One GA Senator's Assessment

Recommended Posts

I believe David Perdue is approaching his job with the correct perspective.

Quote

As I see things after 11 weeks, we have three crises facing our country. I don't use the word crisis lightly, but really believe each of these problems has risen to the crisis level.

First, we have a global security crisis, and the world has become very dangerous over the past six years. Iran is supporting the Shia militia in Iraq, propping up Assad in Syria, and funding Hezbollah in Lebanon and terrorism around the world. It is also on the verge of gaining access to a nuclear weapons capability. Russia is showing unacceptable aggression and is violating international treaties and laws in Crimea and Ukraine. ISIS, or the Islamic State, has called for a Caliphate and is controlling significant territory in Iraq and Syria. They also have allies like Boko Haram in Nigeria. On top of all that, China is becoming ever more aggressive in the South China Sea.

We face asymmetric threats like ISIS and al Qaeda, and symmetric threats like Russia, Iran and China. It is indeed a very dangerous world partly because we have not been consistent in our foreign policy over the past six years.

Second, as I have been highlighting for the past two years, we have a serious financial crisis. Our debt is well past the tipping point. With $18 trillion of federal debt today, if interest rates were to move to their 30-year average of 5.5 percent, our interest expense would already be almost one trillion dollars. This is why we are past the tipping point, and must deal with this right now. As a member of the Budget Committee, I am fighting hard to achieve a balanced budget and to develop a long-term plan to grow a surplus to pay down this debt over time.

Third, as Jonathan Turley, a George Washington University Constitution Law professor, writes, this president has created a Constitutional crisis by using executive orders and regulatory mandates to bypass Congress and run our country unilaterally. I believe his executive order declaring executive amnesty for 5 million illegal immigrants violates our Constitution. That's why I voted to not allow funding for the implementation of this illegal amnesty. A federal court in Texas filed an injunction halting this action and is currently awaiting an appeal.

Given these three areas of crisis, I am focused on adding value to the debate to deal with each of these immediately. My commitment is to put Georgians and your family first. I've already focused on keeping my campaign promises, and have introduced the Fair Tax, cosponsored a Constitutional balanced budget amendment, introduced term limits for politicians, supported the Keystone jobs bill, and cosponsored legislation to fully repeal Obamacare.

Maybe they didn't teach you this in college but, business operates on the profit motive. It is called rational.

He's yet another wealthy, white, republicans trying to convince us he isn't.
Politics as usual of course.:|

You do know that there are more rich democrates in congress than republicans, correct?

That was a total coincidence.

I think that Democrats, hearing of the Golden Sentences of Democrates, simply go for the gold.

Based on the impact Greece is having on the European Union and economy, I 'd much rather have a Nigerian/Hawaiian born president than a Greek born president.

If there's a Democrates in the Senate, then I want to SEE HIS BIRTH CERTIFICATE

You haven't made a point.

For all I know your point is that democrats are smarter at working the free market than republicans and therefor there are more rich democrats than republicans.
