  1. The Clintons and the Obamas hate each other and political party has nothing to do with a blood feud. Like i said perviously; lots of moving parts on this one so get some popcorn your favorite beer, sit back and watch the fireworks.
  2. One thing about life "inside the Beltway" is that few things are rarely what they seem and this is one of them. I would not bet on this one or even bet the over/under. I would guess, however that there are a lot, a whole lot of moving parts to this one. Bottom line: Way too early to tell.
  3. It sounds like you'll be coming down I-70 then to I-270 then linking up to I-495 (Capital Beltway) crossing the American Legion Bridge from Maryland into Virginia, and you'll be in go home traffic. Entering the District from Northern routes will always have the gridlock. Fact is, traffic is hard to escape here in the morning or evenings. Will others be travelling with you? If you have 3+ you can use the diamond lanes on I-495. Do you have an EZ Pass? The junction of I-495 to I-95 (heading South to Richmond) and I-395 is a network of freeway called "The Mixing Bowl." Get it right the first time or you will have to drive another two - three miles to double back. Set up for I-395 into WASHINGTON and stay on it into the District. The Pentagon will be on your left as you approach the Potomac. This should get you to your hotel. Yes, this is the best route to your destination. Don't try to detour in the District. The DC cops use radar and hide along with speed cams. AS far as they are concerned, you are form out of town and therefore a funding source. Make sure you know where you are parking. The traffic control pukes are as heartless as they come. Anymore questions, please ask. Good luck.
  4. What have we learned in the recent past about protracted war? It's bad. Ya damn right. The first one was for Japan and the second one was the statement to the world and particularly the USSR, "We have more and we can make more and we will use them to stop this war." Problem was, through Klaus Fuchs, the Soviets already new we had the the bomb.
  5. QuoteDon't forget the rubber ducky or the choo choo train.... or a strait jacket.*** Not covered under Obamacare.
  6. Actually, one can reason with stupid. It's unproductive and I would advise the one doing the reasoning to call ahead to the local asylum and reserve a rubber room. They're going to need it.
  7. Yea let's hope so. She takes on the USPS, she'll be busy the rest of her life and leave us the hell alone.
  8. So maybe there's one kid in the classroom that gets ridiculed. Based on class size 1/30? 1/25? 1/20? Now extend that to a community. So there is a statistical possibility that some of your neighbors got bullied in school way back when and still carry that chip on their shoulders AND they just happen to be the ones who don't like DeHavilland Otters and Skydivers. So why put the energy in ridicule? Kimmy and and her crew (I could write Kimmy and her Klan but I won't) ain't giving up. Today Longmount, tomorrow who's next? Maybe they were class runts in the past but that matters little now that they're making life hell for MHS and potentially the rest of us. Put the energy in the stuff that'll stop her once and for all.
  9. Cozumel is a no miss. Gulf of Mexico in the Summer. Guam and the Micronesia Islands. All very good dive locations.
  10. I would bet and probably be correct that the event you cite is not the only close call of the Cold War. But the Cold War brought to it different constructs and strategies far apart from what we saw in WWII. Let there be no mistake, it was nonetheless a war and many died executing missions of which "the Secretary will disavow any knowledge of such actions." My comments are made in the context AND ONLY the context of the Subject Thread and not the Cold War. "...because the times and circumstances require the action." I hope that clears things up.
  11. Actually, we would probably agree. It's not a matter of my opinion on my part it's what the Geneva Convention defines as what is and what is not a legitimate military target. But would it have mattered? The fact is that despite some small attacks by Japan (long range balloon bombs come to mind), American cities were not bombed. Whether Nazi Germany or Japan would have respected the Geneva Convention with the initial planning in bombing only military targets in American cities is doubtful. Daylight bombing by Eighth Air Force was focused on military targets but the undeniable fact is the Norden Bombsight was not as accurate as it was cracked up to be. So bombs did stray into civilian enclaves Ol' Bomber Harris (RAF) didn't give a damn. He didn't care where the bombs hit in German cities. Fact is whether you or I like it or not, justice and history is respectively metted out and written by the victors.
