Unplug it and start over when it cools. Any ideas? I'm thinking it's full of dust and spiders.:o

I thought it was the old monitor i was using. Got a new one. Didn't help. Signal lost is what i get when it goes out. Desktop is turned off for saftey it says.

And i don't know shit about computers so please talk in a language i can understand.:|

Do you hear anything from the box itself? Fans and harddrive still spinning? or is the whole computer just shutting off?

Is the system shutting down to save power? Start | Control Panel | Power Options and see what the Power Scheme is.

If not, it's probably overheating. Make sure there's airflow and that all the fans are still working. If so, open the case & use compressed air to blow the spiders and cobwebs away. If that still doesn't help, take it into the shop.

Probably the vacuum valves over heating:P

Buy a can of air (I use a small compressor) unplug every thing, take the side cover off an notice the amount of crap inside,
the ventilator an heat sink which attach to the CPU are probably covered in dust, carefully blow the air over the heat sinks fins
whilst holding the fan with a finger to stop it from spinning up.

On second thought this is going to get complicated, much better take the puter to the shop for a cleaning,
If you've got cash ask them to fit ventilators on the disk drives, an another ventilator on the case

Oh an upgrading the CPU heat sink an ventilator might be a good idea

Odds are it is over heating, get in there with a vacuum. The dust cans will just blow it around everywhere. Also when you turn in on you should have a breeze coming out of the back side. You will see where the vent holes are. You will want to clean those as well from dust. if there is no breeze then the case fan is shot. If there is a breeze however the unit is still shutting down then the cooling fan for your processor took a shit.

Odds are you will need new processor and potentially new board depending on how hot it actually got in there. I would advise not to keep running it, get it cleaned and check for air. The more you let it over heat the more damage will be done. Maybe too late already, hard to tell. If you are getting a "smell" from it, then things are cooking in there.

Hey i heard that! Guess what? It's working! The fan is now working. Yay i have a fan!

It wasn't that dusty. But I took it apart and vacuumed everything. Put back together and it works. Now lets see if i can get more than 15 mins out of it. Oh and i have to try out some porn on the new monitor.B|

Thanks for all the good tips.

Check the power settings in the BIOS too. Make sure it isn't set to shut off after 15 minutes of inactivity.

Be a real man. Beat it at its own game.

Turn it off at 14 minutes.

:D:D

Get one of those hand held fans and tape it to the inside - temporary fix - but you never know.
