WrongWay 0 #1 March 17, 2004 Okay, so I get up Saturday morning and go jump. I come down from my second jump and my left ear had that clogged feeling you sometimes get from altitude, which is weird cuz I normally don't get it. Anyway, I go home, hasn't popped. It's been like this for 5 days now. It's gotten a little better I think, but it doesn't seem like it's popped all the way. When I lean my head all the way to the left (in the direction of the ear) it clears up, but then when I put it upright again it clogs again. Yes, fyi, I do clean my ears. Ya think I have an ear infection or somethin??? Wrong Way D #27371 Mal Manera Rodriguez Cajun Chicken Ø Hellfish #451 The wiser wolf prevails.

Casie 0 #3 March 17, 2004 It sometimes takes a week or so for my ears to pop I take it you've been yawning your ass off & holding your nose & blowing; right? Try chewing some gum while you're at it. Maybe you are congested. Like I said, I'm used to it, so it's normal for me to get it.~Porn Kitty WARNING: Goldschlager causes extreme emotional outbursts! Girlfalldown 0 #7 March 17, 2004 I had the same problem and a doctor friend of mine told me to try pouring some rubbing alcohol in the ear, hold it sideways for a minute or so and then shake it out. It worked for me. He said only do it once though otherwise your ear will dry out really bad. -------------- (Do not, I repeat DO NOT, take my posts seriously.) Beerlight 0 #9 March 17, 2004 QuoteYes, fyi, I do clean my ears. Ya think I have an ear infection or somethin??? Clean ears have nothing, repeat nothing to do with "clearing" your middle ear. You possibly had some congestion and/or mucus in your eustachian tube. The reason you can clear when you point that ear up is, you are stretching the eustachian tube allowing equalization. If it's not getting any better, go see your doctor. And yes, you can have an ear infection and not know........ Hope you get it worked out. And BTW to other peeps, if you have congestion and/or a cold, DO NOT pinch your nose and blow. All your doing then is forcing mucus w/ bacteria back up into your middle ear, and possibly helping an infection begin..... Advice from your friendly NASA physiologist......... pajarito 0 #11 March 17, 2004 My wife is a doctor. She agrees with the fluid in the ear possibility. Also, it's probably not outer but inner ear. Decongestants can help.
skycat 0 #12 March 17, 2004 Last time that happened to me I waited to long to go see the Dr. and ended up with a ear infection. He put me on Allegra and Decongestants and it still took another week to clear up. Now I take decongestant in the morning before jumping during allergy season.Fly it like you stole it! Each ear takes about 15 minutes. I get my candles from some store in CA, i'll make sure to order extra for when you'll be here. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! bch7773 0 #17 March 17, 2004 i don't know about hydrogen peroxide, but rubbing alcohol will clear your outer ears of water... in fact, almost anything that is miscible with water and has a lower surface tension will do... i imagine everclear or vodka would do the trick too MB 3528, RB 1182

Clownburner 0 #21 March 17, 2004 FYI, ear candles are dangerous and ineffective.... from Michael Schermer (Scientific American): Quote Ear coning cleans your ears and mind. The idea is to lie down on your side with your head on a pillow. Then place a long, narrow, cylindrical cone of wax into your ear canal until a tight seal forms. Light the open end of the cone on fire. The negative pressure created will not only remove undesirable earwax, according to Coning Works in Sedona, Ariz., but also provide "spiritual opening and emotional clearing, realignment and cleansing of subtle energy flows, sharpening of mental functioning, vision, hearing, smell, taste and color perception." The technique "acts as a catalyst to clear out debris from nerve endings allowing for clear vibrational flow to corresponding areas of mind, body and spirit." Why pay $25 to $75 to have your ears cleaned by your doctor, asks another ear-cone seller, Wholistic Health Solutions, "when you can easily do it at home?" Well, for starters, according to a 1996 study conducted by physicians at the Spokane [Wash.] Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic and published in the journal Laryngoscope, "Tympanometric measurements in an ear canal model demonstrated that ear candles do not produce negative pressure," and thus there was no removal of wax in the eight ears tested. Worse, a survey of 122 otolaryngologists (ear, nose and throat docs) identified 21 ear injuries from ear coning. If one is inclined toward such self-mutilation (or a good chortle), however, I recommend a quick stop at the satirical buttcandle.com, which touts a "gentler alternative to laxatives, enemas and anti-flatulence pills" in the form of a carefully (and gently) placed hollow candle that when burning creates a vacuum that draws out impurities. Best of all, it's "100% soluble and septic-safe." See also: this article which details the action the FDA has taken against some of the claims made by these companies... Of course, you can do whatever you like. Just a reminder from your friendly neighborhood skeptic. And don't forget to Butt Candle! 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth

hooked 0 #24 March 17, 2004 My cousin did this ear candle thing to my sister once, it was the funniest procedure. We laughed so hard over the whole event. Yes, I've heard it isn't effective and I forget what it is now, but what they pull out of your ear is not ear wax.
