  1. Does Flysight have breakoff alerts? If not, could those be a possible future feature? ;)
  2. Two rubber bands. And it's freakishly secure. I've already taken a blow to the face with it on. The mount flipped and I got some nice video of my chest and legs on landing...
  3. what do you people mean by "sitting in the harness"?
  4. I use it and like it a lot. Pros: *MUCH less of a snag hazard due to better position - you don't have to adjust your deployment sequence to account for it *easy cutaway (pull DOWN not out...) *doesn't make you obstruct your view by forcing you to keep your G3 visor in your field of view *can see if camera is "blinking" without asking someone on the plane, keeps more attention on skydive and less on camera. People are collecting $100+ for a hypeye kickstarter for this exact functionality when it's so simple - there's a blinking light on top of the GoPro that you can see. *doesn't make you crouch an extra three inches in the plane Cons: *fixed camera angle *real pain to attach the mount to the helmet the first time you do it. You will be cursing. I promise. *full load = I may have to face sideways Other questions I've been asked: *It doesn't obstruct view of your handles. I haven't had noticed any jitteryness yet, but I'm not good enough to be going 300 mph headdown either, so who knows. If you're not a super-serious videographer, this is in my opinion the best mounting option for a GoPro out there. If you are a super serious videographer, you're probably not using a GoPro anymore.
  5. I find that I get the best, most consistent openings when I 1. Fold the cells forward towards the tail of the canopy (hard to describe what I mean) 2. Push nose in 3. Pay extra attention to slider (make sure it is visible when you wrap the canopy in top skin so it catches the wind first)
  6. A LOT of people jump Sabre 1's. So no, it's not too old. I jump a Sabre2 190 that's only a year or two newer with about 150 more jumps and it flies like a champ. I do think I have to pay a little more attention to how I pack it than a newer Sabre though. Just my impression from jumping three different Sabre2 canopies.
  7. I have a friend that survived a jump with his chest strap undone. Reach across with your left hand to the rightside of the harness, grab riser covers with as much grip as you can get, hold on for dear life and pitch. Become gear check nazi if you survive.
  8. Yes, but how tight? UPT's vector size chart lists smaller size speed 2000's than OPTs...
  9. Use this mount instead: http://www.grellfab.com/ Hero3 has a blinky light on top of it that you can see. No Hypeye needed.
  10. Same way I guess some people seem to believe that there is some shadowy cover up going...ya believe what ya wanna believe. I choose to believe people I personally know. And they tend to not agree with you. And unlike you, some of them were at the DZ that day. Some on that very load. I don't know where you got information from, but I do see that Rich fucked up in a big way and committed something that should render him useless in a leadership position for the time being. I also see a backhanded attempt at a passive-aggressive PR campaign to keep the dude in the USPA. This goes against USPA PR recommendations to DZs btw. All this "oh you don't really know do you?" bullshit is bullshit to me because I asked people that were there and to the best of my judgement the following is true: * Rich fucked up * Crashed into some chick sitting on a table * She ended up in a hospital for a while Almost immediately the bullshit peddlers came out of the woodworks. "She already had a concussion and was in the hospital for extra time for observation" and the latest round of passive aggressive "I am holyer than thou why don't you make a phone call you don't know anything all your information is from some email [side note: I never received any emails about this...]" bullshit. Seriously. This is just aggravating. When I contacted the USPA for comment, I was told to wait until the BOD meeting. To answer your question, yes it would be nice to know more about USPA and how it runs and spends its money. Oversight is an important part of government.
  11. This is like the third time that you've mentioned that you did additional research into the matter and have additional information, but have yet to provide much of anything except that "an investigation has been started", which is great. That's what I got from the USPA too, along with "wait for the board of directors meeting" when I asked. So I am waiting, but I still contend action should have come sooner. Please don't group everyone that thinks this guy should step down and is appalled that he's still in a position of leadership with "sheeple" and look down on us all. Some of us had friends on that load. Thanks.
