You can relax Marc. The sky is not falling, it's just the sea rising creating an illusion. I'm sure you'll be safe hiding out in SD. At least until the left wing coastal elites fleeing the oceans crowd your sort out.....

I think you're forgetting that in the Chicken Little story it was one person making the claim. You need a new phrase for when it's the entire global scientific community. Try calling it "groupthink", you'll get better reactions.

Sorry buddy, wrong again. I'm not sure if you're trying to make a point that because there's ice that global warming is a farce but here you go:

Ok, I'll use your source for the material you posted, the Polar Portal a data publication site for Danish Researchers:

...it has been much warmer than average in the high Arctic since October though there have also been some periods of extreme cold...

How Many Swimming Pools of Water is Greenland losing Each Year?

And here's the real one for discussion about why your map shows what it does, that there was a slow-down this year because of the snow coverage from several hurricanes:

What exactly makes you think NASA a farce? I'd really love to hear this..

They disagree with his political agenda, of course. People like Rush start from "here's my agenda" then work backwards to see what parts of math, science, history have to be labeled "farce" to prevent any cognitive dissonance.

You see this in all sorts of groups - anti-vaxxers, 9/11 truthers, Apollo hoaxers, even flat-earthers. You might think "how can ANYONE think the Earth is flat?" but once you are willing to dismiss NASA as a big farce, it gets a lot easier.

Denver tied its all-time high-temperature record of 105 degrees on June 28.
Mount Washington, N.H., tied its all-time warmest low temperature of 60 degrees on July 2.
Burlington, Vt., set its all-time warmest low temperature ever recorded of 80 degrees on July 2.
Montreal recorded its highest temperature in recorded history, dating back 147 years, of 97.9 degrees (36.6 Celsius) on July 2. The city also posted its most extreme midnight combination of heat and humidity.
Ottawa posted its most extreme combination of heat and humidity on July 1.

The dome of high pressure set to develop this weekend over the eastern US is IMPRESSIVE. Current foretasted strength would make this the strongest ridge of high pressure on record for this time of year over the last 30 years.

Europe
Excessive heat torched the British Isles late last week. The stifling heat caused roads and roofs to buckle, the Weather Channel reported, and resulted in multiple record highs:

Scotland provisionally set its hottest temperature on record. The U.K. Met Office reported Motherwell, about 12 miles southeast of Glasgow, hit 91.8 degrees (33.2 Celsius) on June 28, passing the previous record of (32.9 Celsius) set in August 2003 at Greycrook. Additionally, Glasgow had its hottest day on record, hitting 89.4 degrees (31.9 Celsius).
In Ireland, on June 28, Shannon hit 89.6 degrees (32 Celsius), its record.
In Northern Ireland,
Belfast hit 85.1 degrees (29.5 Celsius) on June 28, its record.
Castlederg hit 86.2 degrees (30.1 Celsius) on June 29, its record

Eurasia
A large dome of high pressure, or heat dome, has persistently sat on top of Eurasia over the past week, resulting in some extraordinarily hot weather:

Tbilisi, Georgia: On July 4, the capital city soared to 104.9 degrees (40.5 Celsius), its all-time record.
Yerevan, Armenia: On July 2, the capital city soared to 107.6 degrees (42 Celsius), a record high for July and tying its record for any month.
Several locations in southern Russia topped or matched their warmest June temperatures on record on the 28th.

Middle East
Quriyat, Oman, posted the world’s hottest low temperature ever recorded on June 28: 109 degrees (42.6 Celsius).

These various records add to a growing list of heat milestones set over the past 15 months:

In April, Pakistan posted the hottest temperature ever observed on Earth during the month of 122.4 degrees (50.2 Celsius).
Dallas had never hit 90 degrees in November before, but it did so three times in four days in 2017.
In late October 2017, temperatures soared to 108 degrees in Southern California, the hottest weather on record so late in the season in the entire United States.
On Sept. 1, 2017, San Francisco hit 106 degrees, smashing its all-time hottest temperature.
In late July 2017, Shanghai registered its highest temperature in recorded history, 105.6 degrees (40.9 Celsius).
In mid-July, Spain posted its highest temperature recorded when Cordoba Airport (in the south) hit 116.4 degrees (46.9 Celsius).
In July 2017, Death Valley, Calif., endured the hottest month recorded on Earth.
In late June 2017, Ahvaz, Iran, soared to 128.7 degrees Fahrenheit (53.7 Celsius) — that country’s all-time hottest temperature.
In late May 2017, the western town of Turbat in Pakistan hit 128.3 degrees (53.5 Celsius), tying the all-time highest temperature in that country and the world-record temperature for May.

Great Barrier Reef will suffer recurring coral bleaching by 2034, report says
https://www.dw.com/en/great-barrier-reef-will-suffer-recurring-coral-bleaching-by-2034-report-says/a-44533027

Great Barrier Reef: 30% of coral died in 'catastrophic' 2016 heatwave
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2018/apr/19/great-barrier-reef-30-of-coral-died-in-catastrophic-2016-heatwave

'"By 2034, the extreme ocean temperatures that led to the 2016 and 2017 bleaching events may occur every two years," the report said, warning that "such a short period between bleaching events is not sustainable as the development of coral assemblages takes at least a decade."

The Great Barrier Reef's bleaching event of 2016 and 2017 resulted in the death of 30 percent of corals overall and as much as 75 percent in some areas."

Rush, shut the fuck up on this. It’s quite clear that, while it really isn’t practical to immediately stop using fossil fuel, there really is an accelerating warming trend that appears to be quite global in nature.
Refusing to do anything about it is an individual choice. One that, by itself, probably won’t inflict consequences on you, personally, in Iowa. However, in the aggregate, we (and I’m part of the we, because I’m still a skydiver and I own a car) are making things harder for people coming after us, particularly in lower-lying and hotter parts of the world.
The fact that you planned well enough not to be born in Mumbai really isn’t an excuse.

***Weather/climate.

You just don't get it...

:D:D:D

May - July, worldwide.

Weather is what you get in one place, at one time.

Viewing it in the context of one's lifetime is not climate.

Australia Wilts From Climate Change. Why Can’t Its Politicians Act?
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/21/world/australia/australia-climate-change-malcolm-turnbull.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=first-column-region®ion=top-news&WT.nav=top-news

SYDNEY, Australia — Mile after mile of the Great Barrier Reef is dying amid rising ocean temperatures. Hundreds of bush fires are blazing across Australia’s center, in winter, partly because of a record-breaking drought.

The global scientific consensus is clear: Australia is especially vulnerable to climate change.

And yet on Monday, Australia’s prime minister, Malcolm Turnbull, abandoned a modest effort to reduce energy emissions under pressure from conservatives in his party. And on Tuesday, those same conservatives just missed toppling his government.

What on earth is going on?

Australia’s resistance to addressing climate change — by limiting emissions in particular — is well documented. If Mr. Turnbull is turned out of office, he will be the third Australian prime minister in the past decade to lose the position over a climate dispute.

Will the US ever reach the position where presidents are booted from office because of climate change? California is burning. The eastern US is regularly flooded. But cheap gas and coal is the rule of law and thought.

Australia has 25 million people. It really doesn't matter what they do about their carbon emissions, it will have almost no effect. So why bother?

And this is the exact same position taken by conservative US people as well. I don't really understand why these people are called conservatives though. They are not into conserving at all. Just consuming.

Edit to add, Canadians are no different in this regard.

They want to 'conserve' their way of life.

They aren't willing to change, regardless of how much damage they will do to 'the future'.
