PhillyKev 0 #28 August 12, 2004 QuoteDid you, did you see the frightened ones? Did you, did you hear the falling bombs? Did you ever wonder why we had to run for shelter, When the promise of a brave new world, Unfurled beneath a clear blue sky? QuoteBut it was only fantasy. The wall was too high, As you can see. No matter how he tried, He could not break free. And the worms ate into his brain. QuoteYou better run all day, And run all night. And keep your dirty feelings deep inside. And if you’re taking your girlfriend out tonight, You better park the car well out of sight. ’cause if they catch you in the back seat, Trying to pick her locks, They’re gonna send you back to mother, In a cardboard box. You better run!
MrHixxx 0 #29 August 12, 2004 I think they were better together in Pink Floyd than any of their solo work or the Pink Floyd albums after. Go ahead and compare The Wall with Division Bell or Dark Side of the Moon with Division Bell and get back to me -Hixxxdeath,as men call him, ends what they call men -but beauty is more now than dying’s when
Shotgun 1 #30 August 12, 2004 QuoteQuoteBut it was only fantasy. The wall was too high, As you can see. No matter how he tried, He could not break free. And the worms ate into his brain. I almost put that one too... It's also one of my favorites. Actually just about anything from The Wall - I think I've listened to that album more than any other (though The Downward Spiral from Nine Inch Nails is pretty close). Zenister 0 #33 August 12, 2004 again...if you pay attention to their efforts since they parted you can tell where most of the creative/musical influence for the Wall and Darkside came from... listen to the crap Waters makes without Gilmour, compared to what Gilmour has made without Waters.... edit: there is a reason Waters was only given rights to the Wall and The Final Cut... supposedly the fight over the Wall could/should have been uglier than it was.. lyrics and concept were all Waters but the the music and arrangements was mostly Gilmour who at that point didnt want to fight with it anymore...____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. cocheese 0 #34 August 12, 2004 Hey now. Gilmore and Waters both have their place. Just different times. Both concerts were amazing.Man , Pink Floyd at the Pontiac Silver Dome in '94 was the best sound I'll probably ever hear.Way ahead of it's time it seemed. RkyMtnHigh 0 #36 August 13, 2004 I LOOOOVVVVEEE Pink Floyd!!! Such soothing music I love this one: "Long you live and high you fly, The smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry, All you touch and all you see Is all your life will ever be. " Ahhhhh..... _________________________________________
Dougiefresh 0 #37 August 13, 2004 QuoteSuch soothing music A great deal of their music is revolution in a shiny package with a bow. If you really listen to it, meaning not having it on while you do the dishes, meaning sitting down and doing nothing but hearing and trying to understand the music, you'll see that it's challenging you the listener to something greater. I find it not soothing at all. I find it inspiring and challenging and difficult, which is what makes it so great. Okay, a bit of a rant there. nacmacfeegle 0 #40 August 13, 2004 "Favorite Pink Floyd quote" Man, thats like asking what your favourite beer is, they are all good. Personally though... Wish you were here, all of it. The album means a lot to me and it helped get me through some pretty lonely times in nasty places with it on my walkman. This bit in particuar... So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain. Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell? And did they get you trade your heroes for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage? How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year, running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears, wish you were here. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. BASE813 0 #44 August 13, 2004 from this thread, just curious on what your favorite Pink Floyd albums are and what period you prefered. I like Piper at the Gates of Dawn for a couple of tracks, and find most people into PF have not heard it.......... Syd Barrets only album he worked on and he WAS Pink Floyd originally....... I like Meddle (sp) for a few tracks that sound amazing on a decent system........ Atom Heart Mother - some cool tracks....... Dark Side of the moon - enough said! The Wall - again, enough said....... but after that I found PF lacked anything they had previously..... I went to the concert at Earls Court (the one after the seating collapse!), and they did some tracks from the latter days, but they went back to the older stuff because that was so much better............. The later stuff I did not really like at all! So do you prefer the old school or the new school PF?
cocheese 0 #45 August 13, 2004 Wow that's an even tougher question. The new stuff is better in some ways. But where else is 30 year old music sounding so good ?... standing the test of time ?Most Floyd albums you can just put it on and leave it alone.... let it play . I like that, that you can't just stop the music in the middle of the album. It's all one long song to me....and it's a man answering... must be someone besides your wife is there to answer. He keeps hanging up. ( ring ring...sigh breath )
Vallerina 2 #46 August 13, 2004 QuoteMost Floyd albums you can just put it on and leave it alone.... let it play That's one of my favorite things about Pink Floyd...the continuity! (Well except for Money...it throws everything off....) That being said, Wish You Were Here is the only cd that I have with 5 songs on it that I would gladly pay full price for. I like, "We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl year after year. Running over the same old ground, what have we found? The same old fears...wish you were here."There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
BASE813 0 #47 August 13, 2004 I assume that everyone knows wish you were here and shine on you crazy diamond were tributes to Syd Barrett? apparently when they were recording shine on you crazy diamond the first time, syd barrett walked in after years away and years without seeing the guys, he stood and listened to it and walked out again with out being seen again........... fucking freaky! (or just marketing bolloxs of course!! hehe)
Zennie 0 #48 August 13, 2004 Quotefrom this thread, just curious on what your favorite Pink Floyd albums are and what period you prefered. It's a tie between Animals & Wish You Were Here. Lots of folks think today's music is dark. Give those albums (and The Wall) a listen and Waters wrote some of the darkest lyrics I've ever heard. Here probably my favorite... QuoteYou gotta be crazy, you gotta have a real need. You gotta sleep on your toes, and when you're on the street, You gotta be able to pick out the easy meat with your eyes closed. And then moving in silently, down wind and out of sight, You gotta strike when the moment is right without thinking. And after a while, you can work on points for style. Like the club tie, and the firm handshake, A certain look in the eye and an easy smile. You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to, So that when they turn their backs on you, You'll get the chance to put the knife in. You gotta keep one eye looking over your shoulder. You know it's going to get harder, and harder, and harder as you get older. And in the end you'll pack up and fly down south, Hide your head in the sand, Just another sad old man, All alone and dying of cancer. And when you lose control, you'll reap the harvest you have sown. And as the fear grows, the bad blood slows and turns to stone. And it's too late to lose the weight you used to need to throw around. So have a good drown, as you go down, all alone, Dragged down by the stone. Stone... stone... stone... stone... stone.... GOD I love that album. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

AudreyRowe 0 #50 August 13, 2004 From the documentary I saw apparently Syd was really fat and looked totally different too and at first none of them recognised him. I was at the Earls court concert the night the seating collapsed - we got tickets for another night and they turned out to be really good seats - I thought it was the best concert I have ever been to. Saw Roger in Manchester in 2002 which was still pretty good. Would have been good to see the Wall live - only got it on video
