Best vacation ever

Recommended Posts

What was your best vacation ever? (Yeah, I'm sure some of you have read my other vacation threads. I'm still trying to get ideas for the perfect getaway.) Vegas and the Grand Canyon? Caribbean? Alaska? Europe? Egypt?

So, what was your best vacation ever?
There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

Had a blast in Puerto Rico,

The DZO, has been a good freind for years and telling me to go down , so last may went down to see him.

the waters are awsome , Rain forests are undescribable, and the prices on the island are Very reasonable once you get past hotel sticker shock.

what time of year are you looking to travel?

BUNGE

I don't hate them, I just like us better.

Any vacation is good.......but the best?

It wasnt really a true vacation but I loved my hiking trip in Northern NH back in 2000. We did 70Miles in the dead of winter. It was 0 through neg. 20 every day It took us over 6 days to do.

Sleeping on the side of the trail in your sleeping bag, -20 out, the night sky is clear and you dont hear anything but the animals.....best night sleep I have ever had.

Photo #1: This is one of the amazing views we came across. It was -5 out when the pic was taken.
Photo #2:If you look at the very bottom of the valley in the pic you see a big white spot. Well thats a lake we slept on. surrounded by cliffs, looking straight up at the moon.
Photo#3: This is the view from one of the ledges that we slept near....we slept in a grove of rocks to shield from the wind.....

Thats my vacation.

Best ever, thats a easy one for me because it wasn't very long ago. Spent a full week skiing/snowboarding with 8 of my best friends at a ski in/ski out townhouse in breckenridge colorado. It was my first ski trip and I lucked out because we did it right, the place we stayed was amazing and so were the resorts we skiied. Even our day off we went horse back riding which was another first for me and I imagine the scenery we enjoyed is some of the best in the world. I've never seen skies that blue in my previous 25 years. On top of everything else my buddy flipped our 4x4 suburban on its side into a snow bank and not 1 injury was sustained by any of us. Very very lucky and even the vehicle came away unscathed. What a badass trip, can't wait for next year when we do Big sky.

My best vacation was to Cozumel. The scuba diving is incredible. Did a Western Caribbean cruise on Princess and would have to say that cruises are the best value for your $$. I live in Alaska and try to get out of here as often as I can but it is a beautiful state. If you come here try and time it for our solstice boogie in June. We have an awesum boogie.

corrected spelling :S

Vegas and the Grand Canyon? Caribbean? Alaska? Europe? Egypt?

Vegas sucks........Haven't actually been to the Grand Canyon but I have seen it from the air MANY times. It's a really big ditch. ;) Carribean........been to the Bahamas on Vacation. Went on a cruise and had a blast! Very fun. Alaska........went there in the military. First time I ever saw Alaska was out the open door of a C-17. Jumped a -1C just a couple minutes later onto Grizzly DZ. That was FUN! Alaska is the best place in the world to jump round parachutes. Landing on the tundra is like a Serta mattress. Saw the areas around Fairbanks and then down to Delta Junction. Beautiful in the late summer! Europe....been there many times. England, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy. All interesting. Germany was very nice but the people are hot and cold. They get pissy with Americans in a hurry. :D Egypt..........Dirty, smelly, nasty, the pyramids are a big pile of rocks just like the pics. I would have been mad if I wasted my own money going there. :S

1. African trip. Climbed Kilimanjaro, went on safari, white water rafting the Zambezi, Vic Falls rapelling, lion feeding in Namibia.

2. Belize scuba diving. Plus Mayan ruins in Tikal, Guatemala and Chichen Itza, Mexico. Bar with 100+ different brands of tequila in Playa del Carmen, Mexico was also a highlight of the trip.

3. Thailand. Scuba diving Phuket/Similians and trekking up north near the Burmese/Laotian border. Ayuthaya and Bangkok were ok too.

4. Carnaval in Brazil.

my top four.

I emailed you about mine, but a Windjammer Barefoot cruise during a total solar eclipse.
Very casual dress; the ship goes from small island port to small island port during the night, and you can go onto the islands (mostly too small for the big ships, so they're not at all crowded) during the day.

You can jump right off the ship, on a gangplank, for swimming. And the place where it anchored was clean enough for that.

Ship full of amateur astronomers who liked to talk about it and share their cool equipment; very good thing when there are lots of things some have never seen before. The top deck was kept dark to improve the viewing.

Free rum swizzles.

I saw whales, a total solar eclipse, and a volcano's lava flow all in one afternoon.

I returned refreshed and awed.

Depends on what you like to do.

One of my most memorable was in New Zealand, taking the coastal track of Abel Tasman national park (north side of South Island). You can Sea Kayak along the coast, and camp on beaches or small islands offshore along the way. At one very secluded beach, my brother and I were swimming in a lagoon, and we realized that under our feet were thousands of live sand-dollars. Dolphins like to hang out around there too.

Any vacation is good but the one that sticks out the most is my 2 week trip to Europe a couple years back.

1st week: Stayed at a gorgeous hotel on top of the hill overlooking Rome. I took several tours & visited the Roman Forums/Colosseum/the Vatican/the Spanish Steps/the Catacombs and many others. During this week I also took a bus trip to Florence where I saw "David" and stopped in a little mid evil town called Orvieto. FUNFUNFUNFUN was had by all!

2nd week: Left the luggage at the hotel & rode the train/back packed to Venice and Muran for a couple days. Then decided to go on to Milan & then to Como where apparently the residents vacation.

Sorry, no pictures to post at this time.

Been to Vegas & the Grand Canyon. If you haven't been to either, I'd surely go to the Grand Canyon, as it's remarkable & breathtaking!

Two weeks on St. John, USVI. Stayed in a little condo at the top of "Jacob's Ladder" in Cruz Bay, spent the entire two weeks going to the beach at some of the most beautiful beaches in the world (Trunk Bay, Maho Bay), hiking the trails all over the island in the national park, and eating a ton of food and gallons of beer every night while dancing our asses off to reggae and soca every night. I almost needed a vacation from my vacation. ;)

Been to Jamacia and Barbados, but here's the kicker... had a real home with servants or whatver ya call them. Waking up to 'Breakfast is served " eating in shorts no shoes shirt etc.
"Lunch is served" Drinks by the pool without even asking.
Awesome dinners that took all day to cook. Damn it was like a cruise ship w/o all the b.s. Moral of story
shop for places with 10 people to take care of you.....oh yea personal taxi guy took us anywhere anytime.
Had everything except a personal escort babe. Never had to leave the "estate". walk right to the beach which was only 50 feet away. Sucks coming home after that. It took a while to get used to having to cook for myself. Spoiled rotten in 7days.

ok, everyone is naming some exotic locations, with beaches, mountains, beautiful water..etc..etc....

Here's my perfect vacation, been twice so far and going back this summer.

OSHKOSH, WI AIRSHOW in July......(7 days of heaven)....B|

Fly in, pitch a tent next to your airplane, wake in the mornings to sounds of radial engines turning over, and just as the sun is peeping up, hear a 4-ship of P-51 Mustangs getting airborne;)), sucking the gear into the wells, with you and your friends rolling out of sleeping bags with these shit eating grins on your faces.B|

Finally after 7 days of the most awesome airshow flying in the world under the bluest of skies, seeing old friends, and drinking wayyyy too much, you too pack it up and get in line with thousands of other crazies and fly back home.......doesn't get any better than that!;)

Hey, you asked about best vacations!! I'll come by and pick you up.......

Buck
