't let the slider pa t way down allowing air past it to cause rapid expansion of the bottom skin. Unless that bag is being stripped off the parachute right out of the container, which is unlikely, it will not effect the opening in a normal deployment. Keep the bag shut till line stretch. Done. The rest is either canopy design or material management during packing. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  6. 3 or 4 out of how many?you did say brand new, so it stands to reason that it is more difficult for you to pack.if losing a little bit of control as you stuff it into the bag causes the slider to come down even a little bit, you will experience very hard openings. 7. Probably typing from his phone. Obviously captain And very poorly at best. This is from my phone and I'm not good at words, so if I'm making fun of him, it can't be good :) My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  8. Correct. He said he unwound himself in time to escape injuries. By the time the canopy opened, he wasn't tangled in it. He doesn't need to take up bowling unless he wants to. He got away with it so rather than severe injuries, he was educated on gear and his own actions instead. Edit: Because I posted from my phone and didn't proofread it :). 10. I was first to vote NO! (I am stupid, I have no friends and am generally useless) Which is basically true but the real answer to s silly question is yes .... I would definitely like to see more of them. I do wish I had all my hours of video to make a progression compilation. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  11. A brand new one is here at my place. Just looking the over, I am convinced it's going to do the same thing. I'll give it to the owner and show him what to expect. He has 2 rigs which is good. I believe this one will need to be returned later this season. It is what I believe, a flaw in design, and I'm surprised the Icon is still made that way. I see the manufacturer has responded. This rig looks pretty good. It's much nicer than earlier rigs. The tuck flaps do appear that they will wear like the photos in the first post. I will keep my eye on this one and post about it when I see plastic. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

  14. I didn't think so. There are some DZs in the area where the skill is minimal but it is definitely on the upswing at most of them. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  15. He'd strongly not be allowed to jump that If there's a way to smooth out the back edge, then it's much less of an issue but... Given that it's so simple to put on the top, I see no common sense shown from a jumper who puts it on the side with all snag points available. It's clearly a bad design the way it's shown. 16. San Francisco Bay Area about 30 miles from SF. If you actually chose to come up here, let me know. I have a younger brother in Austin. When I finally get a chance to visit, I'll be hitting up the new Tunnel :) My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  17. Come up here for a visit. There is no shortage of skilled flyers. Maybe in your area due to whatever... but it's strong here and many other places. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  18. If it fits you, keep it. 5'0" can be a challenge when finding a rig to fit. My rig is from 2003. It's an Infinity. They have changed only slightly. Javelins have changed only slightly as well. No need to upgrade when there's nothing to upgrade. Good luck! My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  19. We just grab the arm gripper. I have never done an AFF jump with a suit with no arm gripper. Occasionally The arm gripper is hidden on exit due to the student's position in the door. When that occurs, I just take the harness at the shoulder. It's above the 3 ring so it's no issue. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

  21. That rivalry is nonexistent to proficient flyers. I highly encourage you to do bad ass multi point 2 and 4 ways on your belly. Believe it or not, you need some of those skills in freeflying. Also, to learn how to safely dive down, approach, and dock on a formation, is easier learn at belly speeds rather than going full blast through a barely built zoo head down dive. I'll do a belly way any day. Freefly skills help me belly fly but belly skills help me belly fly even more. Most of our freeflyers where I jump can fly quite well on their belly. I'm a freeflyer and unless I am doing AFF, I usually freefly. I still do belly jumps and love it if I get in with people who can belly fly better than I can. 22. True. But, guess what. Same goes for belly flyers not being able to dock well or safely. I agree that freeflyers need to be good (enough) belly flyers and it definitely happens how it's being presented here but ..... I am often mind boggled when I watch belly fliers with *many*many*many* jumps that can't perform basic fall rate control on a 2 point 6 way. I noticed you italicized the words don't always in your post so I know we are in agreement. BTW to all my fellow Freeflyers. You pretty much NEED to be able to fly well on your belly. If you can't, then practice. You might just have some fun doing it. We very often incorporate belly points in our vertical dives so get good at it. .... Some day I will be an expiring freeflyer.... 24. You have 130 jumps. If you're actually a decent tunnel flier, go do some dive practice. Leave a second or so after the skilled coach, and dive out and chase him. Do fall rate and tracking dives. Do fall rate and movement drills with good freefliers. Do learn about proper equipment. Do be aware of your crummy canopy control skills and learn the progression methodically. If you don't want to be that guy, don't believe you can fly a parachute with low jump numbers. Don't do big ways ... yet. Start small just like every one should. You still need to learn proper approach, slot flying, dock taking, and most of all proper break off. Proper break offs should be drilled into everyone. Don't think you're actually good at what you're not good at yet. Where I jump, we have an exceptional talent pool. It's not from low or even high jump numbers. It's proper training and caring about it. As the jumpers progress in both the tunnel and sky, the better they jumps go. You won't be that guy unless you're already that guy . In other words, you're still newb whether you can out fly me in the tunnel or not. I know a PHENOMENAL tunnel flyer. He can do big ways safely due to everyone around him being skilled as well. It's rather funny to watch him fly and land his 170 spectre. He stays clear of everyone in the pattern due to proper training. Another thing I like, is he knows his air skills are exceptional and clearly understands his place in the canopy control world. BTW comfortably taking docks head up and head down are pretty basic skills. I do that with low time jumpers all the time. You're still new but have a slightly advanced set of air skills. That's all. Go have fun. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  25. So, my neatly packed canopy takes 5 minutes to pack at a leisurely pace. Without cleaning up the insides, it takes almost the same time but its more work to close the bag, and the container. Its not a waste of time. It is FAR easier to teach new skydivers bulk distribution by packing as perfect as can be. Teach how to keep the lines in the center at the same time. Sooner or later, the skydiver packs in 15 minutes or less and doesn't crumple up the canopy, and its simply easier to manage. It's not a matter if function, but calling it a waste of time is kinda stupid. I have a pull out pilot chute with a shit ton of jumps on it. I never crumple it up like most folks with pull outs. Mine compared to a co-skydiver's is in much better condition. PS, my reserve pack jobs don't have the result of a crumpled up center cell. I distribute the center cell into the folds. The nose gets dressed during the S-fold. Why some riggers have wrinkly pack jobs in general, does not make a lot of sense to me. (Another PS. Typing with thumbs on a phone takes a long time so I'm leaving the typos.) My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