  12. Hindsight is a wonderful gift. The fact is more Japanese died and more real estate destroyed by conventional bombing than the two nukes delivered to Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Conventional bombing could have continued but would have failed politically and war is a political action. The statement to the Japanese and of course to the rest of the world was this, the United States now has the power to deliver ONE bomb to destroy one city. Hiroshima and Nagasaki would not have occurred had Pearl Harbor NOT been attacked as that was the thinking at the time. My father-in-law, now 98, hit four beaches (Tarawa, Guam, Tinian, and Saipan). Over the 33 years I've known him, he has talked to me about his experiences and his thoughts. What he saw and what he did along with his fellow Marines describes the horror and barbarity of war. That's how it was, and essentially, that's how it is or to quote W.T. Sherman, "War is hell and you can't refine it." But to another issue equally as important is the image and perspective of the United States at the time. My father-in-law made an important point in a discussion that has stuck with me to this day in understanding World War II. There was sufficient doubt in public opinion that the United States could fight a two theatre war and win both in spite of the outrage of Pearl Harbor. Sure, we can look back on it now and say victory was obvious all along, but that is hindsight. Thus, my rejoinder is this: just because we can sometimes means we must simply because the times and circumstances require the action.
  13. The Japanese may have offered terms for surrender but the conditions established in the Yalta and Potsdam Conferences by the Allies rejected any terms offered by Germany and/or Japan. The terms TO Germany and Japan were simple and direct; unconditional surrender. There has been much debate about the bombing of Japanese cities. The Japanese dispersed a lot of their industries supporting the military into the cities and in particular, the homes of its citizens. It was not uncommon for military uniforms or rifle bullets to be manufactured in private homes and the result is that the home becomes a legitimate military target that can be destroyed by opposing forces under the terms of laws of war, Geneva Convention.
  14. Yes, you are correct in pointing out this possibility. I encourage you to consider another possibility that there are those who embrace this principle with the firm understanding that a solid, constant, and unyielding commitment to delivering a quality product comes first, the money being the secondary result. I know Charlie’s first priority as a DZO is to deliver outstanding services and products simply because for the last three years, my wife and I trained, licensed and continue to jump at Blue Ridge Skydiving. My wife and I are at Blue Ridge, jumping almost every weekend. Charlie and Melissa own and operate a DZ, built literally from the ground up; competing and succeeding against four larger and more established DZ's in Virginia. There is a loyal core of fun jumpers and it is very very very rare indeed to see a first time tandem jumper walk away dissatisfied. Blue Ridge Skydiving commands the highest number of replies (44) for any DZ in the Commonwealth of Virginia with a rating of 4.93 out of a possible 5.00 and this score is from customers engaged in AFF, IAD, or Tandem jumping. Now, I'm new to the sport so I'll be the first to admit I don't know much about the current state of affairs, politics etc etc of USPA. I am however, a retired military officer (Maj, USAF) myself and I know full well that one may captain authority and one may captain respect. But the one who captains both is the leader. I'm stingy with my admiration and praise so when I state without equivocation that Charlie captain's both, I hope you would accept my word as it is based upon three years of interaction and observation. Charlie means what he says and says what he means and his statement of purpose and agenda in standing for election is no different. I hope this helps in your future voting decisions.
  15. Mad Dogs and Englishmen! Throw in road rage and we got a new song. Two bad Joe Cocker's doin' the dirt nap!
  16. Once again, the self appointed Oracle of Gunbarrel hath spoken and once again, she reveals her hand. The argument against airport expansion comes back over and over to MHS. She can't let it go and she's already on the hook for $115K. She keeps this up, she's not going to have any seed money to begin selling roses on the street corner once she's homeless.
  17. Could be the Neighborhood Nazis...The HOA.
  18. Well here's another one: http://www.dailycamera.com/letters/ci_28558831/paul-gordon-an-absurd-punitive-judgment-quiet-skies This raving rectum has the temerity of stating he's living in a "war zone." I've been in and seen a war zone, this asshole has no clue.
  19. I was going to state that reading the entire letter reminded me of the last scene of "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" but I won't state it...you got this one hands down! I too will buy you a beer of your choice!
  20. You can be any cookie you want!
  21. Hopefully, this is the legal sledgehammer that smashes future trouble making by CQS.
  22. Our responsibilities includes obligations and responsibilities exclusive to humans. One of those important duties we alone possess is to treat animals humanely and with respect, and to not cause suffering unless required by an overriding human need. There was NO human need here, just craven sadism of the first order. We can do better but it seems overtime we make a little progress, some dip shit comes along and sends us back. Deplorable.
  23. Moonlighting as an astrophysicist now? Goodness you are a smart cookie. Law not paying enough?
