  1. Quiet an analytical leap there and completely wrong...you fail. +1 No, it would have been a terrible idea. My comment was more of a 'Did you know...?' than anything pointed.
  2. What game are you hunting for? Knee jerk would be the Rem700 as an all around but there are other weapons and calibers that are better for specific game.
  3. I looked into the idea of cheating on my taxes. By your logic I'm a tax cheat. Fail to see how you reached this conclusion in an observation of facts that I made; there was no argument or point to be made. I was commenting that Dien Bein Phu as a military battle was terrible for the French troops. As a result of the seige and the situation of French troops, Eisenhower contemplated using atomic bombs on the Vietnamese forces which of course he did not. So please enlighten me on what your argument is about concerning my logic?
  4. By far one of the best MEMEs I've seen in a while. Enjoy
  5. Dien Bien Phu sucked for the French, so much that Eisenhower looked into the idea of dropping atomic bombs on the Vietnamese to rescue the French. Operation Vulture, look into it.
  6. +1 This is so incredibly close to the truth that it is not even funny. Even our closests contenders on a conventional level have altered their doctrine to encorporate heavy military losses (60% of their conventional forces) in the first 2 months and have instead begun to focus on developing 'depth' defenses to protract any potential conflict because they understand that the American political system will lose the will to fight as other things become more important. Gone are the days when the wars of America affect the daily life of Americans since WWII, perhaps the Korean war. Even the perception of the hippie movement ending Vietnam is inaccurate. If you read polls and surveys conducted throughout the time somewhere in the neighborhood of 54% still supported Nixon through Linebacker I & II and until Watergate had a lot of faith in the presidency. (Sidenote: Someone mentioned Johnson and Ladybird Helicopters however we were being dragged into Vietnam slowly since Eisenhower, mostly by JFK, and then it got dumped on Johnson. Johnson's dreams were centered around his Great Society plans rather than military conflict in Vietnam). I digress. The sheer power of the USAF and its ability to utterly rain an unholy shitstorm throughout the world is unbelievable. Some of the new Russian jets are second generation fighters on par with the F16s but we havn't even started factoring in F18s & F22s. Follow that with the Navy's ability to also unleash hell for hundreds of miles away (excluding boomer subs) and all of this is before you even start contemplating the actually arrival of US Army (Beat Navy!) ground forces. Have you ever seen what a battery (8 guns) of Paladins can do? Have you ever seen what 30 rounds of 155mm dropped within 500m of your location can do? Any idea what it feels like? Any idea of what you find on the receiving end (it's not much)? And that's just a battery. @ Mpohl: I've seen you post an incredible amount of anit-American, Anti-US gov stuff all over DZ and usually I ignore it because it's your opinion and you are entitled to that but know this. 1) Your ignorance is laughable 2) If the restraints that bind the true might of the US Military were ever broken and it were allowed to wreak havoc without the Rules of Engagement that it places on itself to maintain the "good guy" image, there would be nothing left of whatever target it was pointed at.
  7. As an individual that makes frequent trips to very unfriendly countries I can not agree more with the things you have said. It is very morbid getting these things in order but very necessary and does not take all that long to do. POA and specialized POAs for banking POA for medical decisions Living will for hospitilization (am I vegetable, do I have brain function, what are the percentages Actual will for the day I buy the farm. Funeral already planned (down to the casket and plot) and purchased with the local funeral home. One of the most overlooked items I think is naming an executor of the state. POAs cease to matter once you are actually dead and it can be a headace for loved ones to be recognized as the EoE. Ledgers set aside that I reconcile at the end of each month along with a list of specific individuals I want called and a list of all accounts, passwords and instructions to delete various accounts (Ebay, FB, etc.) Prepare for the inevitable.

    RIP Tom Clancy

One ping only... I shed a tear on this one. Great author.
  9. If its being mandated by the governing body of a country and is at the heart of an incredibly sensitive and fundamental debate then it better at least LOOK like it is functioning correctly to have any credibility. We are not talking about discovering bugs in the features page or an overwhelmning volume flow preventing proper operation...we are talking simply about the log in/registration page. As of this moment it makes the people (Tea Party) that have been doing all the fear mongering and spouting anti Obamacara rhetoric look incredibly fucking right to the masses.
  10. Humerous anecdote I recently asked my friends' little girl what she wanted to be when she grew up. She said she wanted to be President of the US. Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there. So I asked her, "if you were President, what would be the frist thing you would do?" She replied, "I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people." Her parents beamed with pride. "Wow...what a worthy goal," I told her "But you don't have to wait to be President to do that. You can come over to my house and mow the lawn, pull weeds, sweep my driveway and I'll pay you $50. Then I'll take you over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out and you can give him the $50 towards food and a new house." She thought over that for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eyes and asked, "Why doesn't the homeless man just come over and do the work and you can just pay him the $50?" I said, "Welcome to the Republican Party." Her parents still are not speaking to me. # Grain-o-salt # Not a real story # Capitalist economy is disappearing thanks to the wellfare state # want handouts without doing work # continued overregulation of private industries # Can't afford healthcare but driving new vehicle and have cable with premium channels and the newest smartphone # Fed up # #s are stupid
  11. Because PR is part of the US Commonwealth which is subject to federal law... And Travis earned all of my 'How's about NO!"
