  1. Thanks Bill! Exactly what i wanted to know! http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk
  2. Is anybody jumping this lens yet? Just wondering how wide it is - i know the specs say 0.5 but these numbers seem to be incresingly meaningless! I want something slightly wider than a raynox 3032 HD (which seems very narrow to me for a 0.3)- and i have a friend in NY next week who can pick me one up! I use a HC-5, CX105 Thanks for any comments! gary http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk
  3. A tandem from a couple of weeks ago - sorry if you are all tired of seeing tandems - after doing so much 4 way for the last couple of years i'm really enjoying filming tandems again! http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk
  4. I glued a 72mm - 77mm step up ring on the end of my raynox 0.3 to add a filter. It was more for the fact that the lens seemed to fog up a lot in the UK (its cold here!) than for protection. In certain conditions I do see a lot of flare but it doesn't fog up now. http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk
  5. I never used a box until I got a HC-5. Initially i just mounted it with a stroboframe and a strap for extra support. After less than 10 jumps I noticed 3 cracks on the bottom of the camera coming from the tripod hole so i put it in a box. I noticed the same issue on a friends HC-5 http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk
  6. Not sure if this is on topic or not? On my old TRV70 that I only used for 4 way last year, I had to turn the EIS off when used with a Royal 0.3 otherwise the image was too shaky. A bit odd as this is an EIS camera as far as I know? http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk
  7. My old PC10 and TRV10 both had it... Showing my age now! http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk
  8. Does anybody have a contact email for BJ Worth? http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk
  9. I'm right eye dominant but have my sight over my left following Normans advice and don't have any issues. http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk
  10. I've done some more jumps with this lens now. Heres what i've found; On my TRV60E the image is much better with the IS turned off (the image is fine with the IS on with other lenses) On a PC10E (yes i still have one!) the image is much better with the IS off (again its fine with the IS on with my other lenses) On a HC5E the image is fine with IS on or off. All of these cams have EIS I believe. http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk
  11. No I didn't - i was actually thinking about that when i got in. I will try that today! Thank you. Why would that affect the Royal lens but no other in my collection? Is it to do with the single element design? http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk
  12. Hi guys, I'm out at Perris at the moment and was asked to film some 8 way today. The guys wanted NTSC footage so they loaned me a NTSC cam (didn't make a note of the model but its a Sony SD with a 25mm thread). There was a sony 0.6 on the camera which i took off and put on a Royal 0.3 (with a 25 - 37mm step ring) I was incredibly dissapointed with my footage of the first 2 jumps - there was a load of camera shake (looked like an OIS issue!) I took the royal off and put the sony back on and the shake dissapeared (phew). I haven't really used the Royal lens much before and was wondering if anyone else has noticed anything similar? http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk
  13. I've jumped Katana 120, 107, 97, XF2 119, 109 Mamba 117, 104, 96 My main canopy is now a Mamba 104 and I have about 400 jumps on it at just under a 2 wingloading. For me its the most high performance and most fun of the 3 followed by the Katana then the XF2 (but i have done more jumps on it) I think a lot of this depends on your terms of reference. I have about 2000 jumps on Vel 103's and 96's and found the Mamba very easy to fly with a great landing - the openings are the best of any high performance canopy I've jumped. I did a couple of training camps with a Mamba 104 in one rig and a Ve96/103 in the other and it wasn't a drama with turn heights etc so I believe it loses a lot of height during the turn. What I've noticed is that people jumping these very high performance canopies for the first time say that the Mamba is very twitchy - i prefer to use the term responsive. People who are used to jumping very high performance canopies tend to prefer the Mamba. Just my thoughts demo demo demo http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk
  14. I've been looking at getting a new setup but have a question about RAM. From what I've read it isn't worth having more than 2 gig of RAM unless you have a 64 bit operating system - is your version of XP 64 bit or not? regards gary http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk
  15. Best freestlye i have seen is Vince from Babylon in Ampuriabrava. Juggling ghostrider - miracle man and a half (not sure what its called but doing a 540 thru the landing) after starting his turn blindman etc etc... http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk
  16. This is in no way a great shot but shows the advantage of shooting with flash. Without the flash it would have been much more difficult to make out the paying customer with the high layer of cloud. This was shot in TV mode at 1/500 Flash set to high speed sync and zoomed in to 24mm (i've experimented a lot and like this setting with a 15mm lens) Underexposed by a full stop. Like I said, not a great shot but just trying to make the most of the situation without resorting to PS http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk
  17. In the Patrick Passe film 'Anti Gravity' there is a great sequence of the french 8 way team. It includes a slo mo clip of the camera guy deploying and you see his excess brake line snaking all over his cameras. Makes me shudder every time! http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk
  18. There was a post a while ago about cutaways actually being used - well here goes... A friend was doing a jump at the weekend. On deployment his excess brake line wrapped around part of his camera helmet and popped a brake but remained entangled with his helmet. This person was then rotating (small high performance canopy etc). He popped the other brake but was still entangled. He then cutaway the helmet, untangled the brake line and landed with his helmet under his arm. To me there are 2 important lessons here; 1 Have a cutaway and practice locating and pulling it. My friend had recently changed helmets and spent a few seconds reaching for where the cutaway was on his old helmet. 2 Stow your excess brake line. It only takes a few seconds. stay safe!! http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk
  19. Yeh, I know the numbers don't always mean much. I wish I still had my Raynox .5 to compare, I wanted to do the same thing. If I remember correctly I had to have my XT lens at ~16mm to match the Raynox .5. With the Century .55 I need it at 17.5mm. So yeh, it's about 10% less wide, seems accurate as the numbers would lead you to believe. That's a pretty damn cool idea. Too bad with the 5050, the UV filter I had was causing vignetting... I guess maybe with a super slim one it would have been ok. Here is a shot of it. I used a 72-77mm step up ring (i had to dremel it down a bit). I don't see any vignetting on the foorage but if I capture a still from the footage then there is a bit. http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk
  20. How wide is this compared to the raynox 0.5? I know it shouldn't be as wide (0.5 compared with 0.55) but i have found the numbers don't mean a lot! I use the raynox HD 0.3 and got over the fogging by glueing a step up ring to the end of it then putting a UV filter on it. I like how low profile this one is though. http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk
  21. I bought a Voodoo about 8 years ago and although it was OK I much prefer my flat top pro http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk
  22. Hi Guys - hope somebody can help me!! I have some footage that i want to mirror ie i want to make a left hand exit look like a right hand exit. I have premiere pro 2 but I'm not particularly familiar with it. I've added the mirror filter but this doesn't seem to do anything - is this possible to do? I also have Ulead media studio pro V7 which I am much more familiar with but again the mirror filter doesn't seem to do anything. Many thanks for your help!! http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk
  23. You have probably created various layers. You need to 'flatten' the image (go to layer, then flatten image) before saving as a jpg (i have version 7 - may be different on yours) http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk
  24. I've posted some pics on my site http://www.garywainwright.co.uk/gallery_99765.html http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk
