sdctlc 0 #5 June 10, 2004 O- is the universal donor blood type because it has no A, B, or Rh antigens, and, therefore, won't cause a transfusion reaction in anyone. With your O+ you can donate to anyone that has the rh antigen in their blood. A bonus is that you can receive any "O" blood since your rh + Scott C."He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!" wildcard451 0 #6 June 10, 2004 O- is the universal donor........ But you don't have to worry about matching Rh all that much.....somewhere around 85% of the population is Rh+. O+ here as well. damnit.....beaten to the punch by 2 minutes......

wildcard451 0 #12 June 11, 2004 You can give to any type, so long as they are positive for the Rh antigen....which, as I mentioned earlier, is about 85% of the population. edited to add a little chart

Laurel 0 #16 June 11, 2004 For those medical folks, I have been interested in finding out if race has to do with blood type. I noticed on the chart that only 11% of caucasians have my blood type (B+), but what race holds the majority of B+ blood? I saw that 20% of African Americans have my blood type. Just curious for genetic reasons. I am half Irish and half mutt including German, Cherokee, Welsh, and god knows what else......................................................................