  12. You are mistaken, I think. The details of GPS processing are a little outside my area of expertise. However, roughly speaking... The GPS C/A code is transmitted on the L1 frequency at a rate of 1.023 Mbps. The C/A code itself is a 1023 bit "pseudorandom" sequence. This means the code has certain "nice" properties that random signals do, but the sequence can be generated by a simple function. This means the C/A code repeats 1000 times per second. To distinguish one satellite from another (and from background noise), the GPS processor correlates the incoming signal against the known pseudorandom sequence for each satellite. Thus, we might expect that there is a natural limit somewhere around 1 kHz sampling. What keeps us from realizing this 1 kHz sample rate is the enormous amount of computation that needs to take place in order to perform the correlations mentioned above. The ability to perform these computations while remaining space- and energy-efficient is one of the things that separates one GPS chipset from another. For now, the rate that we get solutions is mainly limited by a balance between cost, energy-efficiency and space. With each generation, u-blox has reduced the scale of their fabrication process, which allows them to squeeze a few more transistors into the same space with minimal impact on power requirements. Consequently, we see a bump in the specs each time. Hope that helps clear some things up! Michael That's really informative, thanks! ... are serial numbers indicated on Flysight boxes somewhere? (i.e. is there any way I can tell whether I'm getting an older or newer chipset?)
  13. neat. Reason I ask is I thought that max GPS refresh frequency is 1 HZ, and 10 HZ for Glonass. Am I mistaken?
  14. do you use gps or glonass?
  15. There is no set date for a reserve in the USA. It's whatever a rigger will pack for you. I have friends jumping with reserves so old (>25 years old) the rigger at my DZ refused to pack them, but the container manufacturer packed it for them. I have also seen riggers refuse to pack non-TSO'd reserves in a non-TSO'd container, only to have another rigger pack that reserve and put his stamp on it. My reserve is a ~17 year old PDR. Those last ~20 years until you have to send it in for re-inspection, and who knows what happens then. Couldn't have asked more from it my last chop. I do plan on sending it in to PD for inspection after this season though to get the fabric tested.
  16. I'm not sure this is the appropriate place. Post here instead: http://www.dropzone.com/classifieds/
  17. Any that don't mind their rigs taken to the desert? lol...
  18. Get your rigger to sew on a similar thing to the top of the yoke. I've seen a few Wings and Infinity rigs with that.

    Wings

Unless you have one of their coupons go through a dealer. That's what they want you to do, and your experience will be much better if you do it that way. They're not the best, but not the worst either. They put up with me after all... Glide is a solid rig btw. I know a couple of people that jump them and love them.
  20. Nope. The main risers, of course, attach to your harness with the 3 ring release system, so the main can be released. The reserve risers are sewn into the harness and can't be. How about a hook knife?
  21. You, sir, are a prophet! http://www.ebay.com/itm/GoPro-Hero3-Plus-Black-Edition-Adventure-1080P-HD-Camcorder-w-Wi-Fi-CHDHX-302/351082589088?customid=8bf05011299e40dbb4f5245ebede38cd&pub=5574652453&afepn=5337259887&campid=5337259887&pt=Camcorders_Professional_Video_Cameras&hash=item51be272ba0&afepn=5337259887
  22. You don't get to pick your own altitudes :(
  23. Hi Bill, thank you for the detailed explanation. I'm having trouble visualizing the quoted material - in a spinning mal, isn't there substantial centripetal force that would force a sideways reserve deployment? Or are you suggesting that the MARD starts deploying the reserve, but pops the pin on the pilot chute which goes at ~90 degree angle to the skydiver and the pull in the 90 degree angle disconnects the pin system? Is there a video somewhere that could illustrate that scenario? Thank you in advance!
  24. Yeah, but I think that increases the media frenzy, not decreases it. People don't watch news for news nowadays. They watch news for blown-out-of-proportion drama...
  25. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not going for blood. It's up to the girl or her family to file any criminal charges. I just want him to give up his position of leadership... too much to ask? This whole situation is a ticking time bomb. If the press get wind of it it might turn into a real shit show...
