I just figured in the name of Fair and Balanced, there should be some sort of creative, condesending name calling.

While what he did is illegal.. and needs to be dealt with accordingly..... Has he campaigned on a platform of Family Values or Morality???

Family values and morality? I'm not sure.
But, without even checking, I would be willing to bet you 10 gallons of Blue Bunny ice cream that he DID campaign on a platform of upholding and enforcing the laws of the state of New York.

What about the chief law enforcemnet officer of New York vilating New York Law?

If it was the governor of Nevada, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

While no man should be above the law, there are laws and then there are laws. Laws about prostitution are based on a subjective bullshit set of morals. As far as I know about this case, nobody died, nobody went to the hospital and no transactions took place that all parties didn't agree to.

Spitzer has made a name for himself going after transactions that both parties agreed to, but affected other parties. The after close trading allowed by mutual fund companies to hedge funds is definitely the more prominent. Microsoft monopoly abuse is another.

Illegal prostitution definitely has losers, including the sex slaves and the taxpayers. If it's not legal in NY, the former AD should not be engaging in it.

So, in a way, what this guy did effectively shut down this prostitution ring.

He was just doing it to save us all. ;)

The same way DEA Agent Elvis Presley ate those pills to keep them off the street. Elvis took them all for you and me.

Hey, it was good enough for Jesus.;)

Don't forget to add that just last year His Reverence Spitzer elevated the severity for punishing simple solicitation from a class B to a class A misdemeanor. So anyone who makes the claim that "laws about prostitution are based on a subjective bullshit set of morals" should be clear that Spitzer himself was of a distinctly different opinion, at least publicly.

All of which puts him in a significantly higher level of hypocrisy than Clinton or even some of the holier-than-thou Republicans. He's putting people in jail for doing the same exact thing he feels entitled to do himself. That's much worse than simply "talking the talk but not walking walk" hypocrisy.

Why is prostitution illegal in the US?

Stupid IMHO. Your legal system and police spends time and resources on something that always will be there and if it was legal you could far better control it in regard to health issues.

Just does not make sense......

Agreed. Interesting fact - since 1986, when Nevada started mandatory testing of all legal prostitutes for HIV, not a single case has been seen.

Could it be that there is strong hypocritical mentality when it omes to sex in the US? I sometimes get this impression looking from afar...

Even though everyone does it and sex sells more than just about any other product in the world, it's still look upon as taboo and sinful by us god fearing folk (or that is my understanding of it). The world always has been and always will be full of hypocrites who pound their fists while screaming that something is wrong, while doing it themselves behind the scene. I never have a problem with people living their lives as they see fit, I just have a problem those who act "better" than everyone else while sinking lower in "private" than most. He is part of the problem......

Shoulda been in Nevada. or R.I.>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostitution_in_Nevada. Mexico is more fun tho. If it flys, floats or fucks it's cheaper to rent em.;)

"Never talk when you can nod, and never nod when you can wink, and never write an e-mail because it's death. You're giving prosecutors all the evidence we need," Elliot Spitzer, in an interview with ABC News.

$5,500 an Hour??? WOW!!! Couldn’t he just get a an intern and save ALOT of hassle and cash. That would NOT have even been illegal.

Would have been much easier to call the secretary and say "Could you please send in the Intern wearing the Blue Dress."

Prostitute is such a harsh word, He should have referred to her as his "Stress Relief Consultant".:D:D:D

It is always nice to see the Holier than Thou Hypocrites get caught pants down.

i was just wondering,,, whose money was he spending????

if it's out of his own pocket... then he's a jerk
if it's out of the pocket of N Y State taxpayers...i . e. "expense account money"... then he's a scoundrel...AND a jerk

WHY do these guys do SUCH things...
High political office... certainly under the microscope of scrutiny,, and you arrange for a
lady to come to your Hotel room... while in D. C. for business...????
that's basic stupidity and sure fire political suicide...

I was also wondering ,,, doesn't he have aides and other staff members,, whose OWN lives,
and even jobs, hinge on this guys' behavior.???

don't THEY see what was going on,,, and put a stop to it.?????
or is it a case of "don't ask Don't tell"...what a mess.
as a new yorker ,, i am damn sure mad...,,,
5,500 bucks?????..... for sex ???
man I just paid my local NY state income and property taxes,,,,in roughly that same amount...
and if this is what those hard earned dollars were spent on...:o>:(
then
i want a refund!!!!!>:(>:(

Living within the Albany broadcast area I hear news about Spitzer a lot, prolly would have voted for him if I was a NY resident as he succeeded a powerful incumbent republican Governor. But this guy's feet should be held to the fire, As state attorney general he was a champion of cracking down on corruption in the corporate, govt., and private sectors. He was feared and hated on Wall st. He began his tenure by ousting corrupt government officials and went so far as to use State Troopers to spy on rival Republican senate leader Joe Bruno suspected of using govt. resources for his own personal use.He had a nasty reputation of being a "stream roller" crushing his political rivals with tactics like that of a prosecutor.

So he's another democrat that has disappointed his supporters by being drunk on his own power and making an extremely poor judgement call. It is fitting that he get ousted not for his sexual activities but for the fact that be betrayed his supporters- as should any politician.
Beware of the collateralizing and monetization of your desires.

It's likely his money - like nearly anyone who runs for Governor or AG in a major state, he isn't short on cash.

He used to be a client of Jim Cramer (Mad Money) when he ran a hedge fund. In fact, his need for money for a campaign nearly collapsed the fund due to coinciding with the LTCM meltdown

Why is prostitution illegal in the US?

Because so many on the Right believe that having fun is a sin, and because quite a few on the Left believe that porn and prostitution are a form of sexism (see Amazon's recent posting on misogony)

If Spitzer just increased the penalties for it, this is not a valid defense to use.

Just do not characterize me in the same light.

I think it should be legalized everywhere.. regulated.. and taxed accordingly. It is one field that women have always excelled in and in its simpler forms does not take a lot of education to perform. BUT like everything else on the higher levels where the rewards are high a very good education is a must...the movers and shakers who pay the big bucks are not just paying for sex.. they are paying for the experience and an educated mind is an essential component of the job.
