  1. Even highly experienced jumpers might have a hard time correctly answering this question. There are a lot of variables and upper level winds play a big role if you are trying to measure against the ground. Look at this file. I did this when I had about 70-90 jumps as I recall. http://pyrodan.privatedata.com/skydive/tracking/tracking-data-sept-22.pdf There are some basic physics that can’t be overlooked. 1. You will only gain speed based on the lateral force exerted on your total mass….meaning, it takes time to get up to speed. 2. The lateral force depends on body shape, flying style, and other things but does not exclude body angle against the air. In one form or fashion you always trade altitude to apply the lateral force that builds your horz speed. You can’t get something (speed) for nothing. Getting speed cost altitude no matter how you slice it. Instructor quote, “What's weird is that you're older than my dad!”

  3. I was at a bigway camp and we were told to get control of our heading before unzipping. "Right", I thought. But with some practice I can now get hold of my risers during the snivel, both with my Rbird and my X2. Instructor quote, “What's weird is that you're older than my dad!”
  4. Flying Challenging Motion Sick (under some conditions) Bleeding money Instructor quote, “What's weird is that you're older than my dad!”
  5. It is actually possible to omit the step, "...before I upgrade to a smaller sized canopy in the future?" Instructor quote, “What's weird is that you're older than my dad!”
  6. I am interested in different designs of ankle smoke/pyro mounts that might work well with a wingsuit. Instructor quote, “What's weird is that you're older than my dad!”
  7. I know a guy at tore his ACL in a packing accident. (really) Instructor quote, “What's weird is that you're older than my dad!”
  8. I had a lot of problems with motion sickness (have had all of my life) and other problems learning to skydive. I am happy I didn't commit to some big, fast, adventure and then discover my problems. I think each person has a pace that fits them the best. Until you have a few jumps, that pace might be hard to identify. Have fun. Instructor quote, “What's weird is that you're older than my dad!”
  9. Simon, What days might we be doing XRW and who will be organizing XRW? Instructor quote, “What's weird is that you're older than my dad!”
  10. ++ for Zhills in the winter and is my home away from home. Everyone seems to have fun jumping with Travis. Instructor quote, “What's weird is that you're older than my dad!”
  11. Like underwear....only you, buddy. Instructor quote, “What's weird is that you're older than my dad!”
  12. I saw an AFFI with one of those mounts drilled cable tied to his mudflap. Good utility mount. Works as a table top stand too. Instructor quote, “What's weird is that you're older than my dad!”
  13. Seek advice from your instructors. I did an AFF jump in cold weather wearing insulated hunting coveralls. Unless they really want you to have grippers, you might get by with some form of coveralls until later when a jumpsuit would actually be needed. Waiting to buy a custom jumpsuit is a good idea. Your fall rate can be adjusted by the right type of jumpsuit. This will be important when you are jumping as a licensed jumper. Instructor quote, “What's weird is that you're older than my dad!”
  14. It has been a while since I have been to the USPA web site but what has happened to it? Almost every link, I have to watch this spinning thing (see attachment) for several seconds. Web pages don't have to be slow. They are slow by choice and poor design or platform decisions. Arrr! Instructor quote, “What's weird is that you're older than my dad!”
  15. Welcome to the sky. Don't believe everything you see on the Internet....:) Instructor quote, “What's weird is that you're older than my dad!”
  16. I have only been jumping for 4 years but I have been happy to see that the ticket prices have stayed very predictable even when the price of fuel goes up and down. I am happy to let the DZ make a few more cents since they didn't demand extra from me when the fuel hit some high points a while back. Instructor quote, “What's weird is that you're older than my dad!”
  17. Wow, that seems odd, the 45 second delay part. All of my student jumps from a C-182 were less than 35 seconds, with our exits being 9,500 feet because of the 1200 MSL of the DZ. Instructor quote, “What's weird is that you're older than my dad!”
  18. If you think about it, you had a great learning experience. After the first slow deployment you had a chance to prime your brain/reaction to be ready to act. So instead of shock, you could reason out what you were going to do and when. Sounds like a great day, overall. Instructor quote, “What's weird is that you're older than my dad!”
  19. Not everyone has the same experience at a large DZ or a small DZ. I jumped at both as a student. Prior to being licensed the smaller DZ worked well for me because I had some problems that needed a slower pace of the training. But soon after getting licensed I was getting more opportunity to learn faster at a larger DZ. Don't be afraid to test the waters at different DZs. Your mileage may vary. 20. Well no shit, tell us more! Tell me more, tell me more (did they fall very far) Tell me more, tell me more (like did they land on a car) DZ.com rocks! Instructor quote, “What's weird is that you're older than my dad!”
  21. Just yesterday one of my friends had a cutaway. Highly experienced jumper, but bad deployment position, large suit, and many twists. His canopy was stable. The twists had somewhat restricted his head movement already. He tried to get untwisted and it twisted up a bit more and started a rotation. 2000 feet now so, he cut away before it had a chance to get worse. You don't hear much about all those that do the right thing. Instructor quote, “What's weird is that you're older than my dad!”
  22. Thanks. I guess I was mistaken...thinking that if they worked in Preview that it was or should be working on the posted message. Thanks for all of the hard work on the site. Instructor quote, “What's weird is that you're older than my dad!”
  23. "Inline" is not working in private messages either. It is a nice feature....or was. Thanks, Dan Instructor quote, “What's weird is that you're older than my dad!”
