  1. Were you replying to me on purpose? She's clearly a student. My post states there's nothing inherently wrong with using radios. Be smart about how they're used. I'm not one to tell you, (the general you) how to be smart about it. My comment was in regards to the radio slam by neonlights. Statements like the one I replied to, are short sighted and don't offer a any reason. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  2. I'll pack and jump your rig next week if you're there. We'll sort it out if there is a gear issue. If you don't go next weekend, arrange for me to get your rig. I could use a second rig for the day anyway I've looked at this rig and there is nothing obvious. The canopy is distributed well and it's not over stuffed in anyway. When you're able, I'll watch you pack just so I know exactly what you do. I know you pack fine however I've never watched directly so let's do that and I'll go take a beating for you :D My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  3. Seems as if the somewhat "larger" ones are less temperamental. I say "larger" cuz 135 isn't exactly a big canopy. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  4. Safire2 Good opening. Great flight and landing characteristics. Kinda Swoopy :) Crossfire2 Good Opening Great flight and landing characteristics. Turns quicker glides REALLY well and can be very swoopy :) :) The Nitron is actually fun too. It opens well, and flares great. I'm surprised at how much I liked this when I borrowed it a bunch. The first one was called the Jalapeno! You have the experience to fly either one. Just jump something, anything you can of appropriate size. Do that until you get the canopy you want. Vengeance... .don't bother. It was a nice try and discontinued quickly. Ground hungry and flies like a box. Katana. Sporadic and often uncomfortable openings on all 3 sizes I jumped. sometimes they opened fine. They sink out of the sky really fast. They dive real easy and flare like a typical 9 cell. Skip it. My suggestion would be the Crossfire2 unless you wish to go Crossbraced and then JFX is the one to go for. We can wait a bit on that one. I'll still be happy to talk offline about any and all of this with you. Ps, if it wasn't you, I was probably going to skip answering this thread ... It's just a forum so they can flame away, it doesn't actually hurt. :) My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  5. I'm not even going to finish reading. katana is NOT the canopy for you. Either get another stiletto or get something like a Crossfire2. They are fun to fly and can deal with much higher wingloads and actually do quite well and lighter medium loading. The Katana is a ground hungry, inconsistent opening canopy that dives but has much less flare power than it should. I have PLENTY of jumps on a Katana. I won't recommend them to anyone. People who like them, like them because it's what they have ... and now it's time to flame me for that comment If you want more of an opinion, I'll be glad to talk to you offline. 20 bucks times 10 tandems in a day ... plus the pay tandem instructors get. Yeah, I should do Tandems but I prefer getting fewer jumps and then nothing from AFF students My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  7. I think I know world champions that had radios on a jump or 2. They have their place. Back up devices aren't a bad thing. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  8. ... I now weigh 150lbs so what should a 49 yr old with mad skills really be flying? Read my profile. Fly that Really though, at your jump numbers and previous choice, Safire2 129 or even a Crossfire2 129. Get on a 135 something other than spectre after a few jumps ,then try one out. You'll be pleasantly surprised. Welcome back. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

  10. I sent that to a friend at work cuz she was complaining about the crummy writing utensil that was provided. She would not click on it no matter how much I assured her what it was for. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

  12. His harness was made with extra wide legstraps and heavier padding. They were eventually modified to be a full saddle to sit in. The harness had an extra set of rings under the usual 3 rings to allow him to lift his legs and clip them in. I don't know when he finally sold it but I saw it again recently at Actionair in Davis. Dan was a very good instructor, especially when it came to Tandems and landing. Since he was an ace at slide ins with a passenger, he could easily set his own ass down and slide in on the grass without a passenger. 17. I think you're wrong about that and fail to see how it appears to be so over stuffed. The rig looks new. The loop is long by several inches. I doubt it's so stuffed that someone who knows how to close a rig properly couldn't close the flaps normally. It's a Javelin. So often people don't mash the D-Bag under the closing loop prior to closing the bottom flap. (hard to explain and I don't have a javelin near me to show it) I (and you I'm sure) see people struggle and struggle to close a rig yet you can do it with ease and shorten the loop by a couple inches. You must have noticed the bridle is under the loop? It certainly doesn't go there! I would be curious what size rig and what size canopies are in it. 18. elaborate please? The selection of equipment is fine. It's misrigged and the closing loop is clearly too long. I doubt it's actually so tight of a fit it needs to be 3 extra inches long. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  19. It's not so much it went under the flap. He may have noticed that since he would have hid the bridle from view. The loop is so long, he pulled the loop over the top of the bridle with the bridle still in plain view. I'm rather impressed at what I see in that photo My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  20. How did you find out about the t-rex with hats? That's pretty funny. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  21. I just wash the entire thing. Dunk it in a sink, or shower, and clean it with the soap you prefer. Wash it and rinse it thoroughly, mash as much water out of it as you can with a towel, then hang it up. As the water pools inside the helmet, mash that part again to soak up more water, then turn the helmet on the hangarl. If you can point a fan into it, that helps immensely. Good luck. 22. Stiletto is the most fun flying canopy however I'd still go with a Crossfire2 due to its landings and opening characteristics. The Stiletto turns fast, handles like a dream but it takes some dialing in to swoop the shit out of it. Its a shorter recovery arc so if its for swooping, you certainly can but be prepared to scare anyone watching
  23. Read into that a little more because I meant, Some, not all. Some that worked fine were still a bit off quality wise. It doesn't really matter now since they were purchased by Aerodyne. I still wouldn't front riser an SR-71 I've jumped a tempo on a borrowed rig. It was fine. I know how to fly canopies with short control strokes since I used to jump Micro Ravens. It even had all the cross ports and no built in turn. At least I don't think it had a turn because I only flew it once. I spiraled down and hooked it in right where the main landed. The gelvenor fabric was bulky but easy to work with for sure. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  24. You're wrong though. Some designs are fine. Why the hell did you up this particular thread? OH that's not true either due to the fact that MANY of them slammed open and the nose wanted to fold under if you pulled on the front risers. People now don't know that nifty feature. Pisa used to make a fair amount of shit canopies. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
