  1. I think all agree that [Mr. Mackey voice] "War is Bad" However, jumping around yelling "war is bad" doesn't really help the problem that undeniably exists in Iraq. The people of the world lack the information to make intelligent evaluations of this issue. We elected Bush and he chose his advisors to take the information (classified and otherwise) that they have and make decisions. The UN is there as a forum for discussion until it becomes irrelevant by its own apathy. Leaking information and spin doctoring opinion doesn't solve the problem. It's like getting a massage for a broken leg. Demanding proof will only serve to kill the sources of the information we need. History will tell whether those decisions were prudent and that will be the standard by which W is measured, not arm chair quarterbacks. -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. 2. I doubt that you can find anyone who believes that dying is a good thing or that war is sending out soldiers to die. Well, unless you count terrorists who think they're getting a bunch of virgins... -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. 5. If you're talking about the direction of the country, the question is really vague, the polls are the same as when he took office and the result is probably directed more by the economy that Bush inherited from Clinton with the fall of the tech sector than Iraq let alone what the French are doing. As far as Bush's approval rating, aside from a recent 54% & 59%, it hasn't changed a great deal in the past 6 months. Even so, the majority of the country approves of what he is doing despite the protests of some. More importantly, I don't approve of the Clintonian form of leadership where one runs around in front of popular opinion. -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. 6. [replyDid you click through and read any of the other questions in the poll? It became obvious very quickly this wasn't the case. When you took statistics you learned about confidence intervals and other reasons for error. Statistics are great when you have no idea how they took the sample. Things like how many people they surveyed, when, who, where/how e.g. on the street, mall or telephone, geographic location, etc. all contribute to the validity of the result. -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. 7. Pictures would be great and I'd like to see the whole ad. Would it be possible to have a form for each ad where you fill in the blank and use that for the subject line? Like for a Main: Sabre 190 $_00 So, the form might read: Type of Canopy: Sabre Size: 190 Price: $_00 DOM: 8/00 Jumps: 400 Then write whatever you want for the description. -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. 8. Quote So you don't think the opinion of the president dropping 10% in a week has anything to do with the french embassador getting a standing ovation in the UN last week? Quote You give Americans way too much credit if you think most know or really care about what happens on the floor of the UN. QuoteHow do you explain it dropping 10% in a week? You don't think these numbers are poignant, at all?Quote Do you think the orange (heightened terrorist) alert around here might have had anything to do with that? That's something Americans heard about. Then again, it's a poll. -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. Larry Flynt

  10. I do think there should be a forum for international communication and opinion like the UN, of which the US should be a member of, but the idea that the UN should reign supreme over the US, um, No! The US has been more than patient with diplomacy. The idea that our sovereignty is some how robbing the UN of power ignores the UN's decision not to decide and not to enforce its resolutions. The UN is undermining its own power and continued relevance in the world and without it, some European countries won't have any opportunity to contribute to policy through resolutions before the US and its friends enforce them. -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. 12. While I agree, I'd much rather use our new preemptive-invasion policy against Bin Laden and his followers than other countries. Does that mean we can go into other countries to attack Bin Laden, etc? 15. Isn't creating a biological or nuclear weapon provoking the UN? Otherwise, why does the UN have weapons inspectors? The US is the teeth behind the UN and will act IF the UN refuses. That's not a policy of preemptive invasion. Countries like South Korea should be able to rely on the UN to police North Korea and not be ignored or evaded like Iraq has done. -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. 16. Let me see if I understand. A small country now has an excuse to develop weapons to use on its own people or anyone else in an attempt to prevent being attacked by a bigger country for having those weapons? What's deterring the US? Why's the small country feeling threatened again? Because it invaded another country or refused to cooperate with the UN? As for North Korea, the UN hasn't seemed to put a dent in their human rights problems, but I haven't heard that we have any plans to take military action against it IF they end their nuclear program, which they agreed to do almost a decade ago. -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. 17. PISA is no more and those canopies are no longer made. It's now a part of Aerodyne http://www.aerodyne-int.com/ There's more info about the new company and a price list under the Aerodyne Renaissance thread, here: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=372520;search_string=pia%20price;#372520 Blue Skies -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. 18. Okay, but what if the "someone" who handed you that Diablo and then recommended that Crossfire was the dzo and the person who taught you to skydive? That sent a chill down my spine. I would have hoped someone like that would have taught him better instead of egged him on. -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. 19. Ethically, I think everyone involved with both canopies are responsible. At 50 jumps, he's not just a a danger to himself but to everyone else around so much so that ethically, the DZO should be made aware, step in and say not at my dropzone. But, that would be a perfect world. -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. Larry Flynt

  22. I have 30 jumps; so, take what I say with a grain of salt. It looks like you may have flared high, too slowly at first, finished early and reached for the ground. At altitude, try flaring faster down to the point your canopy pops up. Try to find where you can flare to and maintain altitude (not pop up). Then, ride your brakes at that point (hopefully, that's around your shoulders somewhere), adding brakes to maintain altitude only (or decrease your rate of descent). When you are close to the ground and the canopy is ready to land (don't force it to by reaching), finish the flare; don't finish it before you are ready to land or you could stall the canopy. So, at altitude, flare to the point, ride/add brakes thinking you're trying to maintain altitude and finish the flare (to a stall). I'm not saying to stab your brakes, but you want to use enough force to flatten out the canopy's descent. Hope it helps. jib -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. Larry Flynt
  23. I spent Saturday with Scott Miller learning how to fly a canopy better. There were four of us in the class and I was by far the least experienced at 26 jumps. The first jump is an evaluation jump: just do what you usually do. Afterwards, Scott asked what it was that each of us wanted to work on. After each jump, he critiqued the jumps with video, explained another aspect of canopy control and set individualized objectives for the next jump. I learned a lot from Scott's comments to everyone and it helped my confidence and awareness. I realized how much I learned when I was watching people land today. The price was $25 per jump including jump ticket, video and brief/debrief. For me, the video alone would have been worth it. I thought my first landing was pretty good. But, on review, I flared high and was a little slow in flattening out the canopy. The next jump I popped it up (seemed like a lot), but in reality, all I had to do for a decent landing was ride it out. On the next one, I rode out a X-wind flare and stood it up instead of assuming I had to PLF. Taking a couple wraps on the toggles and watching the ends of the canopy come together and completely stall was an experience in and of itself. (Note: it was a big canopy and up high) We started around 9, made the sunset load and finished up long after dark. It is designed to be a 5 jump course, but we only got through 4 jumps. Scott was working with us the whole time. He truly loves to talk about canopies and was eager to answer anything we asked. I can't say enough. I'll be back again when I'm ready to grab onto my front risers, if not before. jib -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. Court tosses gun case

The verdict of $1.2M in the Florida case against a gun manufacturer was set aside by the Court today.
  25. The failure to capture OBL (assuming he isn't dead) may have had something to do with the leaking of information to the press pertaining to how we were traking him via Sat-phone and their lack of restraint. Some wonder why we don't tell the press everything? What are we hiding? Intelligence or any information is only valuable if every moron in the world doesn't know about it. -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v.
