I just got my letter from the Red Cross that i got after giving blood for the first time. I'm an O+ blood type, an almost universal doner! Then again its gonna suck if i ever need blood b/c i can only have type O

O- is the universal donor blood type because it has no A, B, or Rh antigens, and, therefore, won't cause a transfusion reaction in anyone. With your O+ you can donate to anyone that has the rh antigen in their blood. A bonus is that you can receive any "O" blood since your rh +

O- is the universal donor........ But you don't have to worry about matching Rh all that much.....somewhere around 85% of the population is Rh+.

You can give to any type, so long as they are positive for the Rh antigen....which, as I mentioned earlier, is about 85% of the population.

For those medical folks, I have been interested in finding out if race has to do with blood type. I noticed on the chart that only 11% of caucasians have my blood type (B+), but what race holds the majority of B+ blood? I saw that 20% of African Americans have my blood type.

Just curious for genetic reasons. I am half Irish and half mutt including German, Cherokee, Welsh, and god knows what else.

O+ here....cant give blood so I'm told (thank god....I'm a whimp when it comes to needles)...something about not taking blood from mechanics due to all the crap were exposed to at work ........anyone wana take my job?
