  1. Welcome to dropzone.com and the skydiving community. Lots of skydiving on the east coast, both north and south. Consider traveling up and down the east to save yourself flight costs. That will leave you more $ for jumping. But whatever you decide, enjoy!
  2. Sounds like you have a good plan! If in NC, plan a road trip and come visit us in Raeford. We'd love to see you. We have number of college folk that come and camp out for a weekend or week to learn to jump. blue skies!
  3. Cool. Good luck and keep us posted.
  4. Congrats! I'm sure that took a bit of practice & talent.
  5. I'm there with you! I miss Dunkin Donuts. I'm stuck with only Krispy Kremes around here. Folks are so crazy about Krispy Kreme's here the kids sell them by the dozen as a fund raiser for the schools.
  6. Best wishes for your auntie and you. Hang in there. Hopefully they will be able to figure it out soon.
  7. ok - so long hair then and now you have short hair? At least your not going through a mid-life crisis and trying to grow it out again.
  8. http://www.goldenknightsaa.com/ This is the Golden Knight Alumni Association. Good luck!
  9. http://www.uspa.org/publications/SIM/2004SIM/SIM.htm I don't get it. I read again and again of people trying to learn or get back into the sport. I think that is fantastic. Yet why do so few think about our very own United States Parachute Association as a resource? The videos, etc. you bought and studied are great resources. And I'm not saying USPA is perfect. But please tell me you considered reading Section 4 of the SIMS. Good luck!
  10. Sounds like a good match for your needs. Just protect your back and wear gloves. It is amazing how much cardboard boxes will cut up your hands.
  11. Cath: Sounds like skydiving will help you with the airplane fright thing, but the few folks we have taken through our school that have come for the purpose of a fear of heights, leave with a fear of heights. But like others have typed, they are still much better people and love skydiving. So I hope you get hooked into the sport no matter what happens with the height issue! Good luck and keep us posted.
  12. Everybody is different. Not only does your own personal budget affect how quickly you get your own gear, but also what your home DZ has available. If your DZ has decent rental equipment at a fair rental rate - use it! Save for your own rig and work on getting some jump numbers under your belt before shopping. If your home DZ does not have rental equipment or what they have available is "a little scary" for your needs, then shop now! Good luck.
  13. Welcome back to skydiving. We have a few couples with your situation. The tough part is when you and your husband want to jump together. Find a really broke teenager that wants to learn to skydive. You'd be amazed what you can work out!
  14. If too busy or broke, just show up at beer-30 time and join in! Hope you are back in the air soon.
  15. Yep. They remind the staff that they get to go through the doors, gates, fences and barbed wire to go home at the end of the work day. Our "customers" get to stay. Any stress on the outside can't be as bad as being left behind on the inside.
  16. Name 3 things many like, but you just can't figure out why 1-spicy food so hot the revenge is horrific the next day 2-cheap toilet paper - ouch! 3 -hang overs. They must like them because they just keep having them.
  17. Try drinking a full glass of water between each beer. You won't have as much time to spend on the beer, you'll be too busy going to the bathroom to drink too much beer and 1/2 a buzz is lousy so you'll cut down even more! Result - less $ spent on beer and more on gear.
  18. Breath, just breath, then open your eyes and take a look around. You'll love it! Welcome to skydiving

colbrodie is busy watching UNC destroy Maryland. I can guarantee some hollerin going on there!
  20. www.uspa.org Go through the SIMS. I vaguely recall something about it there. Good luck!
  21. Just about all purchases are translated into either the number of jumps I could have made or what type of canopy/container that could have bought. It's an illness that most skydivers have.
  22. TonyT just ordered a new license tag for his car. Can't wait for it to arrive. Very cool...... YNOTJUMP
