MikeJD 0 #51 November 23, 2010 Quote IMO this generation is not going to have any skydiving flick... At least not in a movie theater. Well, they have Shoot 'Em Up. God help them. People can say what they like about Point Break, Drop Zone, Cutaway, Terminal Velocity et al. At least they filmed real people doing real skydiving! jakee 1,257 #56 November 23, 2010 Quote Quote The achievement of Point Break isn't that it overcame unrealistic skydiving and surfing scenes to be an enjoyable film - it's that it overcame terrible dialogue and non-existant acting to be an enjoyable film! Terrible dialogue?? 99 percent of my exit sayings on base jumps are from that movie. "Are we going to jump or jerk off?" (then jump) "100 percent pure adrenaline!" "little hand says it's time to rock and roll!" (personal fav) Exactly! When was the last time you heard something said on the exit point that wasn't corny as fuck?Do you want to have an ideagasm? It's been a long time since I've seen it, but I thought that there was some real skydiving in it??? Or at least some real parachutes landing??? Can't really remember; mostly I remember the opening scene of Raquel packing her rig.
rehmwa 2 #58 November 23, 2010 Quote>As a warning, though, newer jumpers may jump all over you about this. You'll hear "that movie SUCKED! I mean, yeah, like they really did a four minute freefall. And right, like you can really talk in freefall. I can't believe you liked that crappy thing." I think this is a way for them to demonstrate their superior knowledge of "real" skydiving. nothing is worse than watching a movie skydiving clip with skydivers in the room - they are unable to shut up and just let the movie play ... Occasionally throughout the movie, when he felt it was necessary, his comment "Bullshit!" could be heard by most of the people around us. Really it was just minor things that were changed/inserted to make the movie flow better but it wasn't realistic enough for his liking.

A group of jumpers from my home DZ went to see Drop Zone at the cinema when it came out. I'm glad to say I wasn't among them, cos I heard afterwards that one of them - get this - wore his jumpsuit to the showing, and spent much of the movie telling everyone in earshot that he and his friends were skydivers, and knew what was what.
