You got 11/11 correct.

although as a note, the Emancipation Proclamation didn't really do anything

I think it was the 13th amendment that formally "freed the slaves"

Quote

"That on the 1st day of January, A.D. 1863, all persons held as
slaves within any State or designated part of a State the people
whereof shall then be in rebellion against the United States shall
be then, thenceforward, and forever free; and the executive
government of the United States, including the military and naval
authority thereof, will recognize and maintain the freedom of such
persons and will do no act or acts to repress such persons, or any
of them, in any efforts they may make for their actual freedom.

Sounds to me like it freed someone.

Yep. Francis Scott Key was from my town (Frederick, MD). We've got a big statue of him, and the local minor league baseball team is called The Frederick Keys.

supposedly Frederick is the most haunted city in Maryland, too.:o

so was that a real citizenship test? I actually thought it would be much harder.

I don't think it was. The real one is pretty long and not multiple choice. That was more of a "Let's see exactly how stupid Americans really are" test. You know our neighbors to the north would probably kick our asses, but that's just because they want to be one of us. ;):D

Just kidding . . . no one get upset. :D

It did not apply to slaves in border states fighting on the Union side and it didn't affect slaves in southern areas already under Union control. The states in rebellion did not act on Lincoln's order. So, it didn't really free anyone.

I was sure that Secretary of State became president if both died. I remember specifically cause of Ford.

10/11 == I missed the one about the line of succession. It's changed. The Secretary of State used to come third, and that was a problem during the Nixon administration because Henry Kissinger was foreign-born and thus ineligible to serve as President. Gerald Ford was never Speaker of the House. He only became President because he'd been appointed Vice-President when Spiro Agnew resigned.

I hate it when I have to answer a history question when I know the answer they're expecting is wrong. The most common example is "which President ended slavery in the United States?" They usually want you to say "Abraham Lincoln", but the correct answer is "Andrew Johnson".

Its ok Lainey I would love to see how many Americans could pass almost any other countries similar test.

You got 11/11 correct.

I am always amazed when they do the "man on the street" interviews and so many people have no freakin clue about much of our history.. culture or even current events.
