Why do we want to be like these Countries?

Recommended Posts

that's why i quoted several sources and several surveys/articles.

When you see consistent results from various sources, it gives credibility to the the information.

you disagree with that?

Or perhaps you have other surveys that you can quote that consistently show the USA as the best place to live......?

As judged from what scale or prism?

The filter these opinions are formed from are flawed IMO

Not yours I guess

I agree with you, at least to some extent. Many times when you look at these things they have set up the measurement criteria based on preconcieved ideas of what is good.

I saw one that ranked health and one of the criteria was whether or not health care was nationalized. They also fail to disclose, or put it in Bible-print footnotes that nobody reads, that there are very few measures that are conducted in exactly the same manner in all places.

I prefer comparing things that are harder to tweak, or at least more difficult to lie about - say for instance GDP per capita, or purchasing power using average wages and a standard list of consumer goods.

If a pollster picks and chooses their measurement criteria carefully, they can make most anybody look good or bad. Scrutinize very carefully the numbers from any organization with an agenda that includes social engineering.

To a point I agree with your several sources comments. However, scanning through them it seems to me that most of them come from the same view point.

As for surveys? Dont really care, I think most of them supporting any view are biased because they are based on premises that that tend to supprt what you are looking at

Example
If you have the mind set the gov run HC is the best standard you would most likely frame your survey based on that premise. That then would slant that survey to support that countries with Gov run HC treat their people better and that would set the survey results

I do know that high taxes and huge gov give aways to the people lead to what is happening to those countries in the links provided. Many want us to go the same direction

Why? It is failing

it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

Pretty much, yes. A number of surveys or consensus opinion based on the same assumptions can still give the same wrong results.

Another good example is any attempt to portrays this country's freedom of the press as more restrictive than Central American (or any Latin American) nations. There is clear bias in such findings.

Now, if you accept that France has a retirement age of 60, it's going to score better than the US or UK. At least until it's bankrupt. And while one might measure the quality of life for the lowest common denominator, I'm more interested in the quality of life for those who actually try.

Please note that individual countries are only a sub-set of Europe.

It would be a bit like Euro-trash asking why they'd want to be like "America" and then using Mexico, Haiti and Nicaragua as examples.

Are you seriously saying:

"Spain is to Europe as Mexico is to North America?"

I think some Spaniards might be highly upset with you right now.

I live in Spain and have for the last twenty odd years, I own several businesses,
believe me that asshole socialist Zapatero has put the country back to the economic
era of Franco, in fact worse, Spain now has the highest unemployment in Europe
whilst All he does is create new ministries to give jobs to his hangers on.
But what the fuck does he care, he'll draw his salary for the rest of his life, (Vitalicia)

So as a Spanish citizen I'm not upset with you comparing us to mexico.

germany isn't a failure :)

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/financetopics/financialcrisis/8160999/EU-rescue-costs-start-to-threaten-Germany-itself.html

"Germany cannot keep paying for bail-outs without going bankrupt itself," said Professor Wilhelm Hankel, of Frankfurt University. "This is frightening people. You cannot find a bank safe deposit box in Germany because every single one has already been taken and stuffed with gold and silver. It is like an underground Switzerland within our borders. People have terrible memories of 1948 and 1923 when they lost their savings."

This I can confirm. I was forced to bring all my gold, jewels and block of shares secretly to the Caymans. Sh*t German bank safes. >:(

According to the recent G20 summit it is because you Germans aren't spending your money on US goods and services that the world is in a mess:D:D[:/]

Please can I have a new rig? Remember you will be helping to make the world a better place. I will skip on the Cypres as it is German product and take an Argos instead.

Can you rationalize how paying for bail-outs makes Germany a failure?

Germany wallows in 'golden autumn'

Behind the unfolding horror story of Ireland, Greece, Portugal and Spain, something is stirring in Europe which promises a rather better future than the grim, crisis-ridden headlines of the moment might suggest. Germany, the powerhouse of the European economy, is growing again, and what's more, it is domestic demand, not net trade, which is driving the renaissance.
