A school district is calling for a Utah State Board of Education member to resign after her social media post implied that a basketball player was transgender, leading to such intense harassment that the district sought police protection for the child.

So the top bills going through the Tennessee legislature recently:

SB 2636 - requires all retailers to sell only warm beer.  Cold beer would be outlawed.
HB 878 - allows state clerks to refuse to certify marriages if it goes "against their beliefs" (i.e. if the people are gay, or black, or Jewish)
HB 1605 - bans display of the Pride and BLM flags in schools, but allows display of the Nazi and confederate flags

THIS is what republican politicians think is important to spend their time on.

The Senator behind this bill was severely injured after being hit by a drunk driver 2 years ago. This bill seeks to make it less convenient for people to drink and drive. hence the restriction on cold beer in convenience stores and limits on number of drinks in a restaurant/bar without the presence of a designated driver.

I think the bill is bullshit, but a senator or representative taking up a bill for an issue that has very closely affected them is not really "news." Other than maybe the "dog bite man" variety.

It is off to committee in the Senate. It appears to be dead in the House. Highly unlikely this will ever become law.
