This is all the exciting part of wingsuit flying. We are at the infant stage of the growth and experience curves of the discipline, with plenty of new developments to come. When I started jumping formation skydiving was the in thing. Arguments went over big loose Jerry Bird 70/80's type jumps suits to super slick F111 suits, booties, the box position to the mantis position etc. 15 points in time on a four way was world class that’s now doubled. So who was right or wrong in those developmental arguments in formation skydiving? Formation Skydiving has now matured with few major advances recently where we as wingsuit pilots have a voyage of discovery ahead of us. With wingsuits we have the base line firmly established now with equipment and procedures, in other words a mouse trap. We are confined with in the wingsuit designs by the size, shape proportions of our bodies and the physics of the elements and gravity. On the one side we have the theorists and maths folks and the other side the practical folk who just want to fly. All with the objective of mastering flight and getting the max out of their suits, having a heap of fun in the process. I am surprised the big aerospace companies have not started studying us because we have airframes that can morph, changing the "aircraft" flight characteristics significantly in operation. This dynamic is our greatest attribute in flying our suits in the environment (i.e. flocking, base, speed, distance) of our choice. (Note to self:- Contact aerospace company to pay for my jumps so they can study me) Refinement and maturity will come with the designs being fined tuned with technological advancements, better materials will over come inefficiencies with current materials and flight experience will enhance training and coaching methods. On a commercial airlines they have those vest with a CO2 cylinder that inflates the vest, it also has a manual blow up. Be sure to loosen your cest strap if you use the CO2 or you may break a few ribs. --------------------------------------------- If you don't have wings you will never fly

There is a group of about 12 South Africans coming over firstly to Schaffen in Belgium for a pre-boogie and then onto the AN72 boogie. It is already a stretch for most of us with our beligered currency so I doubt any of our party will be able to make Stupino and then after that the Hungarian wingsuit event etc etc. It would be great to spend almost 2 month in Europe at wingsuit events but we also have to work to sustain our habit. --------------------------------------------- If you don't have wings you will never fly

I doubt there is any credibility to this story. Any reserve pilot chute that pushes through the closing flaps should have enough inertia to clear any cutaway/unzipped arm wings. There are no snag points that could hang up the pilot chute (note to self to double check). A weak spring that barely pushes the pilot chute through the closing flaps will place the directly on you back in a burble that will delay deployment if you don't clear it by dipping a shoulder. I have grounded reserves where the pilot chute did not even crown out of the flaps! For my own EP's cutting away or unzipping wings only happens once I have a flying canopy above me, albeit my reserve. EP's with closed/collapsed wings are far more favorable TO ME because they are under control and not flapping around . Cutting away or unzipping wings are in my sequence of procedures if I have an inflight failure of a zipper, blowout of a wing or as a final resort to a spin when all else has failed.
