As a metaphor, Obama is a commie. As a metaphor, Reagan and GWB are Nazis. Now, let's be realistic; Obama is doing and advocating things that are lightly socialist, getting shot down on most. Reagan and GWB did some things that were fascist/corporatist, I can list several, but that doesn't make them full on Nazis.

The sky isn't falling, we don't have a kingdom w/o a parlaiment, it takes far more than a president to get things done. The best way to look at politics that you disagree with is to realize that your party was so bad that the other side looked better. Complain about the other or fix your own.

The "birth certificate" one for sure.

Most of the others are little bullshit blown way out of proportion. The flag lapel pin, indoctinating kindergarteners in homosexuality and bowing to the King of Saudi are the top three in that area.

I can't say for certain about the others, mainly because I don't follow the "tin-foil-hat" crowd and their garbage all that closely.

I didn't vote for him, and I don't like a lot of what he does or wants to do, but this crap undermines valid criticism.
His supporters just point to that kind of junk and lump it with the valid objections to distract people from the real issues.

It's really, really simple: Anyone who gives the slightest shit about this, well, shit wasn't going to vote for Obama in a million years anyway. But most importantly, none- NONE - of the crucial middle of the road "swing-voters" - the same ones who have decided the last 3 presidential elections - will care about any of this shit when it comes time to decide who to vote for. Which means you're just pissing into the wind. So go right ahead and keep pissing. It has no more effect than a dog barking at a passing truck.

I'm hoping they (the Dems) get their asses kicked royally. Not because the Reps are any better, but just to maybe jolt some segment of politicians towards a more centrist and possibly bipartisan approach.

Unfortunately what I suspect will happen is what has happened every time the pendulum has swung recently. They will be totally fucking full of themselves and act just as badly as their predecessors.

They all act like rude bratty kids who play tit for tat each time it is their turn, rather than behave like the wise adult leaders we need.

Haven't decided if I am going to VOTE (Vote Out The Elected) and vote wholesale against all incumbents, or vote straight Republican. One thing for absolutely certain, I will in no way cast a vote for any incumbent Democrat.

There needs to be a swing to get back to the intentions and letter of the Constitution

But to your points? I think you nailed it

I think the only chance we have is to keep changing the members regularly so they have to come home and live with the laws they have created

Here's the problem - The Reps got royally kicked last time. Dems are in.

Now, if the Dems are royally kicked this time (deservedly so, even as much as the Reps last time) - do we now have two groups of people in office that are 'recalibrated'?

absolutely not - if the Dems get kicked, the Reps memory span will be reduced to less than 2 years and we start all over again.

the solution is to just keep everybody in antagonistic balance/gridlock so they just plain STOP DOING STUFF

So we have to keep both houses gridlocked, and the president needs to be someone that's against both parties.

A little political constipation is needed rather than the spending diarrhea we've have for the last couple decades

ok, that's funny - once they are in, even if they get out, they still don't have to live with the same crap they imposed on the rest of us.....

the reason i posted this (yes i copied it) was becuause i found it interesting. Are some points moot? Yes. However, to you not wearing a flag pin on the lapel, or covering his heart during the national anthem may mean little, but as a service member it is an insult. This man is the Commander of all armed forces for the US. Not showing any sort of patriotism is a smack in the face to those of us who wish to. I take pride in this country (as i'm sure many of you do too), and i show it by doing the little things...the highest representitive of this country should do the same.

I also agree that if/when the seats go to the republicans it will be more of the same (as it's been this way for decades), but to get a truely central party started and elected in this country is next to impossible, and i believe something needs to change.

That would have to be a mighty sensitive service member.

Like calling the president of the country a socialist, apparently. I imagine there are some people who take that as an insult!

I dont believe I ever called the president a socialist. I did post part of an article that i found interesting, but if you can find where I called him a socialist please let me know and i'll go haze myself. Look at the first post, where i said, "dont agree with some of the extreems such as saying we are a socialist state"

As far as being a sensitive service member, that's bullshit. I'm expected to do certain things during the playing of the National Anthem, pledge, etc, as dirrected to me by regulations written and enforced by "higher"....and it doesn't get any higher than the CIC. Why, then, should he not be expected to do the same??? You are implying that the "do as i say, not as i do" is a correct form of leadership.

I sort of agree ... but displays of patriotism does not a patriot make. It's what's in your heart that matters not what is on the T.V, Newspaper photograph or recruitment poster.

i see what you are saying, but i'd also find it hard to believe that a true patriot (whatever you want to define it as) would not display some level of patriotism...even in the small things. You can go on and fake patriotism and will be called out on it later...or you can show no respect for your country, it's colors, or it's anthem...which IMO then you are not a patriot. You can give strongly worded speeches, etc, but if you dont follow through with what you are saying, it is nothing but a show of fake patriotism...which again, you would be called out on. The multiple photographs and accounts of the current CIC, to me, displays an utter lack of patriotism for my/his country...not to mention my own dealings with him prior to election when he visited Iraq and displayed absolutely no respect for the troops that were over there, unless a camera (with a significant media label on it) happened to be around at the time.

It sounds like you're looking at him to show token acts of patriotism in order to feel he's patriotic. If he did those things, it would make him a patriot? Seems to me like every waking moment of his life right now is dedicated to improving this country. It might not be in a way you agree with, but he's put himself out there to try. Every bit of his life is scrutinized, analyzed, criticized. Was GWB a good president because he never missed an opportunity for knee-jerk patriotism? Do the actions and efforts of the current CIC mean so little to you, if they are not accompanied by "the little things"? Maybe he has a different idea of patriotism than you do? Is your idea of patriotism the only valid one?

since you brought it up, what defines a patriot, IYO?

Say what you mean. Do what you say.

"Valid" criticism? What do you consider "valid"?
Are any of those things on the list untrue? Were those items simply created out of thin air? Were they "twisted" in some way? Probably yes...somewhat similar to all subjects of political debate and very definitely similar to what lawyers do in court every day.
Statements, like statistics can be manipulated in many ways...but you need at least a grain-of-truth starting point.

BTW, how many of those "little things" are you willing to overlook before they pile up and and become an indicator of the real make-up of a person?
