  1. Jessica Simpson is a better choice than who WAS being considered (before she went off the deep end this year) -- Britany Spears. Yeeech... And I think that her acting like a twit is mostly an act -- she may be a bit flighty but I think she has used it now to her full advantage. I am sure she will morph in a year or two into something else as this act will get old (sort of how madonna is always changing).
  2. Don't go on Friday or Saturday evening at 7 pm as nothing good is left...
  3. In addition, the mom's (can't remember her name) husband George apparently has some pscyhological issues (schizophrenic??) and has conversations with an imaginary woman (who I think is an old wife) and thinks the world is comimg to an end and ends up making his own bunker.
  4. A lot of paperwork costs will be reduced investing in health information technology -- e-prescribing, electronic medical records, interoperability among private and public payors. Its amazing how much is wasted on paperwork, redundant services, labor, etc. However, this is something that already is happening and a big effort of both private and public industry. It is also something that is a big part of the Bush Administration -- he created by Executive order a health information technology office and has a 10 year plan in place (he announced it in May)...
  5. i am not at all surprised that Chuck Schumer is involved with this -- he is the biggest media hound that exists and loves any opportunity to control access to those things he considers "weapons" but he is a true New Yorker... bless his soul (and his hair plugs...)
  6. FIVE People per year die from Vending machines falling on them when they are trying to get a stuck piece of chips/candy bar out.
  7. wow, that tab is gonna hurt on the credit card. i had one that was about $2500 at a steak place in midtown, but we split it among 5 people so it wasn't nearly as bad. Plus it was on the corporate account. i hope you all split it or at least got lucky
  8. where are you staying? Also just a word of advice: Metro does not go into Georgetown or Adams Morgan -- but taxis are everywhere and are cheap. And watch out for Brickskellar -- I was there one time and there were a few roaches wandering around. And that Brickskellaris in Dupont Circle (fun area and predominantly gay). Definitely go to the Holocaust Museum - you have to get tickets in the morning (they allot times for you for later in the day). You need at least 3 hours there. Its extremely powerful. And another new and hip area - espeically for eating out is the Penn Quarter area -- its full of restaurants and bars.
  9. Reagan Jr. has always been an unabashed liberal and has not seen eye to eye with the Republican party or many of his father's political beliefs. No different than in the past years. He is entitled to his own views -- they just happen to be given a public audience from the mere fact that he is the son of a great President. If he was not Reagan's son, his views would likely not get any publicity. He just so happens to be capitalizing off of his name. I take whatever he says with a grain of salt -- he is hardly someone I consider a great thinker or leader...
  10. tuna fish sandwich. Not very good though -- too much mayo and the bread was too soggy. In and Out and Wendy's sound so much better than my pathetic sandwich
  11. what about Jessie Jackson? what a great leader for African Americans.... Obama hopefully will stand firm with his beliefs and statements and be a new role model for blacks and new Democrats.
  12. i agree with you typicalfish about the poor quality of many of the Democrats -- particularly in their personal character. However, I do think that there are some rising stars in the Democrat party -- they just happen to be moderates and when it comes to party platform and such it is ddifficult for them to get that national recognition that is needed. This needs to change -- just a matter of when. A few have been spotlighted at the convention == Obama seems to have some umifying things to say -- and also made comments similar to what Bill Cosby said about African Americans needing to do better. Also, John Edwards, while I do not agree with his politics, is someone who has drive, leadership, and the smarts. I think that we will see the rise of more moderates in the Democrat party that will slowly gain more strength -- unions are losing their hold and trial lawyers know that they may have to take some limits or it will bankrupt our country. This heartens me because the two party system does NOT work for me -- and I think that many Americans probably feel the same way and are dissillusioned by it.
  13. YOU know maybe the cops did overreact and shouldd have been a bit less zealous... but at the same time, i think that our beetle collector seems a bit too overzealous in "fulfilling his obligation as an American citizen" in suing... I find the mere fact that he thinks he has an obligation to sue a bit disconcerting... our court systemse are way too clogged with people suing for all their pain and suffering. I mean, didn't he feel that he got some response after his 12 page letter?? "I'd feel I wasn't fulfilling my obligation as an American citizen if I didn't,'' he finally said. "I've got an obligation to do this."
  14. i love the botox references -- every time you see Kerry he has fewer and fewer lines -- he is almoost plastic looking. the Clinton wth the babe and Hillary hitting him is great.
