CSS anyone 2??

Casey, I think that movie is on dvd now... ;)

Whit, I'm really glad your surgery went well. We should have a countdown to 4 weeks. Here's one of the few non-action shots of the four of us. I have a CD with all the pictures for you- Will you be at the dz this weekend? I know you're not jumping, but I thought you might be hanging out.

I saw my new ENT guy today, and he looked at my CT scans from last week. Before he even got them clipped to the light box, he said, "Oh, wow." There were a few seconds of silence. Then, probably realizing that's not the best thing to say to a patient upon seeing a CT scan of her head, he added, "I mean, don't worry. It's not like you have a brain tumor. But that's A LOT of inflammation." :D I got some 'roids to deal with the current stuff, so I'll hopefully be back in the air this weekend. I'll probably end up getting surgery in the not so distant future, so I'll keep up the quilting bee when y'all are all healed up.

Sheesh, We should rename this thread "Busted CSS Jumper Status Anyone?"

Road Trip Update:
So I left Marion's house at sunrise on Monday morning... I figured that I'd try to make St. Louis by the first night, Denver by the second night, and Moab on wednesday. Well, fuck that. I arrived at the airport in Moab just a bit after sunset on tuesday... about 38 hours after leaving Marion's. It was a 2004 mile drive :S Needless to say, I'm pretty tired after two 16 hour days of driving. BTW, if you've never driven hwy 70 West from Denver to Utah, it's the most beautiful road that I've ever seen! I stopped in Vail and there was snow everywhere, but it was 60 degrees and I could comfortably walk around in a tshirt and sandals. Anyhow, I'm going to go set up my tent and SLEEP hard. More updates and pictures forthcoming!
Seeya!

Marion - WHEW!!! .... thanks for cropping that pic :D!

Whit - "Malleolus" = hammer-shaped; like a mallet, get it? Sounds like they had to repair a heel ligament. Man, you're tough, girl. 8-12 weeks? That ROCKS - you should be OK for holiday boogies!

So - official countdown to next tramp night = 28 days? (Tess - wanna borrow my 4" heels? or my 6" stainless steel ones? Oh, never mind - even I can't walk in those.) Marion and I were talking about going to the place we went for Keith M's bday - the Italian restaurant/video game/go-karts/miniature golf place, the name escapes me. But as Whitney might not be up for that, I think we should all try to come up with ideas. I say this should be open to ALL CSS women .... and it really is a challenge to outdo Casey on Tramp Night, believe me, ladies. Yes, I'm throwing down a challenge here - not only did she have the shapeliest legs, she made our waiter comment: "And here I almost called in sick today." :)
As for venues, I'll put the ? to G and see what his diabolical mind comes up with, as well. Hopefully he can join us later in the evening. I'd love for you guys to meet him.

Eric - MISS YOU - glad you made it to Moab in one piece. If you liked Hwy 70 that much, do yourself a favor and take a slight detour on your way back - take the CO exit for Hwy 6 to Keystone/Dillon/Silverthorne, and take US 6 over Loveland Pass back to I70 - it's a mere 15 mile-or-so detour. Park at the 11,900 ft pass for 5 -10 mins, get out of your car, feel all dizzy and woozy from the alt, and take in the magic of the high country. I promise you won't regret it. It's a magical place.

Best,
D

Marion - edited to add: I hope your head is better soon. Do steroids make you looney? 'Cause if so, I'll leave you alone and quit inundating you with e-mails .... :P

Thanks for the tip Dawn! I actually remember seeing that exit on the way here.
I've been being a little lazy today. I got up and went to Apex BASE, but Jimmy & Marta were nowhere to be found. Then I went to Tombstone and couldn't find any jumpers anywhere. I spent most of the afternoon helping the DZ get ready for the boogie & scoping out a canyon where they're going to be dropping loads in the mornings.... You land on a road between the 400 foot walls B|
The town of Moab is REALLY nice. There're bike shops, outfitters, and jeep rental places on every corner and everyone who I talked to was exceedingly friendly.
The booigie officially starts tomorrow and people are arriving from all over. One otter just landed a few hours ago from Eloy, and there are another otter and a skyvan coming tomorrow.
I met up with a couple of BASE jumpers this afternoon and we're going to get up early and try to go make a jump before skydiving. Woohoo! I'll talk to you all soon!

^ Will do man. Moab is gorgeous! I made 3 jumps this morning. I'll post some pics later. Pauly & Ruth won't be here for another week, but we're planning to make some jumps off of some new exits that Pauly checked out the last time he was here.

ok...so i've tried to be a good little patient and keep my stupid ankle elevated and stay off it and yada yada yada...but i can't take it anymore...the walking cast (aka "the devil") that they gave me feels like some medieval torture device, so it had to come off, and i'm bored to tears sitting in front of the television, so i think i'll be making my way up to the dz to hang out tomorrow evening...i should probably be there around 6ish so if any other invalids would like to hang...meet me on the deck!!

later taters!

That's exactly what I was saying at the DZ last weekend when Whitney got hurt! I'm doing better with the help of my 10 lb walking boot thing. If I get any rude comments I just kick someone. The PT has been doing wonders for my recovery. I won't be at the DZ this weekend. It was really hard last weekend to sit out there and watch everyone else jump, however wonderful to hang out with great friends. I'm itching to jump soon . . . I miss everyone lots! I hope you all have a fabulous weekend.

Ok...so i left CSS yesterday at about noon, but it appears that we have a new addition to the CSS Knitting Club...matt dresner (manifest) had one hell of a landing at about 4pm and had to be ambulanced off to the hospital. He was released with no xrays, no pain killers, nothing...but i talked to him today and apparently his knee is killing him! I'm headed to his and emily's place in raleigh to visit for the afternoon...PM me if you'll be around!

