Good Christians, your opinion please........

Recommended Posts

Okay, so last night I'm hanging out with a buddy of mine from high school, who is a decently strict Christian. She hasn't been to my place in a long time, so I give her the $.25 tour. Let me describe to you my bedroom. I have my bed, some drawers and stuff, but the accent is seven huge poster frames, all filled with random pictures of everything from skydiving to touring with my old band. Well in one of these frames, there are some pics of an old friend of mine when she did swimsuit modeling, just bikini shots, we're not talking porn here.

Anyway, my friend sees these and gasps (literally). I ask "What?" and she says that "my soul was in peril because of the physical temptations I keep around me" and that "I was damned". B|

Now personally, I'm the most non-religious person on the planet, so I laughed at her saying this. ;) But still, I want the opinions of other Christians. The whole world is based on things like this today, from magazines to television. (Hell, we post boobies on here every day!!! ;))

So tell me then, is the whole world really damned, or is she just out of her mind? :S

(Also, for anyone who wants to bitch about this thread, you may feel free to piss off now. I'm not trying to be offensive in any way, I'm just wanting to know if other people feel the way she does, or if she's just loco en la cabeza. I have a feeling this will be interesting.......B|)

Edited for spelling....

She's not just Christian, she's fanatical Christian, like Missouri Synod Christian. You're fine, in my eyes of course.

Run away dude, run away fast!

Next thing you know, you'll be having Southern Baptist meetings in your living room. :S

explain to her she might have to expand her consciousness a bit. However unhappy it makes her at first maybe she will just have to accept this as a new facet of life.

Bud..........no disrespect to your friend......I think someone is a little brainwashed in "legalism" often found in Christian circles. Legalism doesn't amount to crap. Give your friend time..............I've seen people like that change, after some growth, and have a more realistic "view" on what is sin and what isn't - sort of - as so much of it is subjective.

What the hell do you care if your soul is going to hell... you don't believe it'll exist...

Is her soul going to go to Muslim hell because she doesn’t face Mecca when she prays?

No religion should mess with the belief system of another... that includes atheism

I've been a forced Christian for many years now, since I was very young; the result of this being that I'm now a total atheist :P

But one thing I did 'learn' is that God is what you make them; they are entirely personal to you. Religion itself in the form of Christianity is just an organised way of practicing and recognising your belief. I still believe (to an extent), but it's personal to me, I dont feel I have to go to church to 'prove anything'. And nor should you - or anyone. If she wants to exercise her beliefs to that extreme then that's up to her; but one thing that nobody can do is tell you what to believe.

I don't want to sound harsh - but humour her. You know what you believe, you know it isn't wrong, so you have nothing to worry about!

Nick. :)

Being Christian is only where you believe it is. I have a cousin who is the same way as your friend. I believe in my Catholic religion, but I rarely get to church (at the DZ too much I think). Those pictures have meaning to you that is more than just a chick in a bikini. Make sure your friend knows that and let her make her own decision. Keep your beliefs yours and hers her own. Remember, they put church on TV for those stuck at the DZ!? Now shut up and JUMP!

Don't tell me I can't! I already know that! Haven't you seen my x-rays?

This whole thing is hilarious! :D:D:D

Many of you have said things like "Don't conform" and "believe what you believe" and I agree. See, I choose not to follow Christianity simply because of reasons like this. I don't like to limit myself from the everchanging world just cuz some people find innocent things immoral. Plus, she tried to "recruit" me for Christianity after this whole episode, which I of course hastily declined. Besides, I'm a skeptic, which doesn't really help. ;)

I just find it hilarious that there are still people out there that whine this much about things that we don't think twice about. People like this have waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much time on their hands to focus on their so-called morals. :SB|

She's not crazy - she has very strong beliefs and a personal code of what is acceptable for her and what is not.

I have very personally strong beliefs, too. For example, you may not smoke marijuana at my house, end of discussion. Do it, or give me an issue about it, and you're out the door - and in one case, out of my life. However, if I'm at someone else's house, and they smoke pot, and I don't like it, I don't make an issue of it, I just leave. That's just the way I am.

Apply that here.

For her, there is something sinful or detrimental about a picture of someone in a bikini. Her judgment is that it means XXX, and for you, it doesn't mean that at all.

Don't worry about justifying it. It's your home, you get to hang what you want in it.

Coming from a fundamental christian perspective, she may have some of the theology skewed....some folk believe that the "temptation" should not ever be seen, as in this case. But what is temptation for? To strengthen faith, and to strengthen self control, and to create an appreciation for what one has right now.

All things are positive - if one see it. I'm surrounded by glorious houses every day, and return to my wee small home. I've made the best I can with what I have; despite the "temptation" of million dollar mansions, I don't resent what I have - I love it; it's what's mine right now.

She's not crazy - she's been scared silly by the "evils" of the world, not realizing that there is benefit to them, as well.

But what was she doing in your bedroom, anyway? That's the sacred santum, and it's generally is not included on my nickle tour.

I don't think of my bedroom as any different from the rest of the house. And other than my music room, it's where I keep 90% of my stuff I actually use. :P

If nudity were damnable, God must have intended humanity to be damned because we were all created naked. The story of Adam and Eve backs this up.

I quite going to church because of people like her. Although, I know for a fact that the people like that that I knew, I could out quote scripture and knew theology well past their knowledge.

People like that are sheep, they follow what people tell them and they don't actually know why or how. Blow it off.

Tell your friend..'Judge not lest ye be judged'. EvenChrist was tempted. Being tempted doesn't mean you're condemed. How long has she been a Christian?
