GD64******Violence is what you get when violence is touted as the solution to problems. That applies to terrorists, cops, criminals, and scared Floridians "standing their ground".
Penn Jillette said some interesting stuff about Muslims. It's been frequently said that people on the left won't criticize Islam, though they have no problems criticizing Christians, Mormons, Jews, etc. Then he said that he himself criticizes religion. Except for Islam.
Reason is that he wants to live. That people - himself included - are fraid to criticize or satirize Islam is the greatest indictment of all.
That you would lump is the "prophet is avenged" for some publiction with a person using deadly force against an attacker is understandable. You're scared, too.
lawrocket........there is a recent vid out there (internet) with John Cleese saying the same thing almost word for word.
Here it is, but I'm not sure he was totally serious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ULvKtcmWgo
They zero in on Islam at 1:30.

When Muslims start knocking on my door the same way that Christians do, I'll start criticizing them. Right now I consider extremist Christians more of a threat to me and my family than extremist Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews or Rastafarians.
BTW
Your post here demonstrates how twisted those who hate can get
I agree - those Westboro Baptist CHRISTIANS are sure a bunch of haters.
Yeah but they don't go around KILLING/SHOOTING people.
I think a little research on your part will find a long list of Christians who have gone around killing non-believers - or even those who believe in the "wrong" type of Christianity.
Hey, I know the history, but it was YOU that specifically called out the Westboro Baptist Church people. Honestly, those pukes are like annoying gnats that you just want to slap away. Compare that to these extremist Muslims that just want to fucking kill you, like Africanized bees.

Hey ryoder.......thanks for that. Yes, I see what you mean about totally serious? However, my first impression (and after watching a couple of more times), still "think" he means that, but as a simple Mercian I could be missing the English dry, witty humor completely?
A very talented man, and I knew you appreciated his work after seeing a recent post of yours "about the war"

The French seem to feel differently. France has had a long history of terrorist attacks and already have a lot of feeling stirred up about Muslim immigration. I think the French will be taking a rapid swing to the far right after this.
Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !
The French have been n a lot of internal stuff over the Muslims. They don't like immigrants there, either. Muslim unemployment is high. Muslims consider themselves on the outskirts of society. Picture black men in America. Add in white anxiety. And add a dose of Muslim religious violence and you've got Muslims in France. Actually, Muslims in Europe (though France is particularly well suited with its colonial history in North Africa).
This does serve a notice, though. The image that the Muslims are after America because of its interventions should be pretty well shattered. America was the target because America was the top dog. That cartoonist in the Netherlands, was it? Dead. A mass attack in France.
America is not the target because of what it believes or stands for. Anyone and anyplace is a target that does not believe or stand for. I agree with Tom - there will probably be a far-right response. Last year's elections brought a very large shift to the center-right. The Socialists did win Paris but this was different in that traditional left strongholds like Tours and Limoges and even Villejuif swing center-right. (Also note: center-right out there is Olbermann/Maddow in the US.)
The rightward swing was already going. I believe this will lead to a further rightward swing. Yes, right and secular are not mutually exclusive.

melch.......as far as "no one saw this coming".....well, just a few day's ago (New Years Eve) The press to include the Guardian and BBC reported the "940 burned vehicles as a 12% improvement over last year". Huh?
In spite of 90,000 police, gendarmes, soldiers and emergency service workers to protect the public. The articles used words such as high rise structures and the like, to be politically sensitive to the Muslims where this primarily took place.
I want to know where Kalland was during that time period? Also, any visible burns on his hands or anywhere else
So basically the fires were already stoked up (yes, I know this has been happening yearly for awhile),and what apparently changed this year was, very few arrests were made to hopefully pacify the community.
We now have radical Islam intimidating the "ruling elite", the media, and their subjects on a global scale. I would guess many people in the above mentioned saw it coming but were intimidated into silence by fear.

I've never before thought kallend was saying something unreasonable. I don't think he actually believes that the Westboro assholes are actually worse than people who come in and blow away innocents.
Just examples of Christian assholes. Plenty more where that came from. N. Ireland, abortion clinic bombers...

Wasn't so long ago that Irish Catholics wanted to kill me, and Boston, NY and SF Catholics funded them.
History is replete with Christians killing in the name of religion.
Whether a Muslim, Christian, Jewish or Hindu extremist kills you, you are just as dead.
I have equal disdain for all religious extremists, I don't cherry pick.

but hey let's not miss any opportunity to knock gun owners
I didn't mention guns or gun owners.
Apparently it's YOU who equates gun owners to those who resort to violence as a solution to life's problems.
so the scared Floridian's standing there ground was in reference to what?
never mind I will "deal with it" sir
I reckon I ain't smart enough to figure out what the hell you meant by that

Apparently.
In the United States, stand-your-ground law states that an individual has no duty to retreat from any place they have lawful right to be and may use any level of force, including lethal, if they reasonably believe they face an imminent and immediate threat of serious bodily harm or death.
Use of lethal force can be with a crossbow, an axe, a bare hand...
You leaped to a conclusion based on your own insecurity.

Why do you support people under attack being harmed and unable to defend themselves?
Would you allow someone to assault you without defending yourself?

melchUnfortunate incident. For those that get heated and have very strong opinions about gun culture in America, what are your thoughts?
Anyone who believes a CCW holder with a gun at this facility would have somehow stopped this is, I think, an idiot. Sorry, but that is, in fact, my opinion on the subject.
The person -may- have gotten a shot off. The person -may- have taken one of the terrorist out. However that would ultimately not have appreciably affected the outcome here.
A surprise attack by people willing to die for their cause will not be deterred in any way, shape, or form by even the best trained security forces on the planet.

normissWe'll just have to wait out criminals and terrorists I guess.
Two COMPLETELY different subjects.
I have repeatedly and said for years self defense is fine. However, there is a world of difference between a guy climbing in a bedroom window and a group of terrorists with automatic weapons.
As an individual, you have a -chance- of defending yourself with a gun at home and I am all for allowing you to do that. Go for it. It's your right and possibly your duty.
You, as an individual, have next to a zero chance of changing the outcome of a terrorist attack like we're talking about here.
