CanuckInUSA 0 #1 March 21, 2009 Simple question do you like fast cars? If you do like fast cars ... Do you like them to be fast going straight? Like a drag race? Fast going round and round? Like Indy cars or Stock cars? Or are you like me, you like fast cars that corner like they are on rails? Or do you view cars as only a means of getting you from point A to point B (nothing wrong with this view I respect this view). Of course maybe or are you a ... all cars should be banned and everyone should be forced to travel on public transit type of person? Or maybe you are one of the rare souls who never leaves the DZ and haven't been in a car for years. But those sorts of folks are in the extreme minority. For those of you who do indeed like fast cars, despite our differences, I think we all have one thing in common (whether you like the straight line speed, the ovals or the twisty road races) and that is we love the sound that a super car or a souped up car makes. Most of us use cars and/or hate cars (some believe all cars should be outlawed). So do you like fast cars? LOL ... IMHO ... PORSCHE ... there is not substitute ... Conundrum 1 #3 March 21, 2009 I love cars in general. Always have, always will. Driving them, working on them, looking at them. Cars to me are more than a means of travel. I believe that cars can be an extension of your character and some are true pieces of art. Porsche is"ok" on my list. As far as exotics go, McLaren, Ferrari 430 or 599, Aston Martin V12 Vantage, Nissan GT-R the and the Saleen S7 are near the top along with some others. Quote As far as exotics go Haha if you want to get into exotics ... well you have a pretty good list of exotics there but you omitted the GT. But since I could never afford an exotic ... LongWayToFall 0 #10 March 21, 2009 Your poll is rigged. I love almost all performance cars, road cars and drag both. BTW, porsche are only a status symbol, name any porsche and you could build a faster car for less money guaranteed. If I had to have a road car, I would home build a lotus super seven. Drag, it would probably be an old Nova but only because I love v-8s. If I was going cheap it would be a 5.0 ford mustang with lots of nitrous. Check out this video about the caterham 7: http://video.google.com/videosearch?hl=en&q=super%207&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wv#q=lotus+super+7&hl=en&emb=

I miss my old Nova... that thing was a beast that just wouldn't give up! 2 engine rebulds, 3 transmissions, countless clutches and more u-joints than I can remember... thing hauled ass! Great car to learn how to work on, simple as hell."I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message
zoom1 0 #13 March 21, 2009 road racing is the best, a back dirt road is even better . i have 2 stang's gt 5.0's, a lot of cars are faster but i can total mine (again) and not be out a ton of cash a lot of other people arent willing to risk thier 50k ride . one ride is a 84 gt with a 9" 4:11 posi its a little wider and a little more stable this summer its getting a 351. stangs are like a big go-cart.that said, watching nascar is like watching porn -it's ok but its a lot more fun doing it yourself
MrFreefall383 0 #14 March 21, 2009 The car guy in me has to come out every so often, and this poll helps that process, so thanks to the threadstarter. I like a car that, as the TS so ably put, "turns corners like it's on rails." My own car doesn't do that yet, but once I get to my next unit and get settled in, I'm going to start upgrading it toward that goal. The best experience I ever had was a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 8 on a twisty local parkway. The parkway headed northbound in this location takes two sharp 90-degree corners over a bridge spanning a set of railroad tracks. First one to the left, second one to the right about 150-175 yds later, not much room for error, especially if you're moving at a speed higher than about 35-40. The turn is labeled 30 MPH. Well, this good friend's little brother got the Evo, spent some time breaking it in, and then took us for a ride. His brother was in front, I was in the back right, and one other friend was in the back left. We had been going reasonably fast to this point, and I was impressed with the car already. As we approached the bridge, I figured, "Oh yeah, he's going to have to slow down, no way he's taking this any faster than 50." Well, I was wrong, and he slammed down the throttle and took the bridge at a blistering 85. Not only did he not crash and kill us all, but the car didn't even squeal a tire. That is the most impressed I've ever been with any car. Going to take a lot to beat that experience."If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche

henryvillar 0 #17 March 21, 2009 If I could choose a new profession tomorrow it would be as a rally driver. Always been my dream job, flying down a windy dirt track in a forest or on a mountain doing 80 mph. Unfortunately, like most motor sports, its very expensive to get into.Maybe in my next life... JJBAKER 0 #18 March 21, 2009 Drove modified BMW M5's for quite a while in Europe. Mine had a sliding cover in the back window. It came up when you pushed a button and read: "500 Horsy's say goodbye now... :)" Only amateur racing experience with "mountain races" in Europe. Always BMW. Now, at my higher age I am more impressed with elegant strong cars who have all the power they could ever need, but never use it. Safety & comfort are more important to me than going from 0-60 in 4.2 Besides, ever since becoming a Commercial Pilot I am unable to afford anything bigger than a Yugo. I hope chicks dig honest guys more than financed 500 horsepower penis extensions... :) Unfortunately thats equivalent to hoping Santa may show up one day. Oh well. _________________________________________ Jump, Fall & Fly Safe! --JJ If it looks like trouble - it probably is!
