  1. And not sure who is on Facebook, but we're trying to gather as many stories and pictures and memories of Pete in one place as we can. Just search for the Facebook Group: "Memories of Pete Luter". (don't know how to clicky if anyone can help). Please post anything there you can! all my love pete...you left this world better for having been in it...thank you - ever the spazz Your work is to discover your world, and then with all your heart, give yourself to it...
  2. Pete's family just sent an email out to everyone in his email account and asked to have it passed along... -------------------------------------------------------------- Sorry it took us this long, but we had a hard time figuring out Pete's Email Password. We're sending this out to everyone in his contacts list for those that may not know what has happened. Friday, March 19th , around 2 PM, Pete left this earth doing his favorite thing. There was a tangling malfunction with his parachute, and as far as we know- he went into a fast spin, most likely passing out for a time, and by the time he was able to cut away his main chute, it was too late for the backup chute to do any good. Please do not be sad for him, for he was doing what he loved when it happened - It was instant so there was no pain or suffering - we all know that if he had to go, this is the way he would have rather it happened than old age, hospitals and nursing homes. This quote from Leonardo da Vinci was taped to his computer's monitor, and nothing could be more fitting for pete - "When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return." I hope this makes it to everyone Pete kept in touch with, especially his European friends, we tried to call some of the phone #'s we found but most would not go through. Please pass this along to anyone that knew Pete that may not have been in touch with him through Email. As far as we know, there will be a memorial service in Roanoke Rapids, on Wednesday, March 24th at 2 PM - Calvary Baptist Church - 1405 Bolling Rd. at the intersection of Bolling Rd and Maple St. For more info, just search "Pete Luter Skydiving" or click the links below. More info will be posted through the rrdailyherald link probably by Monday Night http://www.rrdailyherald.com/articles/2010/03/20/news/breaking_news/doc4ba4f63b106e3175997428.txt http://www.urlfan.com/local/skydiver_plunges_to_death_in_pasco_county/337193025.html Thank you all for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers. And I'm going to leave Pete's Signature as it was: BLUE SKIES and DIRTY FLUES, BIRDMAN EARTH - ever the spazz Your work is to discover your world, and then with all your heart, give yourself to it...

  4. I was at Skyfest, and last year - AWESOME, this year NOT EVEN SORTOF AWESOME. If the event is meant to only focus on newer jumpers, great, then don't tell me that there will be TONS of organizers in EVERY discipline and then when I get there I get nada. Someone above said they jumped with freefly organizerS all day saturday: there was only one organizer (the badass Brad from skyventure Colorado who thanks to SVCO came as a vendor) and trying to get jumps with him was tough given the high demand on his time. As an aside, he is the ONLY reason I paid the $55 registration fee once I heard that there were going to be no other organizers in my discipline. And then to blame the "no-show" organizers for poor event planning: you must be correct, I'm sure that they are all mean and nasty "newby hating" LOs who don't get out of bed for less than $500 a day. Think about it for a moment: should it be expected that an organizer who is a draw for your event (bringing you additional business) should not only pay their expenses to get there, and to stay there (fine its a charity I could even see that), - but asking them to shell out close to $1000 to do work jumps is just insane (think about the cost of 8-10 jumps a day for 5-7 days at 24 a jump - shit adds up and thats not even talking a packer). I guess they are all douchebag assholes for not being made of money so that they could all afford a $4000 trip to raeford to work. Now, talking about everything else: ever heard "plan the dive, dive the plan"?? I completely agree with whoever above said that you'd be pissed if you showed up at a concert and half the bands weren't there. The website was never updated with changes (and I'm talking changes that occurred before the event started) and nothing was done to soften the blow of all the different no-shows. I know there are 3 sides to every story, but it seems very very strange that all the past DZs tell the exact same story about what happened and that none want anything to do with this boogie again. I'm sure that its because they hate new skydivers and cannot stand the idea of giving back to the sport. That must be it. EDIT: I do want to make sure that I say a big hell yeah to the vendors, volunteers and the DZ staff - while the boogie itself seemed to be scattered and all over the place (it really felt like it had been thrown together in a week) the vendors were KICK ASS as always, and the volunteers and staff rocked out in the heat and humidity with smiles on the whole time!!! - ever the spazz Your work is to discover your world, and then with all your heart, give yourself to it...