  12. Instead of moving, has your GF considered extensive allergy testing and shots or drops? My brother had severe allergies and started on shots and has never been better. Made a world of difference for him wihtout upending his life...unless of course you are just looking fora reason to move ;)
  13. Honestly felt a tingling in my soul that may have been feelings. Great compassion on part of the firefighter
  14. Jealous...only 28 years to go to catch up to you
  15. Pretty simple way of explaining a very complex process Champu, well done. Unfortunately I am not as well read on proposed 'Obamacare' as I would like to be in order to make a contribution one way or another to that particular debate. With that being said anyone screaming for a nationalized healthcare plan can take a punch to the face. My current occupation provides a wealth of helathcare and while the 'free' part is nice, waiting 4 hours to get a 10 minute oral exam to schedule a cleaning 2 months in the future is frustrating.
  16. Joke of the day: my bank account
  17. Mussolini made the trains run on time. Oh, and he made black shirts fashionable. I was being facetioius
  18. Morgan Freeman portraying principle Joe Clark did it in Lean on Me and no one seemed to mind it then. As I recall he got in more trouble for chaining the doors than kicking out the miscreants and managed to turn the school around.
  19. SHUT UP DONNY! Say what you like about the tenets of National Socialism dude, at least it's an ethos.
  20. I was thinking about going with blackface, a darkish sweatshirt makeup'd with a couple of GSWs and then walk around offereing people some of my skittles... Or wearing a uniform with a blonde wig, some lipstick and handing out secrets
  21. Definitely take the bad reviews with a grain of salt. I am finishing up my A requirements at Eloy right now. I started my AFF on the East coast (the school called to confirm and then accepted all jumps I had completed there) and while I don't have any major complaints with the instruction and feedback I got through my first 7 jumps, the amount and quality of feedback I have recieved from the instructors at Skydive AZ is leaps and bounds better. The instructors take the time after the jump identify improvement areas through critical thinking discussions and then help correct faulty techniques rather than just sign your log book and pat you on the back (they do that too though lol). Tom, Jared, Sandy, Dusty, and Kim are really on point. The other instructors are as well from what my fellow students and I have discussed but those are the only ones I have personal experience with. My only complaint about Eloy is the price for coach jumps. $144 is a little steep and cuts into how quickly I would have liked to finish up my jumps but I feel like you get what you pay for. They do have packages that save you money for all of your coach jumps (listed on their website). I would recommend getting your jumps in on Thursday, Friday, Sunday and Monday because on Saturday there are a lot of tandems which get priority on manifest (at least it feels that way). I usually go on Sundays and rarely wait more than 30 minutes from the time I land until I'm on the next otter. Eloy overall is great! You can easily crash in the bunkhouse for $8/night the bent prop provides all your food and booze needs and the gear shop is nice. Great community and lots of experience to draw from. If you have the $$$ then I would highly recommend it.
  22. Agreed. They don't need us but its always nice to have the big kid on the playground start the fight rather than start it yourself and hope he helps out.
  23. Different times. You're referring to a time that war affected daily life and things like rationing and scrap metal drives were common. Most Americans can't even point out Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria on a map much less give you specific examples of how they are affected daily (which most are not). But I agree that if SHTF people would look at things a lot differently (pragmatic and realistic once survival mode kicked in rather than idealistic). I think the tangible outcome is that the proverbial red line is reestablished. It's not about regime change, its not about swinging the tide in favor of the rebels and its not about furthering US interest (ok maybe a little...im not that naive). Ultimately its about crippling the ability of people who have demonstrated the capability and willingness to use weapons that more than 150 nations have deemed too cruel to use in warfare. In an attempt to oversimplfy a complex situation: if you tell your kid not to do something and they do it anyway and there is no reprimand, correction, punishment or what have you then the child will continue to misbehave. Unfortunately most parents would rather be their child's friend than a parent but thats another argument.
  24. One of the greatest misconceptions ever. I love when people argue that China and Russia will run our country because they are buying all of our debt. In truth if something ever did go down between Russia or China and the US we would flip you the bird and say we don't owe you shit and greately damage your banking economy...thanks for investing hundreds of biillions of dollars in our country for free. I'll have to do some rereading and pull up some old research that I did on this a while back to find the technical terms and economic principles that guide my argument.
