Even in the ugly resolution of TV it was pretty obviously covered by -something- and pretty much everyone agreed. Even in the second photo it looked like a pastie. It was only when I saw this -extreme- close up that it was even possible to question that maybe something a little "different". The initial piercing is usually done with a plain ring, and once its healed, it can be replaced with a barbell or a barbell/shield combo, like in the photo. not a good idea to put that on the piercing initially, as it makes cleaning difficult and can put stress on the piercing, making it reject.
