cutaway / to reserve rides survey

I did some test-jumping for the Canadian Army and suffered my second malfunction ( a total inversion on round a Military Freefall canopy).
Since I did not learn my lesson, I continued test-jumping and suffered two more malfunctions while test-jumping for the West German Army.

Rob,

That’s why they called it testing. :P And that is why you got the BIG bucks. B|

Could you share the figure please
How BIG?
Then and now.

It is de facto potential occupation for some.. rare some

For me that always depended on many factors. The complexity of the test, known prior history of the test item, number of test involved, who the test was for and my mood at the time. It ranged from as little as $50 to a high of $1500 and travel. It was fun for awhile but the more I learned the less fun it was. [:/]

3000 jumps, 3 reserve ride. No, 1, line knot.
No.2, , broken lines. and No. 3, "someone" grabbed my cut -away handle going out the door, and for the next 10,000 feet I had to think about it,and what to do with a total,..............

7,006 jumps. 3 cutaways. 3 reserve rides.

I'm not sure the first one should count. It was "back in the day" when squares were pretty new and we always heard that the closer you got to the ground the worse the problems got. So I cut away my Strato-star due to a break hang up. I wouldn't cut that away today.

No malfuntions in the last 20 years and over 4,000 jumps.

1400 jumps

1- Total on student gear (single operating system).
2- AAD misfire on student gear (cutaway the main after the reserve was out)
3- Broken suspension line (cutaway and reserve)
4- PCIT (reserve after fighting with the bridle for 3K)

2 cutaways & 4 rides (unless you want to count the cutaway after the reserve was out on no. 2)

Agreed!
I have seen one FXC 12000 miss-fire at 7,000 feet.

All the rest of the FXC "miss-fires" occurred below 3,000 feet and many "miss-fires" looked like less than 2,000 feet.
What any junior jumper is still doing in freefall - below 3,000 feet - is a mystery to me????????

sadly,,,If they fell into THAT category , not likely ...

mostly i was looking for the ratio of "direct to reserve" emergencies, as compared to main malfuctions which called for the chop,,, AS the first step,,, of the EPs

not every scenario which results in a reserve ride includes a cutaway..
would rather not think about low or illtimed cutaways,,,which left inadequate time, for reserve inflation...

Two cutaways, three reserve rides in 431. #1, lineover on a SOS student rig that I didn't pack, #2 (terminal RR - ouch) after a no pull when I was having some issues after transitioning from ripcord student rigs to BOC throwout, and #3, lineover I packed myself not so long ago :P