  7. Here is the trick, and for whatever reason they STILL haven't fixed it http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665737599 and notice that the price listed is on sale for $499 ($100 off full price), BUT under that in RED it says YOU SAVE $150...well i called them and said, "how do I get the extra $50 cause the website won't give it to me like it says..." and I was just super polite and played dumb. They would say, well its 100 off, and I would say, right, but it says 150, so I was trying to see what I needed to do to get the other $50 that you have advertised. And they would keep doing that for like 2-3 minutes (and I would just be polite and play dumb and keep saying the same thing like I didn't get it)...and finally they would say, I think its a typo. to which I said, but this is Sony, I mean, Sony, you wouldn't think there would be a typo on YOUR website, so it must be something I'm not clicking properly, can you help me figure it out...and then finally that one got confused by me being so confused so I said, well, is there anyway you could ask your supervisor or maybe I could talk to a supervisor, just to make sure, cause you've been really nice, and I'm just surprised that Sony would have a typo that they don't honor on their site (TOTALLY polite as shit)...and the person I talked to was like "of course" and put me on hold, came back a minute later and said that they would honor the $450 for me...and I bought 3 of them... free shipping and only sales tax :) The site still hasn't been fixed so call now! Thought I'd help :) - ever the spazz Your work is to discover your world, and then with all your heart, give yourself to it...

  10. This might sound a bit simplistic but the first rule I ever learned about buying gear (when the ink was still fresh on my A-license) was to never get into a transaction without a rigger. Call any loft - the one at your DZ, or a big loft like Chuting Star - for a small fee (at most) many will be willing to act as an intermediary....you give them the $$, the seller gives them the gear, after a full inspect to insure that everything is as described, money is released to seller and gear released to you.... The moderators here do an AWESOME job working to clear out the scumbags that prey on newer jumpers or those who might believe that they can get "the deal of a lifetime"...but we have to learn to be responsible buyers...I can promise you that I'm not handing over more than $50 to someone with no profile, no loft or dz to verify that this person is on the level, and any doubt whatsoever to whether I'm getting my gear or not... I've never had a single problem with the large numbers of transactions I've done through DZ.com (knock on wood) and don't see why this can't be true for everyone... - ever the spazz Your work is to discover your world, and then with all your heart, give yourself to it...
  11. Dave and I will be there :) Someone has to compete on a non-cross-braced after all...and count us in for dinner...now all we need is someone to drag in a shower trailer and we'll be in business....anyone....anyone?? thanks for the heads up Pia - ever the spazz Your work is to discover your world, and then with all your heart, give yourself to it...
  12. I have seen references to this in other threads but I think Rawa must have changed their design of the PC-101 box at some point because mine doesn't look like the one picture I've seen posted. Mine is almost perfectly rectangular (no cut in - see attached) I've heard people are fitting these with no problem...any pics or testimonials out there?? Thanks! whit - ever the spazz Your work is to discover your world, and then with all your heart, give yourself to it...
  13. I just got your zhills email and forwarded it to my message board for some mid-atlantic jumpers... Anyone have some suggestions on things we can write about or address from the skydiver point of view? I read the AOPA page and there are great ideas for pilots and Dave, your stuff to the Senators, etc. is fantastic, but are there any ideas for how to show the impact from the individual jumper's point of view? Thanks!! - ever the spazz Your work is to discover your world, and then with all your heart, give yourself to it...
  14. Thanks to you both!! These are exactly what I was looking for :) - ever the spazz Your work is to discover your world, and then with all your heart, give yourself to it...
  15. Ok, so I started this thread in general discussions and someone thought it was better suited for the Instructor forum. Here's the short of it... While mulling over some LLC documents for a different business of mine and talking to a family member about skydiving this weekend after thanksgiving dinner - it was brought to my attention that I didn't really know the legal/financial liability of an instructor on a student jump where something goes wrong? I mean what protection is there for the instructor if the worst happens on a student level jump? Can anything stand between the student or their family and your and your family's financial security? Of course this is something that no instructor would ever want to be a part of, litigation or not, but its something I felt warranted asking about. Anyone out there have any ideas or experience regarding this liability issue? Thanks! whit - ever the spazz Your work is to discover your world, and then with all your heart, give yourself to it...