SERIOUSLY, this had better be it...no more hurt people now I mean it!!

Ok, so I guess I owe everyone an apology for my dumbass move sunday, and I need to thank Randy, Rob, Dawn and Marion for helping me. If I missed anyone, sorry I dont know who all was helping me while I laid on the ground like an idiot. I hope I set a perfect example of what not to do under canopy, and I hope people learn from my mistakes. In case you dont know what happened I did a low 180 and crashed into the ground face first, bounced up, flipped through my lines and landed 60-70ft from where I first hit the ground. I was released from the ER with nothing more than a prescription for Motrin and thought I was ok. Here it is the next day and I cant walk. Going to another hospital today, pretty sure I broke my knee. Will update as events unfold. SORRY again for being such a dumbass and dragging people down with me.---Matt

Matt, I'm really sorry to hear about your accident. I hope that your knee is alright and I'm glad that things weren't any worse. Heal fast!

On the last load of the boogie yesterday night the otter lost an engine at 3K and had to come around and land one engine. They flew the skyvan out to AZ to pick up a new engine and it got back this morning, so there has been alot of action going on in the hangar. About 2400 jumps were made during the boogie and there was only one injury that I know of. A TM sprained her ankle badly after her first jump at the high density altitude here. There was another guy who swooped right into the powerlines that supply the entire airport... it took them 3 hours to get the power back on. They did about 150 tandems and I did a dozen videos... not really as many as I'd expected.

Now I'm headed to Tombstone to try to make a jump before leaving for Twin Falls in the morning.

I miss you all! Kelly Green and Andy Hogenbaum say hello to those who remember them!

I forgot to mention...I had the great pleasure of eating with the parrish crew on saturday and harry had the good idea to drum up a group for hockey...since Christine and I both share a great love of the sport we were immediately on board...anyone else interested in trying to get a group together to see the hurricanes play??...we should probably try to get it in soon, or maybe we wait a month or so and then little zack harry can come with!!

later taters....see you all this weekend!

Whit - count me in for hockey, definitely. Sorry your recovery has been so frustrating!

Matt - I knew you'd be sore in the morning after that spectacular bounce, but damn!!! :(B| I am seriously really glad that it rained the night before; I'm convinced that saved you from much worse. Please let us know ASAP about your leg. And no thanks necessary - we were happy to help. (Gave me a nice little excuse to kiss you on the mouth to boot, did you notice?) Your rig is all back in one piece, but I think Rob is going to have a little class with me on how to tell a reserve handle from a cutaway :P.

Take care and heal well, everyone.

I thought we were trying to discourage people from hurting themselves.

This gets out and we'll have people starting 180 toggle turns at 50 feet. :P

Hello all! I'm glad to hear that you're doing alright Matt. It sounds like things could've been a bit worse!

Right now it's 10:25 local time and I'm sitting on a park bench in front of the Twin Falls, Idaho Visitor Center, right at the top of the bridge. I left Moab at 8 this morning because the forecast for the next couple of days sucked and the weather here in TF was supposed to be pretty good. I rolled into TF at 2:30 to find the winds gusting over 20mph, even though the forecast was calling for 5. Now I'm freezing my ass off and the winds have picked up to the point where I'm worried about my computer blowing off of my lap... seriously :S Ohh, well, hopefully the rest of the week will be better and we'll get some jumpable weather!
Last night I walked up to Tombstone (390' E) at sunset & ended up walking down due to winds. On the way back down I ran into Jay Moledski who, aparently not scared off by the winds, was hiking up for a solo jump. He asked me and the guy I was walking down with to be his ground crew since he was there alone. We got back down to the parking lot and watched Jay throw a really nice gainer followed by a pretty kickass swoop (for a 280sq.ft. canopy). We went to dinner afterwards and had a pretty cool talk about the Base and swooping scene.

Here are links to some news segments from the ABC affiliate in Grand Junction Co. I shot the freefall footage and they did a kickass job of editing it together for their story. Check it out!

Eric -

Thanks for the updates! - keep 'em coming.

Hey, even if the weather's bad you can soak up the gorgeousness, scenery, geography and good tidings and hobnob with the big names, right?

(GOD I miss the West. In 5 years I want to be out there on an e-x-t-e-n-d-e-d vacation with Jason, Lisa, Paulie and Ruth, just climbing, hiking, 4X4ing, doing ground/packing/sewing if they need it, and getting lost for weeks on end.)

Which freefall footage did you do - the reporter's tandem or the other story? Did you get Jay's 280 ft2 swoop in those winds??

Miss you, but I have my Moab spork nearby at all times. Take care and HAVE FUN - this is quite a trip you're on. Make memories B|B|. And get as many of those memories as possible on film.

Meanwhile, while you're gone, Dave is acquiring some "Mad Skillz" as a rigger. Seriously - he amazed me this last Mirage repack. Looked way better than mine, and he's mastering those wicked closing tools.

Bolas - just STOP. :P Quit being cute - what's a kiss, after all?

Best,
Dawn

Matt,

Don't Fart around with your knee. Get an MRI ASAP and get the results read by an orthopedic specialist ASAP. Knee's are nothing to mess around with or take lightly. As I am PAINFULLY aware. If you caused any signigificant damage you only have a 3-4 week window to get it address surgically and still have a good recovery.

XRays will not find torn ligaments or muscle damage so get an MRI now. Get a proper diagnosis now not later.

Good Luck, and I hope it's nothing serious.