DavidB 0 #19 March 21, 2009 I'm the wacky old man that makes 40 year old Mopars handle like go karts. My 68 Dart rides like a buck-board, handles like a go kart & came out so well balanced it's actually frightening considering it's built with 95% factory parts. My brother's 68 Barracuda has more tire under it, but my Dart's steering is faster (2.3 turns lock to lock vs 3.3) has a larger engine (360 vs 340) & different trans (4-spd OD auto vs 3-spd auto). His 69 Coronet 500 wagon handles much better than any 4500lb beast should, & the stroked 440 (493 CID) makes 540+HP & 580+ ft/lbs at the crank. That thing sounds like sex just idling, runs like a stock 440 if you stay in the primary side of the carb, & feels like you started a second 440 when you open the secondary side. All this & P/S, PDB, & A/C too! I worked in a fab shop that specialized in drag race chassis/suspension work for 13 years, so I built road race style street cars. Without body work & paint costs, none of these cars cost more than $10K to build! When the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. skybytch 259 #20 March 21, 2009 I like cars that make the ground shake when they start. Cars that you can hear coming from 2 blocks away. Cars that are so damned loud that the cops look, and the sound isn't coming out of speakers; no need to put a stereo in cuz you'll never hear it over the sound of the motor. Cars that produce insane amounts of horsepower and deliver insane amounts of torque to the rear wheels. Without nitrous. Yeah. Gimme 1960's GM-style American muscle. Cars that not only look mean but are mean. Big block V8's with lotsa chrome, four barrel carbs, ported heads, thumpety thumping cams, wide open intake manifolds and headers. And I can never have one, for I like having a drivers license...
Gawain 0 #21 March 21, 2009 I've been fortunate to drive many, and ride in even more high-performance cars over the years, one of the most exciting, and most scary rides I drove was a mid-80s Porsche 911 Turbo. I nearly paid for the mistake of letting up too much gas in the turn, fortunately, the owner of the car, riding in the passenger seat yelled, "Punch it NOW!"...that settled the tail and off we went... One of the most refined rides I've enjoyed was in a 2002 BMW M5....mmmmm..... One of my favorite cars I owned, most flickable through the turns, was my Acura Integra GSR. When I used to live in SoCal and jump at Elsinore, I'd take the Ortega Highway through the Santa Ana Mountains...on straights the bikes would always pass me, and I'd almost always catch them in the twisties...One of my friends used to tell me, "Any asshole can go fast."...ain't it the truth... So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! You know, I could afford one.I've owned a convertible Mustang, had a Triumph Spitfire for a daily driver for years. Anyone who owns British cars knows how much mechanic work I had to do to drive it. These days my priorities are different, and my cars have become big appliances, like refrigerators and water heaters, and just a sexy. I have a driveway full of Ford Escorts for me and my teenagers to get around in, and the ubiquitous minivan for group trips and car pooling to the DZ.
