Sirius Vs. XM

So, what do you like about each?

I'm in the Southeast, South Carolina to be exact. I'm not a Howard Stern fan.
I prefer college sports to pro.
I like alot of comedy.
I am a Jimmy Buffett fan.

So, what are the pro's and con's of each?

I'm not a talking head fan, either, but my choice was made for me - the new car came with XM. There's no "All Buffet All the Time" channel, but then, that's why you have a CD player .

I like Unsigned, Lucy for morning drives, Ethel cuz the name is cool. I'd like to have a dinner party with Frank's Place in the background or the 1940's channel. I have checked some of the comedy and could have done without the channel that had Phyllis Diller,. but the uncensored one was funny.

I did catch the ACC tourney while I was on the road.
I'm a rd. warrior for work, so either would please me I'm certain. I'm easy. Just avoiding the station hunt is a dream.

Pro: They both provide a decent service and a lot of cool stuff to listen to.
Con: You have to pay for it.

Personally I went with XM. Why? Because I got the unit for my truck for free after a rebate. Would have gone with Sirius if they had the same deal and XM didn't.

I will say that XM has a really good Bluegrass channel, a good Blues channel, a really good comedy channel and such. Don't know about the sports, didn't have it during the college football season, so we'll see in a few months.

Sirius' customer service wasn't very friendly when a friend of mine was in the process of ordering it, so he cancelled his order and went with XM. XM seems to come with new cars and it is available on some digital satallite cable TVs.

odd, the cust service at sirius was actually very helpful when I signed up.

I'm a stern fan so I went there. Lots of good chanels.
rolling stones
raw dog comedy
all kinds of various music.
NFL
I haven't listened to terrestrial radio since I hooked up with sirius.

12.95/month isn't a huge deal to me.

XM = pay every month

Sirrius = pay every month or $500 one time and never pay again . In just over 3 years the $500 plan becomes free service

I went with XM because my new car came wth it. Only thing I don't like is I can't get NFL games on it. I would be a little wary of going with Sirius on a long term contract.

Sirius has Radio Margaritaville on channel 31. I'm listening to it now.

Both have good comedy.
I think Sirius get the nod, but only by a small margin, in the music area.
News is equal
Talk is equal
Sirius get the nod with the NFL, but I am never using it during those game times.
XM gets the nod on college sports and they carry every pro baseball game. (I went XM because I too am a road warrior and a HUGE Cubs fan)

I am sure you will enjoy either one.

Sirius' stock just hit a 52 week low, Hoo Hoo hasnt brought in the amount of subscribers that they thought he would. The handed Martha Stewart a ton of cash for a channel that sucks ass...

XM has Norton and Friends on XM 202, major league baseball, the NHL, and college sports. Theyre launching more and more music stations all the time.

XM's portable units are far superior to Sirius (you can actually get a live feed with their MYFI) sirius' is nothing more than an oversized MP3 player.

And last but not least... Sirius' equipment for your car looks like a box that causes a blind spot on your dash.

I've had both and I find XM to be the better company as far as finances, equipment, and technology. I've been XM subscriber since 2002, when I flushed my sirius radio down the toilet...

Sirius has a Buffet channel, two comedy channels, sports, and all the same music that xm has.

XM has a movie channel, which sirius doesn't have.

Regarding Howard bringing in the subscribers...check the numbers, he had actually more than paid for himself, which is why the stock bonus was triggered. Before they announced him joining, they had 600k subs...now they are well over 2.2 million, and Q1 hasn't been tallied.

Pricewize...both stocks are way down...XM was at 32 just a couple months ago, they are at 20 now. Sirius was at almost 8 and is now around 4.5. Remember that Sirius has like 6 times the number of shares outstanding...SIRI actaully has a higher market cap than XM. They are both getting killed, but it has nothing to do with the quality of the product. Sirius has the added bit of fame of being the number one shorted stock in the market...they just surpased Microsoft.

Most likely you'll enjoy either one...I think Sirius will outpace in growth over time. Sex sells...VCRs became popular because people could watch porn at home.

alot of people look at the price of the stock and assume siri is a fledgiling company. no one looks at the outstanding number of stocks.

I also agree that you'll probably enjoy either product.

I personallyprefer sirius b/c I like Howard.
they also have the NFL, NAscar, playboy among those chanel you listed. ( i have no clue what XM has)

You may notice more gaps or momentary seeking with Sirius as they use 3 satellites and no ground repeaters. XM uses 3 satellites and 800 ground repeaters to even out coverage. In the vehicles I work with we have tested both carriers and I find better gap-free coverage from XM.

Great post. You did some research. I like that.

My man has XM in his car because the car came with it. I got Sirius in my car because I wanted to listen to Howard Stern. What I notice is that XM seems to come in a little clearer but Sirius has a lot more stuff on it. They now have 3 comedy channels (just added a new one this week) and they have a ton of news/talk/sports and music. More than XM if you go guide for guide (since we have both).

XM was around first and they got the contract for GM and some other cars so that's why so many people have XM. Sirius is coming out with something that you can use to replace the "brain" on your XM to make it Sirius (in the cars that came with it). I guess you just clip it into something behind the dash and it runs through your car stereo where XM was.

In my opinion, Sirius will eventually blow XM away.

Competition is always good. In fact, there will always be 2 companies, due to laws in the US against monopolies, but I can't say I agree with you, Shannon.

A few months ago, I decided I wanted sattelite radio. I was torn between the two. Baseball on XM (Go Cubbies!) or NFL on the Doggie company. I was torn! Then I realized that I would be practically handing $$$ to Howard by going to that puppy. I can't stand that ass, so I decided XM simply because I wouldn't be benefitting Stern. I had never heard of Opie and Anthony before, but I must admit, I'm now an O & A addict, and pest.

All you "Mr. Free Speech" fans need to re-think some things. (Damn, this could get as bad as the RSL-No-RSL debate.)

With XM you can download weather maps (radar, satellite, etc.) and display them if you have appropriate softare/hardware.

Does Sirius also have these graphical weather products available?
