Liz Truss, UK Conservative

Man who claims to represent the average Conservative Party member explains why he wouldn't ever vote for Rishi Sunak. Spoiler alert - it's exactly the reason you think it's gonna be.

It might be one of the most toxic side effects of the Brexit debate, specifically how much of it was around immigration and border control, that these people really seem to be freshly emboldened to share their views out loud in public.

He left all his archives to Cambridge.

Oh well. At least you are only objecting to his educational origins and not his ethnicity.

Well with Rishi Sunak as the new PM. Where will the rest of the commonwealth and the EU get its laughs?

Well, having created the current mess by trying to lower taxes on the rich they're clearly about to try and pay for the damage by cutting benefits and services for the poor, so there's a certain dark humour in that. But I get your point, without the circus level clown show below the existential dread of their anti living human being policies does kinda drown out the comedy.

Did you mean.....personal party is what the leadership needs?

Personal partying  i.e. Partygate is what started this mutiny..I have it on well founded sources. That republican leaders are drinking excellent Bourbon. Discussing lying to parliament, partying, treating party money as if its your own.

Wondering why it took so long to kick the British out of America with uppity standards like that.

It seems that the Conservative party membership aren't happy about being denied a vote in the leadership election

I'd take that article with a major pinch of salt, but it's funny the Brexiteers quoted who'd leave the party because of Sunak, a man who was already campaigning for Brexit back when his mum still packed his lunches.

So since he's not a remainer, what problem would a big bunch of Brexit voters all have with Rishi Sunak? Answers on the back of a postcard;)

There are about 173,000 members, and about 415,000 Labour Party members. Out of about 68 million total population. Democracy is a funny thing.....

I think Liz just beamed in her farewell speech from an alternate dimension ...

OK but aren't British citizens to blame as well? They bought the bill of goods called Brexit and voted for it.

Now the actual rubber meets the road details are known. A 3-4.5% drag on GDP  that will be an anchor on the economy for decades. It's not like a King's commission has been ordered to delve into the lies of Brexit.

For the entirety of the situation, yes. For Truss being completely oblivious about the damage her ideas would cause even after they've caused that damage, no.

The interesting thing is that Britain could still rejoin the single market. Leaving the single market was not the question that was voted on, and lots of people voted for Brexit thinking we would stay in the single market (or could somehow keep our trade terms intact without being officially in it - which was obviously a complete fantasy but still).

The Conservatives would never do it, but Labour could, unfortunately so far they've appeared utterly terrified of proposing anything that might annoy the Brexiteer hardcore.

Even better than credibility, they have votes. Enough votes that if it had come down to another party member election Boris the spider would be spinning his web again.

"And we set out a vision for a low-tax, high-growth economy that would take advantage of the freedoms of Brexit." From Liz Truss resignation speech. So still peddling to those with heads in the sand.

It would be fine for the conservatives to say that reduced economic growth is a small price to pay. For the freedom from euro-regs. Freedom from Brussels. But nobody can ignore the costs to British exporters. The cost to British consumers. Unfortunately denying that you made a mistake is a part of human nature. i.e. Putin, trump, etc. and our resident troll. BTW is he on a time out again?
