Say goodbye to Jared Fogle, Subway pitchman!

I guess I don't find that very offensive. I don't even know is Nigg is black.

It is a stupid joke, but I don't consider it a particularly offensive one.

I get it. I don't either, other than it is just one more way to prolong the racism we have throughout the world.

What's the saying, "Manage the pennies and the dollars take care of the selves."?

In these days of the "end of political correctness," when it's just fine to say joke about whatever the fuck you want to (as long as the guy you're talking to is less powerful or weaker than you are), there's nothing to call out.

FIFY

Growing up in a culturally diverse city with a history of emotionally charged racial issues, we found humor as a positive outlet to address our differences without ignoring them. In retrospect, it's as if laughing at ourselves belittled the power behind racism that had divided us for so long. I think people like Chris Rock understand that - which is why he's been so successful, especially in diffusing a variety of emotionally charged issues through humor - most recently, the academy awards.

Now I understand some people just don't get it - their first reaction is to go on the offensive and try to shut people down - forcing the issues into the subtle alcoves of society hoping that it'll just go away. But where has that gotten us? Nowhere. Racial issues are just as emotionally charged as ever, and the only way it's gonna stop is either through humor or war - black midgets fighting white midgets.

Absolutely. If you are walking around with 2 convictions already and decide to commit another crime [and get caught], you are just too stupid to be part of society.

Yep.

Did he actually abuse kids? Or was he only guilty of wanting to?

And shoplifters who get life cause it happened to be their third conviction. Clearly more deserving of prison space than child molesters.

what if the shoplifter's first two convictions were child molestation and the 3rd was just shoplifting?......

I would hope that after the second conviction for child molestation, the offender would be behind bars forever anyway.

What SkyDekker is complaining about are the three strikes laws that don't discriminate how serious the offenses actually were. If we had sensible sentencing instead of sentencing based on baseball, you wouldn't have the situations at either extreme (two time murderer up on a jaywalking charge, and three time shoplifter getting put away for life).

Hi rehmwa,

Quote

and the 3rd was just shoplifting?......

It really depends upon the laws & the judge.

A guy in high school ( back in the 50's ) did a year at MacLaren for stealing just one french fry. He had been on some form of juvenile probation and had been warned to not get into any more trouble. While walking along the beach at the Oregon coast, he reached out and took one french fry from a small kid. The kid's dad grabbed him & held him until the authorities came. He ended up back before a judge, who gave him the year inside.

Then he should have been adequately sentenced for the first two convictions, instead of being released early to make space for petty offenders like drug users and other shoplifters.

Oh, there's more to it than that. How about you tell me?

Because I asked the question. Your text above would lend to you knowing a great deal about the circumstances.

So, in your logic, asking a question leads you to believe that I know the answer to something that has made you speechless with anger, but you don't know the answer, so you really shouldn't be upset because you don't know the story.

Personally - I reserve the hatred and speechlessness for when I think I shave a good grasp on what the actual offense is. You know - like most or all of the facts?

Question - What might a helium atom (1 nucleus, 2 electrons) look like if the proton and the electron exchanged masses? That is, if the electron has a mass of 1 amu and the proton a mass of 0.000549 amu. [Think back to Thomson's atom].

I should know that now because I asked you, right?

That's the attitude, 2 possessions of MJ and 1 shoplifting charge is much more serious than molesting children.

I never said anything about what he actually did - you were the one that brought it up - so, obviously you have knowledge about it and are trying to play your stupid little games again.

You're the one that brought up abusing children, as if the child pornography wasn't atrocious enough.:S

But if you want to defend this guy, that's on you.

I'm just tired of playing your games. You hardly ever reciprocate the effort of those that reply to you - and then when they call you out on your bullshit you either runaway or start rambling on about something else - just like Amazon used to do.

I'm just not really interested in entertaining your lazy posts anymore.

You tell me? Community service for the first two and the death penalty for the shoplifting?

YES - you and DanG gave nailed the 'serious' answer to my tongue in cheek question. 3 strikes is stupid. We need to sentence each crime adequately. (unfortunately, that might still result in additional overcrowding, but the philosophy of what you both noted is sound).

any law that 'sounds' good because of the sports analogy should be questioned for lack of validity

I propose the Slam Dunk Law. Anyone caught stealing items which, when stacked up, are higher than a regulation basketball hoop should be sentenced to life in prison.

This would be an amendment to by First Down Law, which states that anyone who can throw his stolen goods more than ten yards will be found not guilty.
